  • "Just returned from a fantastic week staying at Westerby lodge."

It had everything we needed and with the obvious benefits of a pub very nearby with great food and drinks. This too has a dog friendly area. As said in most reviews the hosts, Keith and Dawn, make you feel very welcome. The enclosed garden was great for the dog. It was a walking holiday for us and there are some great ones without having to travel too far, one great walk even starts near the school in the village. We certainly hope to visit again.

We were made to feel like locals and were warmly welcomed by not just yourselves but also the rest of the tavern. The food we had on both nights was blooming lovely (especially the fish and chips 10/10) The property was lovely, clean and cosy and very well equipped for everything we needed. The breakfast pack was perfect and very delicious. We would definitely recommend the cottage to others xx

Dawn and Keith (the Landlady and Landlord of the Railway Tavern) are the perfect hosts and could not have been more helpful. The Pub is a real gem and the food is the best sort of hearty fare. There is nothing not to like about this property; it is perfect for a long or short break.

Fab location - perfectly positioned for exploring Lincolnshire, especially the coast. Excellent property with all you need to enjoy a relaxing break. Perfect hosts who are so welcoming, but who also respect you and give you your space. The pub is super - a real traditional-style place, but with such a vibrant atmosphere, you can't help but enjoy yourself. The food is excellent, both in quality and cost, and cooked to perfection. We've already booked to return, and can't wait to go back.

The hosts are super and on hand should you need anything. In a very quiet location on the edge of a small village. There are some nice walks from the doorstep. The food at the Railway Tavern is very good and reasonably priced. The coast is not too far away, also Gunby Hall (NT) is worth a visit. A few miles away is Louth which has a lovely riverside walk and reasonable shopping. A lovely ground floor property and we plan a return visit before too long. Our thanks to Dawn and Keith.

Easy to find and park, beds very comfortable, plenty of equipment, heating worked perfectly, all very clean (and new), good bathroom (wet room). The pub next door was handy. Good beer and very nice, well cooked food. Only thing I didn't like was the garden chairs. Too big and had to have cushions to sit on them - a nuisance to take in and out.

  • "If you are looking for a peaceful location, where the only sounds you may hear are the birds singing, an owl hooting or the odd tractor in a field, then this is the cottage for you."

The photos are an accurate depiction (apart from not showing the lovely outside seating) but they cannot convey the complete tranquillity that you experience here. This cottage and the one next door are owned by Dawn & Keith who run the Railway Tavern, which is a very, very short walk away. There is no need to travel for cooked meals as the ones they serve are varied, delicious and reasonably priced. They go the extra mile to ensure you are happy and are an absolute credit to their profession as well as warm, welcoming hosts. Ideally situated close to the coast, you are never short of places to visit, either for the beach, shopping or sightseeing. If you have an interest in wartime aviation, go and see the Lancaster Bomber and a 'bouncing bomb' at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum at East Kirkby. We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay, but there are so many places and attractions that we didn't manage to see, that we will have to return - and we can't imagine a better location than Westerby Lodge or better hosts than Dawn & Keith.

The cottage is very well presented and spotlessly clean. If you want a very good meal in a friendly atmosphere you can't go wrong eating on site at the Railway Tavern. Keith and Dawn work very hard running the cottages and pub, but are still very approachable and anything you want you only have to ask. The sausage, bacon and eggs they left for our first breakfast was very much appreciated and delicious. We would certainly recommend and stay here again. Denice and Anthony.

The hosts are close by and very helpful and welcoming but entirely unobtrusive. The house is well-appointed and has a superb, fully-enclosed and large garden which was perfect for sitting and enjoying the solitude with a drink and wonderful for our elderly dog to wander safely around. The house is well placed for visiting the East coast resorts like Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe, as well as the lovely town of Alford and the Lincolnshire Wolds in general. We were thrilled to find a lovely 'breakfast pack' waiting for us in the fridge - those Lincolnshire sausages were exceptional - and had everything we needed to have and incredibly relaxed and peaceful holiday (the weather was mostly excellent, too!). We would happily return!

the lodge was a few steps away from the StationTavern and the food was wonderful. Made fresh and suited to your diet needs. The owners are very hospitable making you feel at home. No worries about looking for somewhere to eat after a day out, and no washing up. This made the holiday very relaxing. The photos on Sykes dont do it justice and need updating. The garden has the sun all day and the only thing you hear are the birds and occasional car. no noise from the tavern. Rabbits are fun to watch in the nearby field. It is all fenced in so the dog enjoyed her freedom. The lodge is underfloor heated making it very cosy. The wet room is big and built with plenty of safety rails. Ideal for us. About the location

ALFORD

Mablethorpe 8 miles; Skegness 11 miles; Louth 14 miles; Horncastle 15 miles.

Alford is a charming market town in Lincolnshire. It is set at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is about 11 miles north-west of the coastal resort of Skegness. There is a wide range of shops including a pharmacy, grocers and two butchers as well as a large shop which specialises in doll’s houses and their contents. Alford has become an important centre for arts and crafts with many markets held throughout the year. The main market is held in the Market Place every Tuesday and Friday with the craft market being held every August Bank Holiday as well as Christmas markets being held every year. Alford is known for its Grade I listed working windmill, which is used commercially to produce stone-ground organic flour. Alford Manor House is a central point in the town, with its exhibitions and museum as well as a tea room and open gardens. With Alford being set in the Lincolnshire Wolds, there are plenty of walking and cycling routes to follow or even take a trip to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway or Claythorpe Watermill and Wildfowl Gardens, where you will find plenty of birds and animals, with plenty of space to sit and relax with great views of the old mill. Within 30 mins, you will find the seaside resorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe, with great beaches, making a great playground for children and adults alike. For something different, why not visit the towns of Louth or Horncastle, which both have a good range of shops and pubs as well as regular street and farmers markets?
