  • "Aving stayed at a number of similarly advertised huts & lodges within the same price bracket, we were severely disappointed with Hawthorn Hut!"

Arriving late, we had made arrangements with the owner to let ourselves in rather than disturbing them. However, we did expect at some point of our 4 night stay, to have at least a welcome from the owner. The promised facilities in this ‘luxury’ accommodation (as described on the business card in the hut) were sadly very lacking! The only table available was part of the outside furniture which was rotting and wet. The chairs to this set weren’t fit to sit on either! The ‘walk in’ shower room was a ‘climb over the toilet’ to get in the shower cubicle room! The cubicle had a shower curtain that didn’t fit, meaning the floor became wet & dangerous after a shower. There was no choice but to come into the living space to dry as space in the ‘bathroom’ was extremely limited! There was no door to the bathroom, just a curtain which meant, after showering, the living space soon became damp and some of the wood floor tiles were loose and dangerous! When sitting on the toilet, your feet/knees were in the living space. Quite bizarre! The sink in the ‘bathroom’ was on top of the toilet cistern, which meant leaning over the loo to do any ablutions & having no shelving, meant having to go to and from the living space. The kitchenette was also sadly lacking & very worn! The sink was so tiny you could only fit a mug in to wash it. Plates/pans etc could not be properly washed without water getting everywhere, hence why the area surrounding the sink is damp & coming away from the surface! The draining rack had to sit on the work top, which then leaked through the poorly fitted sink & down the ‘taped together’ waste pipes! The kitchen utensils were not fit-for-purpose either, given the non stick pans. The living/sleeping space was also far from luxurious. The chairs in the advertised photos have been replaced with old, worn-out, loosely covered chairs! The bedding was old, tired & thread-pulled in places! The main door to the outside had a large gap down one side. There were tissues stuffed to fill some holes…..and even a used tea-bag!!!! Outside the property, the advertised wood-fired hot tub had been replaced by an electric spa pool which was old & shabby looking & continuously turned on at regular intervals throughout the day & night, keeping us awake! The wood-fired hot tub was one of the main reasons we chose this hut! (This was in fact discarded in the grounds!!) The enclosed private garden was neither enclosed nor private & was more of a farm scrub-land area than any sort of garden. The ‘welcome pack’ consisted of 1 drink of ale for my husband, some welsh cakes & some out of date coffee sachets!! The living area was tiny, with hardly any ‘spare’ floor space, so bags, cases etc had to stay in the car. There wasn’t anywhere to hang even 1 item of clothing, or even your wet coat - had it been raining! The photos & description of this accommodation are very misleading & nothing like the reality.

  • "Absolutely lovely hut, amazing hot tub and very generous with providing more than enough wood for the hot tub and the fire inside (not that we needed to use it) it was great to be able to park right next to the hut as well, which made for easy loading and unloading."

The owner was very kind by helping one of our colleagues decorate the hut for us with gifts as we were on our honeymoon. The owner came to say hello and check we were okay which was so very nice of her. Lovely views and a beautiful sunset of an evening, which was enjoyed in the hot tub! The only downfall we can think of is the road right next to the hut was a bit noisy at times and we struggled to sleep on the first night but was easy to get around with some background noise. All in all we would 100% stay again and loved our adventure!

  • "The surroundings are absolutely beautiful and the hut its self is very nice, small but everything you need."

We was very disappointed that we weren't able to use the hot tub unless we brought a very large amount of wood. This property was booked based of the hot tub ,we tried to get it but it was virtually impossible without chopping down a forest. This information should be stated.

  • "Everything was as expected and lovely."

Only issue was heating up the hot tub was almost impossible in the snow. Temp was -5 though. Didn’t ruin the Holliday and I’d definitely recommend a summer stay. Cheers!

The cabin was cozy but had all the essentials for a short stay. Not to far from ships and some lovely cafes and bars.

  • "My husband, dog and I had a great time staying here."

It was difficult to find the place, but once calling our host, we got there. The cabin was clean and very snug, but equiped with all that we needed for a short, 2 night stay. The woodfire in the cabin was great,. Unfortunately, the hot tub wasn't working, however we were told about this the day before, and received the option of a partial refund, or for someone to look for another property for us. We have a small dog, so it was a fine size cabin for us, but I think with a larger dog we would have struggleled. The bathroom is very small, and with my husband being over 6ft tall, he struggeled to close the door while sitting on the toilet. The bed was bigger than we are used to, so we managed to squeeze the dog onto it, which was good, as there wasn't much space to put his crate or bed in the cabin. The area nearby is lovely and very scenic, and full of sheep. There is a lovely tea room in the village, however, they were not quite sticking to their opening times, but we managed to get some lovely breakfast there once. We managed to do some lovely walking and sight seeing, and found a few great places to eat within 30 minute drive. Overall, we had a great time, and will be back to Wales.

  • "The Hut was a really good experience."

It was as expected. The host was lovely when we met and very informative about the area and places to visit. We were fortunate with the weather and that allowed us to make the best use of the decking and Hot Tub (large supply of Wood was provided) We took our Cocker Spaniel with us and the area around the Hut was a very safe and secure area for a dog. The only little criticism would be: 1. Although the Shower area was good, the positioning of the Toilet and size of Cubicle, could be very awkward for certain sized people. 2. The Comfy Chairs (as seen in the advertised Photos) had been replaced by more of a Dining Chair style. These weren't the most comfortable to sit and relax on. One final area of Feedback and this is a general point, nothing to do with the Holiday Hut. But for Dog Owners that may book, The Local Pub (that is advertised heavily in Holiday Info) did not allow Dogs.

  • "As much as we enjoyed our stay, which was really because the weather was good."

We actually stay outside the whole 2days we were there. Inside was very small, with a tiny sink in kitchen, toilet was very uncomfortable due to lack of space around it. Shower was tiny with old shower curtain and a shower screen, far too much going on in tiny space. No cooker, limited TV, very poor signal. Not sure if water in tub is cleaned? But too be honest it was a glamping experience more than a cottage break, so bear that in mind. We had a fantastic time and so did our German Sheperd Troy. Just being honest so you know where to improve the standards of your beautiful holiday let.
