  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Dyfi cottage."

The house was as listed, the waterfall was beautiful. House was lovely and warm and has a log burner to use. The only thing I would say is that it is very far away from supermarkets and things to do but it means it's peaceful.

The carpets and soft furnishing very stained and dirty. Also very cluttered. It needs a re decoration and freshen up. Also front door in a bad state Having said that, we enjoyed ourselves and enjoyed the goodies left for us. Waterfall lovely and we saw the trout jumping. Very gloomy. I think the photos are very old.

The cottage was clean, cosy, interesting. The waterfall at the back of the cottage is stunning. Clear instructions are in the cottage as to how everything works and suggestions for places to eat and shop. Definitely cottage is a lovely place to escape the hussell and bussell of everyday life. Sitting out in the back garden watching and listening to the waterfall in the morning and at the end of the day is a very relaxing experience. Thank you.

  • "Sorry for the belated review."

We had a lovely time staying at Dyfi Cottage from 30th August to 6th September. The location of the cottage is very peaceful and tranquil and is centrally located to all the places we wanted to visit. The cottage itself is a truly authentic Welsh "bwthyn". It is cosy and clean although we felt that it would benefit from a little attention to certain areas (eg the flooring in the bathroom). The waterfall at the bottom of the garden is simply amazing and there are lovely hillside walks nearby to suit all ages and fitness levels. Kate is a very good host and promptly responded to a query we had. The welcome pack left for us was very much appreciated. All in all we had a very enjoyable holiday!

  • "What a fabulous stay we just had at Dyfi!"

We all fell in love with that waterfall and watching the water levels rise according to the weather! If you love white noise to sleep to this is the place for you!! We enjoyed the birdwatching too - Dippers and Grey WagTails being the most frequent visitors. A lovely welcome basket on arrival and our dog loved the dog bed infront of the fire. Only criticism would be the light bulbs throughout are a bit too dull particularly in the dining area.

Was pleased to find we could use our Netfix account . Most of all we loved the location. We saw the circular walks you could do from Dinas Mawddwy carpark, but found that some you could do straight from the cottage, which was a bonus. You can also find the walks on the facebook page Llwbrau Mawddwy Paths. Enjoyed taking photos of the falls at the back of the property before & after the rain. Certainly spectacular after a night of rain.

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful area."

The owner provided Christmas decorations and a welcome pack of goodies. The bed was extremely comfortable even though it took up most of the room. Well-equipped kitchen and comfortable living room. However, the cottage needs some maintenance and perhaps a bit of de-cluttering as it was difficult to put things down. The outside food waste bin had not been emptied for a long time and it had food in it which had been infested with maggots. I did enjoy my stay and the surrounding area.

We found the cottage to presented in a lovely homely manner. As some other reviews suggest this property isn’t a show home with the latest everything and brand new sparkling carpets and that’s a good thing ! You can actually breathe and relax especially with a dog. The owner was very responsive friendly and accommodating and the waterfall in the back garden can not be overstated. It’s incredible sitting outside with that as the background. Truly unbelievable Would highly recommend

  • "Dyfi Cottage is set in stunning countryside with lovely walks from the door and close by."

We found the people exceptionally friendly and helpful adding to the charm of the area. The opportunities for long, invigorating days out are plentiful. However part of the pleasure of a demanding day out is to return to your accommodation and relax in comfort. Sadly we were not able to do this in Dyfi Cottage. As you approach Dyfi Cottage the small front garden is very overgrown and the front window frame is rotten and needs replacing. You walk straight into the lounge which is quite dark and the settee and easy chairs did not seem clean. There is Now TV which was a welcome luxury. The kitchen behind the lounge was small but adequate. There were however a lot of flies. When we were preparing our first meal we found a tray of cold, stale chips in the oven which we certainly did not expect. The small dining room behind the kitchen has a washing machine and tumble dryer in it. These are obviously useful but somewhat intrusive and made the room feel cluttered. The carpets up the stairs and on the landing seem very old, tired and rather dirty, with some gaps/tears at the edges on the landing. The cottage does not appear to have been decorated for many years. The corner of the ceiling in the front bedroom was bulging and appeared to be at risk of coming down. The fourposter bed was an amusing touch but in a small bedroom made getting around the room awkward. At times when we moved the pillows and bedding we noticed a faint unpleasant smell. The garden at the rear is also in need of care and attention. The waterfall is beautiful but very loud. However it was still very nice to sit out in. Unfortunately we were not able to feel completely relaxed at Dyfi and despite having some lovely days out we decided to come home a day early.

