Well equipped and spotlessly clean, it was a pleasure to stay here. Location was superb: not overlooked, great view from the secure garden, peaceful, the only noise being the river. Walking from the door as well as a great place to use as a base for other wilder walks, with The George as a wonderful watering hole and meal provider not so far away.

  • "The property was more than ample in size."

The vendors offered a welcome of a warm home, lights on and gifts of Prosecco and local sea salt crisps. The kitchen was also dressed with flowers and was well equipped with a huge fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, hob and Aga. The lounge was stacked with wood for the log fire which was a delight to enjoy in the cool evenings. There was a guests information folder in there to answer all of our questions. The freeview was easy to use and there were dvd’s available if the guests wished to watch a film. Plus the wifi located in the kitchen was excellent. The sofa and two chairs were very comfortable too. The bedrooms all had lovely clean and plush bedding and were also dressed to a high standard. There was a toilet downstairs and a good bathroom with bath and shower upstairs. Towels were also provided. The gardens were mature and well kept with beautiful views of the trees, local river and surrounding countryside scenery. It was quiet and peaceful at night and during the day. The property is close to all main roads for those wanting to day trip. However, it would be just as comfortable for those who wanted a restful and relaxed holiday. We highly recommend the property and vendors. We would love to stay again. Many thanks

The property itself had everything anyone needs from the small necessity like matches to extra blankets for the beds. The tea cakes and bottle was a lovely gesture thank you. The only criticism, and this is more something we are used to is a king size bed, just felt a bit cramped in bed. Mrs Lloyd came to visit us a few times, even dared to have a drink from Jaspers (our westie) bowl in the kitchen, which was nice to see. Would love to come and stay again if welcome. Thank you to the owners.

This was our fourth visit to this cottage and already booked up for next year as it clearly appears to be in demand. Because it ticks the box in so many ways has started to become an annual event. What is also very good about this property is having a Labrador dog, firstly the garden is fully enclosed but also the owners have a field very close by which is ideal for off lead short exercising be it earlier morning and last walk of the day. The views from the garden are lovely and there are plenty of walks from the doorstep shoud you wish to give the car a miss for a day or two. However, even though you are up in the hills and accessed by a single track road, it's still a reasonable location for exploring the area by car.

The local area is beautiful and the lane from the cottage takes you to the estuary, Barmouth was one way or Dolgellau the other. Just a couple of miles and across the bridge takes you to the lovely pub on the other side with a cycle track . You can sit and enjoy the stunning views or walk along the estuary banks and watch the wildlife. There was a welcome pack which was much appreciated. We saw the hosts a couple of times in the fields which was nice and they are lovely people. It was very rural but we liked that. The garden was lovely and really handy for the dog. The kitchen was lovely and we used the Aga which was great we sat in the living room with the fire and didn’t actually use any of the main house other than upstairs. We had a lovely stay the only negatives are the roof in the kitchen leaked so we had to sort that, the weather was terrible so can only think the wind made a slate come loose, and the cottage was ‘clean’ for a cottage but just a little less than we are used to, but even with that I would say we had the best time and we would go again

