Cannot fault the information provided, exceptional guidance about facilities, where to go etc. such a beautiful setting. Would certainly recommend as a place to stay when visiting the area.

Hi Pat Thanks for such lovely feedback, it was great having you in the Bwthyn. I’m so pleased you had a good stay and I really hope to see you all again. A big thank you for leaving the cottage so beautifully clean and tidy. I’m pleased there was a good outcome to the fickleness of sheep! Best wishes, Sue Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay, although it wasn’t mentioned that the location was in the middle of a graveyard!"

Road to and from extremely narrow Lots of cobwebs everywhere, there are actually feather dusters for these in a cupboard!!!

Hi Ann Thank you for your prompt feedback, I’m pleased you enjoyed your short stay in the Bwthyn. Most guests love the tranquility and beautiful location of the cottage and its history as a chapel, which we make clear in the description and photographs, I’m sorry you missed this. Indeed, this adds to our positive feedback and high scores. Our high cleanliness standards have been commented on positively by previous guests, and I’ll certainly make sure we remove any stray cobwebs we may have missed. I’m sorry you felt it appropriate to give such a low overall score to the cottage, unlike all my other guests this year to date. Best wishes, Sue Property Owner

Susan the owner was so lovely and the welcome basket went down a treat. The cottage was just perfect. My disabled mother really benefited from the down stairs very large double bedroom and the e-suite wet room was beyond ideal. Y Bwthyn cottage was spotless and we wanted for nothing. There was everything that you could possible want. It was cosy but so roomy at the same time. The 2 upstairs bedrooms were also extremely spacious and the bathroom too. Susan was so friendly without being invasive. She was very informative about the history of Y Bwthyn. I honestly can't think of a single this that was not perfect. We may have only had a couple of days there but I would truly love to go again. I cannot recomend Y Bwthyn highly enough. Thank you Susan

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished it could have been longer. If the opportunity should arise it would be our number 1 choice of venue for the area.

Sue the owner is friendly and approachable. The cottage is set surrounded by the most stunning views- we sat outside with a blanket and pot of tea both nights just soaking in the sights and listening to nothing but the wildlife. The cottage has been well thought out, with sky light windows to look out at the views from inside. The cottage iss spacious, clean, well equipped and the photos don't do it justice. Thank you again sue! We will definitely be back.

The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped with excellent standard of finish and facilities. The owner lives nearby and is very helpful and there is secure indoor storage available for a 2/3 bikes. If you want an escape which is nonetheless close to Cadair Idris and the seaside resort of Tywyn this is ideal. There are plenty of options for outdoor activities nearby. Whilst the access road is narrow and steep this limits passing traffic to local residents and there is adequate parking for three full size cars on the flat outside the cottage. We had a great stay and will return.

Hi Ian I’m so pleased you had a good time and made the most of our lovely location! The property was exactly as described, and clean. It was perfect for our group weekend away to climb Snowdon, which was approx. an hour and 25mins away. There isn't much nearby that is within walking distance so if you need anything from a meal out, takeaway, shop etc you will need to drive - but this wasn't an issue for us. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend!

The cottage was immaculate, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed and more after jam packed days of adventure. Was a little surprised to find the backyard was a graveyard, which wouldnt have been appropriate for our BBQ. It unsettled one of us for the first night and it's worth noting if you aren't comfortable with this sort of thing. We took our dog with us and even though we didn't use the blankets/bedding provided it was lovely to have the option. Sue left a welcome hamper which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. The location was beautiful and quiet, and felt safe, even when walking the dog around midnight. It is a child friendly property and our girls are already asking when we can return.

Hi Liz Thanks so much for your feedback and I’m so pleased you had such a good time with everything the area has to offer. Y Bwthyn is a converted chapel, and the old chapel’s cemetery is privately owned. However, if guests wish to explore the cemetery with its fascinating history, or use its grassy area behind the cottage for quiet pursuits, the Trustees have very kindly allowed this. It’s seen painting, yoga and just quiet sitting and relaxing over the years! It adds to Bwthyn’s own sunny enclosed terrace and the grassy open front garden. I’m glad you and your lovely dog have taken away some happy memories of your stay in Y Bwthyn and we’d love to see you all here again! Best wishes, Sue Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage in fabulous location."

Gorgeous house pretty and clean and well kitted out. Sat nav and phones didn’t work at all maybe due to the weather. You need an ordnance survey map handy at ALL times. Needs a better explanation on the description for dogs. NO back garden, nowhere to walk dogs at the house (too many sheep, steep road) or let them outside for doggy business! Very dark at night and needed a torch to take dogs for toilet. Also it would have been even lovelier if the house had a log fire to come back to!!! But even after all this I would still recommend it to others! Ps Far too many jobs to do at the end of the stay like cleaning, washing, stripping beds. Also very sad not to get in until 4 and have to leave by 9.30. Seems a bit unjust!!!