Perfect base for anyone, half an hour from the coast, lovely friendly pub up the road, plenty of walks and dips in the river. The waterfall at the back of the cottage is stunning. Kate has thought of everything and left some treats for our stay which was a lovely touch. The log burner was set up ready to light, four poster bed is so comfy too!! Everything was clean and tidy and we were even welcomed with a bottle of wine, beer and Welsh cakes! The beds are very comfy and the 2nd bedroom was great for the 3 kids to have a fun sleepover. Yes it's a squeeze, but you sleep so it didn't bother anyone at all. The four poster bed was so comfy!! The waterfall was a lovely background noise, especially to go to sleep to. The WiFi worked perfectly for us but was great to go off radar when we were out. We didn't meet the owner but Kate was very responsive and pleasant to speak to. I read the recent reviews and was a bit nervous but honestly, it was perfect! It's not a show home, but I didn't want that. I wanted a home that I could feel comfortable and safe in, which was exactly what it was. Kate, thank you for letting us stay and for your support whilst there with things to do. We would recommend without a doubt.

  • "The cottage was located in a lovely village with a relaxing waterfall in its garden."

The sitting room was cosy and welcoming with a lovely log fire. The four poster bed in the master room was too big leaving very little space for the person who slept by the window to get past. The carpet on the landing needs replacing as there were bits missing and. The floor covering in the bathroom also needs replacing as it was lifting. The shower over the bath was far to high making it difficult to use. This cottage is not up to the usual standard of cottage that we stay in or that we expect with Skyes and we were not visited by the owner which has happend in previous cottages. We will not be recommending this cottage to family and friends.

It is very well equipped and reasonably comfortable however all rooms are now very badly in need of refurbishment and redecoration and quite gloomy compared to the published photos. The 4-poster bed is really far too large for a room of that size. The dining room is rather like a utility room. The setting is lovely and the waterfall looks magnificent but in full flow is a constant and inescapable background noise. We enjoyed our stay but we wouldn’t go again.

  • "First impressions of the property were not great."

To clarify, the front and rear garden were overgrown with weeds. The front window is in need of repair or replacement as the windowsill is very badly maintained giving the property an unkempt appearance. Other double glazed units within the property need replacing as they are clouded. Having said that we had an enjoyable holiday. The cottage was well equipped with comfortable bedding and towels and plenty of crockery and cooking utensils. It is in a lovely location with beautiful surroundings and it's own waterfall running at the rear. It has a pub and cafe in the village ( within 1 mile ) however if you are self catering the nearest town is some distance away. Their was poor mobile cover in the area but good wifi in the cottage.

The location is great and there are some lovely walks right from the front door. Comfy sitting room (were grateful for the log burner as it was cold during our stay). The bed in the main room was comfy, with nice quality linen and towels, but it was chilly. The other bedroom was much warmer and bigger than you think. Cake and wine on arrival a most welcome touch! We didn't always have hot water from the taps and a few little things could do with being looked at (kick board in kitchen kept falling down, broken knife, one of beds in second room v creaky and fire bricks in log burner). I would love to go back when it is a little warmer.