A car is a must, steep one track road to the cottage, the directions were good and it was easily found. The cottage is about 20 minutes away from Barmouth and Dolgellau. The lakes at Creggan were absolutely breath taking and the beach at Fairbourne was beautiful. We walked right along the beach. Barmouth was a good place to spend a few hours, we enjoyed walking along the bridge; the views were worth the walk, just be careful of the bikes! The cottage was a little tired in places with peeling wall paper and was badly finished in places. Bit disappointed with not being able to gain access until 5 o'clock and then having ro vacate at 9am - other cottages have been earlier access and later to vacate . Some great walks around the property. Views were amazing. Property was well equipped as well. Mrs Lloyd is very friendly if treats are in abundance. My suggestions for minor improvement would be the taps and toilet seats require attention, both lose fitting. No upstairs smoke alarm fitted but base was fitted to the ceiling. My only other suggestion would be a information pack like bin day, recycling info, emergency contact details/A&E/Vets etc and recommendations for food etc. On the whole it was a fabulous farmhouse and location is brilliant as long as you don't mind the drive up a single track road, but there are passing places. After a winding drive up a steep, narrow lane (with plenty of passing places) the cottage is charming. Plenty of parking space, a lovely garden and well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen with Aga (we did not cook on it but it was useful for drying damp clothes and boots). Delighted to find a welcome pack including flowers, cream tea, milk and treats/ball for the dog. The beds were comfy and no light pollution and the only sounds being the river/sheep baaing made for peaceful nights. Wifi is a bit patchy but what do you expect given the remote location! No phone signal (and no phone in red call box) but we discovered Web Calling. Astounded to find an Amazon delivery was in the American style mailbox at the gate within 8 hours of ordering! We found lots to do locally and great places to eat. Barmouth has charm (as well as chippies, icecreams and amusements). Davy Jones Locker and The Lobster Pot on the harbour do great breakfasts. The Celtic Cabin on Barmouth Promenade has a limited but tasty menu of tostadas and flatbreads in Mexican style. Cheapest parking in Barmouth is on Jubilee Rd (£1.10 per hour) or free in side streets at far end of town. Mawddach Pizza (open Thurs/Fri/Sat at present) has amazing views and good food. The Cross Foxes does a superb Sunday lunch. Norbar (a short drive towards Harlech) has amazing views over the sea and Snowdonia - essential to book ahead as very popular. Min y Mor does acceptable basic pub grub. Co-op in Barmouth and Dolgellau are nearest supermarkets. Steakhouse and Cosy Chippy in Dolgellau both a bit disappointing. Everywhere we ate was dog-friendly as were all the activites we visited including Harlech Castle, spectacular and wonderful Victoria Sponge, Fairbourne Railway - very cute, kayaking/swimming at Bala Lake - amazing, and Welsh Highland Railway, Porthmadog - superb (very impressive 'in seat hampers' for £9 each). Fforest Coaster was exhilarating fun and their cafe excellent. Dog walks included: following the path down from cottage alongside river, past goldmine to bridge (and back up across farmland emerging downhill to the bridge); climbing the hill in front of the cottage by taking the path left a short way down the hill next to a cottage, left track and then off piste beyond; walk and swim at the far end of Barmouth beach (dog restrictions at near end) and a circular walk from Ganllwyd up to Black Waterfalls. When the sun came out it was superb but take a waterproof wherever you go - this is Wales.

  • "A wonderful week at a comfortable pet friendly cottage situated in some of the most stunning scenery that you could wish to find anywhere in the world, with plenty of beautiful walks right from the door."

Well equipped and scrupulously clean with a lovely kitchen in particular and a beautifully sunny back garden with outstanding views across the Mawddach and Cadair Idris. Smart and comfortable bedrooms with the soothing sound of the river to lull you to sleep. The garden is private but I wouldn't call it fully secure if you had an escapee hound. Ours is not interested in escape but cat lovers and dog owners alike should also be aware that a friendly cat (Mrs Lloyd) is locally resident and will greet your arrival and do a fair bit of hopeful lurking on windowsills. If you haven't a dog with you, I imagine she'd quite happily join you by the Aga if you wanted her to. The house, a former chapel with fascinating history, has super-thick walls and would be beautifully cool in summer. There's a woodburner in the sitting room for chilly evenings although it can be a little reluctant to draw well on occasions - we found it helpful to check the stove instructions online as the particular type of stove runs a little differently than the one we're used to. As the area is mountainous and mercifully free of mobile masts, there's no mobile signal at the property to speak of - but there's good wifi to connect to instead. If you wanted to choose any place to have a digital detox though, this would be a good one. When you take a break from the hills, mountains, beach, estuary and lakes there are good eating places locally although many were just reopening for the 2021 season when we were there. Enjoyed pizza with views at the Mawddach Pizza and you have to visit T. H. Roberts in Dolgellau - Dolgellau is a lovely town anyway but T. H. Roberts is an institution and the food and the building are fabulous (the sausage in a bap is highly recommended). Don't forget to look up a the ceiling lights in this remarkable former pharmacy while you are there. A big thank you to the owners for a truly restorative week's holiday.

Dolgellau is home to over 200 listed buildings, allegedly the highest concentration in the whole of Wales, and the town is also a designated 'cycle break centre' boasting a range of dedicated cycle routes all around the area. Close by is the Coed y Brenin mountain bike trail and this location is ideal for quiet outdoor recreation with superb scenery, mountains, forests, waterfalls, castles and beaches all close to hand.