Hi Fiona, I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and would recommend Y Bwthyn to others. The cottage’s beautiful rural surroundings, not far from Tywyn beach, means many pet owners book for that reason, often saying what lovely walks there are around Y Bwthyn for their dogs. They have all been happy to keep their pets on a lead in the lanes and the grassed front garden. Snowdonia is a sheep farming area, which is why we make it clear to guests before they book that dogs should be on a lead when outside the boundaries of the cottage & patio. We provide details of lovely areas nearby where dogs can safely run off the lead. There are glorious starry skies here due to low light pollution, and we provide good outside lighting and torches for guest use. The WiFi network in Y Bwthyn allows guests to set up a local communications ‘hub’ for, e.g. WiFi calling, WhatsApp and setting up SatNavs, mitigating poor mobile reception in our little valley. We visit it often in our memories. It's a very beautiful, well presented Chapel house with spectacular views of the hillside. We were made to feel especially welcome with a lovely hamper of delicious treats. The milk in the fridge was joy to behold as we had not managed to purchase any on route and we were all ready for a cup of tea when we arrived!! The interior is well thought out and cosy. It was lovely to have both a bathroom and walk in shower. There is attention to detail with plug in nightlights to help navigate the property at night and a discreet stair gate to safeguard younger visitors. Y Bwthyn is situated in a very quite area with an abundance of wildlife. We enjoyed many a morning and evening watching the nesting Martins and pipistrelle bats flying around. The three free range sheep who would walk past the Chapel on an evening, pause to stare at us before munching on the hedgerow, made us smile as we sat out enjoying a nightcap in the property's front garden. The Velux windows in the property allowed the light and breath taking views to stream in, adding to the serenity and beauty of the property. There are lots of lovely walks in the vicinity, such as bird rock and an iron age fort, Castlle Y Bere and large lake for wild water swimming. Aberdovey, Tywn, Barmouth and Dolgoch falls are all well worth a visit. It was lovely having Sue, who owned the property, so close by, and we did enjoy our chats and seeing her amazing photographs of animals, birds and landscapes. Thank you very much for having us. • "A gorgeous, comfortable cottage, excellently equipped with all mod cons in a tranquil, beautiful, rural location; my idea of heaven."

There was a Welcome Hamper on the table and Sue, the hostess, was most welcoming, very friendly and helpful with a a wealth of knowledge on wildlife and the area; there is so much more I could add. So I'm very happy to recommend Y Bwythyn for those who love life at the pace nature intended and I will be going back.

The only suggestion I can make is that there is a shower put in over the bath in the upstairs bathroom. Most people shower, and we were queueing up for the ensuite one downstairs.

  • "The owner of this cottage is the most lovely, friendly person you could wish to meet."

We had an email before we arrived letting us know what we could find in the local area and even looked into where locally served Gluten free food for me. On arrival, we met the owner, found the key easily and discovered a thoughtful hamper containing everything you need to get the holiday started and some beautiful postcards of photos taken by the owner of the local area. The cottage itself is clean perfectly equipped with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay, we even made a birthday cake. The location of the cottage is very quiet but is ideally located for walking, the beach and the Talyllyn Railway. We had a fantastic two week holiday!!

  • "A lovely cottage and host."

We received above and beyond in terms of extras, a welcome hamper which was delightful, but also ample other bits and bobs such as toilet rolls, dustbin bags, dishwasher tablets and so on. Cottage was beautifully clean and well furnished. Wet room was fab for my parents along with the downstairs bedroom. Location is extremely peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed playing the board games that were provided, a proper family break. Upstairs could do with an additional shower over the bath, purely to ease congestion in the mornings in the downstairs shower room, but not a huge problem. Wifi was good. We thoroughly enjoyed our home from home.

The property

This historic converted chapel, lying in the small hamlet of Abertrinant, near Bryncrug, has stunning hill views and is a haven of quiet and peace.

It is only a 15 minute drive to the beach and less than 10 minutes to the nearest pub and restaurant. With step-free access from the off-road parking to the downstairs bedroom and en-suite shower room, Y Bwthyn is wheelchair accessible and perfect for families or friends, with a luxurious home away from home feel. The lovingly restored hallway leads to an open-plan living area with dining for seven people, featuring a quirky window above the layout and a charm-filled, well-equipped kitchen.

Sit back and relax in the warm cosy lounge area with its sumptuous sofas and wood burning-effect electric stove. Three bedrooms each boast their own unique personality; the first, an easily accessible bedroom, is located on the ground floor, complimented by a large en-suite wet room.

At the top of the stairs is a window and skylight nook with original beams, creating your own little haven to read a book or watch the abundant wildlife.

Two further bedrooms are located on the first floor, a beautiful double with a lounge area, and a spacious, light and airy family suite with 3 single beds, which can be arranged by request as a king-size and a single.

The upstairs bathroom features historic timber beams from the original chapel, and its large airy skylights and solid oak floor makes it perfect to relax in the bath beneath the sky.

While these luxurious timber features means there is no upstairs shower, the downstairs wet room offers the cottage's spacious shower facilities.

Appreciate the stunning views from the enclosed front terrace, where you can dine outside as you listen to birdsong.

An open grassed area opposite the cottage offers a space for games.

Why not find out more about the fascinating history of Abertrinant by exploring the old chapels cemetery.

The Trustees are happy for guests to look around and also to use the grassy area behind the cottage for quiet sitting, yoga or simply drinking in the view.

The area boasts some of the finest beaches in Britain, with miles of golden sand-dune-backed shoreline running from Aberdovey north to Tywyn, with its promenade, leisure centre, independent cinema, restaurants, cafes and steam railway.

The beaches are perfect for holidaymakers, swimmers and surfers as well as water sports enthusiasts in the local estuaries.

Bounded by the Dyfi, Dysynni and Mawddach valleys, the peaks of Cader Idris and the Aran Fawddwy ranges are within easy reach, with Coed y Brenin forest nearby. A precious cottage in a southern part of Snowdonia.