We booked a 3 night stay and was looking forward to our trip but we decided to leave after 1 night as the cottage was not up to a reasonable standard We had a dreadful nights sleep and cottage needs a complete overall It was in a lovely position and cottage should be in good condition You couldn’t walk round the four poster bed so I had to sleep in other bedroom on single bed but even they were not comfortable Everything needed updating as the oven was not clean and rusty Paintwork and skirtings not cleaned plus cobwebs everywhere I didn’t want to take my shoes off

Firstly I am really sorry that Mr. Wood didn't enjoy his stay, as it is my very intension that everyone who visits Dyfi Cottage, enjoy it as much as I do whenever I am there. I understand that Mr. Wood had an uncomfortable night and couldn't fit around the King size bed. I am aware that I chose to put the four poster in the smallest room, but purely as it was the obvious choice to be the master bedroom, because it looks over the waterfall. So that this problem doesn't arise again, I will be changing the description on the site, so customers are aware of the small space, as it is just a little cottage, and not suitable for some. At least it seems, there were other made up beds that he could chose from. They perhaps aren't high end beds, just from IKEA, but something I will invest in, in the future. I have had previous comments saying the bed was 'lush'. Yes, I agree the cooker needs replacing and I had already chosen a new one, and I've been waiting for a suitable gap to have it installed. And I apologise for a couple of cobwebs, because I was there the previous week, the spiders had been busy before they arrived . It is very hard to get rid of every single spider, as they do like old cottages with stone walls, beams and a pile of logs. And possibly an oversight by me, if I hadn't wiped down all the skirting boards, perhaps as I wasn't expecting them to use all the bedrooms. But I would like to reassure any possible future guests that I am super fussy about clean linen and towels. Etc. There are new duvets and mattress covers. I am trying to make improvements all the time. Obviously last year was difficult because of travel restrictions, so I wasn't able to give it a lick of paint before bookings started. Alot of jobs have to be done in the off season. I would like to replace a couple of windows and a new front door but Rome wasn't built in a day. And it is perfectly cosy and respectable for a 3 tick rating, in my opinion. Property Owner

There are massive cracks in the walls you can hear hear next door talking really clearly in the bedroom. The landing carpet is very very dirty and stained. The place smelt very doggie. The back garden could do with some work. It should state the stairs are very steep. It had every thing you need and it's a gorgeous location. • "We were really disappointed with Dyfi cottage."

So much so that after many many years and successful bookings of holidays via Sykes cottages, I am now very reluctant to use your site again. The cottage was in a rather dilapidated state, the kitchen and bathroom in particular were very poor. There were a number of issues like the bathroom window not being able to be opened, so no ventilation after showers. The shower was awful and the floor in the bathroom felt like it was about to give way under our feet because it had rotted behind the toilet. There was also roughly filled holes in the wall that had been un-finished. The kitchen was very scruffy and really needs replacing! Lots of small things put us off, like cobwebs and dust on furniture / picture frames etc. The door handle was snapped on the back of the master bedroom door. The bed in the master bedroom was so big it barely fitted in the room and was really uncomfortable to sleep on. The living room furniture was very uncomfortable and the used dog bed in there was very off putting. The whole of the downstairs smelt like damp dog and despite us buying air freshner and fabreze to try and get rid of the smell it lingered all week. When we arrived there were about 30 flies in the living room and kitchen and when I contacted the owner she said there was no fly spray or fly swat and there hadn't been any when she left that day, as if we were lying. General cleanliness was poor, there was old food left in the cupboards from previous holiday makers, random items of clothes left in drawers in the bedroom and bits of dog food left on the floor in the corner of the kitchen. As you can tell - we definitely wouldn't stay at the property again unless it was completely renovated. I think it was hugely over priced for the size and quality of the features within it. The only positive thing I could say is the location was nice. Otherwise it was thoroughly disappointing and I'm shocked that Sykes would feature such a property on their site and at such a high price. We paid nearly £1,000 to stay in something that was worse than I would expect from a youth hostel.
