  • "This property was in a great location for us to explore the surrounding coast and mountains."

With 2 staircases leading to separate bedroom areas and plenty of seating downstairs, there was plenty of space for us to spread out. The house was tidy, beds were comfortable and the kitchen was reasonably equipped. The heating worked well for us in September. As per photos and previous reviews, some of the house is a bit tired and it wasn't sparkly clean (skirting boards were grubby, some well-established cobwebs, kitchen fridge door a bit loose, few chipped mugs, etc). Sofas are very comfy, but required cushions to be pushed back on daily. Stairgates are provided, but the wider one that we used was only just wide enough to be used at the top of the chapel stairs - I wouldn't trust it to hold against our toddler unsupervised. In all, it fulfilled our needs for the week quite well and for the price we were fairly happy, but isn't a luxury property and a bit more throughout cleaning wouldn't go amiss.

  • "We booked a stay at this property despite the poor reviews it had already had as we were giving it the benefit of the doubt."

BIG mistake: the cottage smells damp and has mould in many places, mice were present downstairs, there were cobwebs, broken widow latches, to name but a few issues we had. The kitchen is old and in need of an upgrade- no extractor fan light, only three out of four hob controls working. WIFI was down during our stay. Our issues were not resolved despite having contacted the owner, half of our party had to leave due to the lack of WiFi and being unable to work remotely during the weekdays, and this was not compensated by the owner who was aware of the WiFi issue and chose to dismiss our claim. The rest of us left a day early. Needless to say, we would not recommend.

  • "This is a lovely property in a great location and we would return BUT we found it dirty and in need of some attention."

The property smelt generally musty. There was dust, cobwebs and dirt throughout. Tables were marked and sticky. Duvet covers had buttons missing, mould was evident in various places, there were light bulbs out (we replaced a few from the kitchen drawer), ill fitting doors, a missing lamp shade, no pillow protectors used at all. Spare pillows provided without pillow cases. Light pull cords were black and disgusting. There were cigarette butts outside the back door. One velux window appears to have a piece of snooker cue attached by a jubilee clip hanging from it by way of an opener. One ceiling rose was hanging off. One of the living room curtains was hanging off the rail. Things future guests need to know! There were no non-slip areas or mats in any of the baths or showers and the tiled floors were very slippery when wet too so take your own non-slip mats. The towels supplied were too small and suitable only for children. We used our beach towels for showering. The bottom bunk in the family room was very close to the top one and our tiny 4 year old struggled to sit up without banging her head so may not be suitable for older children. The garden picnic table seated 6 adults at best and was tired, wonky and listed dreadfully when anyone stood up. We used our own chairs and the children sat on picnic blankets to allow us all to sit together to eat outside. The heating can’t be turned off only down and coupled with the thick quilts it was too hot for august and made sleeping difficult even with all the windows open. There is only 1 wardrobe in the property for 10 people. Two bedrooms have makeshift hanging rails which aren’t really fit for purpose and one had nothing. There were no bin bags supplied and you’ll need to take the large swing bin size. The info in the folder regarding rubbish collection is wrong. Both bins were emptied on Monday not one Monday and one Thursday. The wifi is patchy at best with 10 people in the house and doesn’t seem to reach upstairs. Despite all of the negatives this house is a great holiday home, there’s virtually no passing traffic, the location is wonderful and the garden is gorgeous. The indoor furniture, mattresses and carpets were nice quality and it was lovely to get all 10 of us round one table! The three large sofas provide comfortable seating for everyone. There’s a great washer-dryer and a good size dishwasher. Two fridges are a great idea. There’s evidence of some recent decoration so we presumed that it is a work in progress and the real issue lies with a poor cleaning and maintenance service and before being asked, the reason we didn’t contact the owners during our stay is that we didn’t want to waste precious family time dealing with this or face a confrontation. We simply cleaned and tidied what we could and lived with the rest. We would all stay again and hopefully most of the issues would have been resolved. This isn’t the first review highlighting problems with cleanliness but I really hope it’s the last. We paid a lot of money and this was a very important milestone holiday for our family and it was a shame the same issues from a review in aug 2022 are ongoing.

Thank you Dawn for your feedback. Great to hear you would come back again despite some of the comments raised. We do supply our contact details to all guests pre arrival and would have welcomed a call from you during your stay as we could have resolved the majority of these issues during your stay, to make it more comfortable. For future guests reading this feedback, I would like the opportunity to comment on our setup: - We provide a hand towel and bath towel per guest. Standard size towels. We don't provide bath sheets. - Duvets are 12 tog rated for all seasons. We won't change them to a lower tog in the summer months as the weather in Wales can be changeable. - We provide mattress protectors and additional pillow cases can be found in the airing cupboard for extra pillow protection if desired. - Heating is set to a comfortable 19oC. The heating is programmed to only come on if the temperature falls below this level. Heating can be manually adjusted to suit, and every radiator in every room have a thermostat control. Alternatively, I could have adjusted the programme remotely. - The picnic bench seats up to 8 people and with second bench provides additional outdoor seating for a further 3/4 people. We have plenty of room for a group up to 10 guests and the picnic benches have been checked and stabilised. I am also planning on replacing the picnic benches ready for Easter 2024. - The "snooker" cue bracket in the Chapel bathroom allows guests to open the window easily, to allow for extra ventilation when necessary. Without this bracket some guests would find it hard to release the window. The ceiling rose has also been repaired - We have a triple wardrobe in the family room. Unfortunately, due to the sloping ceilings in many of the bedrooms, it's impossible to have a full-sized wardrobe. We provide "contemporary" style rails with additional coat hangers instead, should guests require them. This is visible in the pictures. The cottage is thoroughly cleaned between guests, with a deep clean arranged every 6 weeks. This doesn't stop spiders from reappearing, especially as we are located next to a wood, but it helps. Hopefully this covers the majority of comments mentioned, and we look forward to welcoming you back again. Kind regards, Gary. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in desperate need of a deep clean and some much needed TLC and updating."

So disappointed to be writing this but here are some of the issues...... Cobwebs, thick dust, mould (especially in upstairs bathroom) dishwasher dirty, the radiator beside the kitchen bin covered in food and dirt, wiped the dining room table down and the cloth was black, sofas need replacing as so uncomfortable and broken we had to use some wood to prop the middle sections up, garden furniture not adequate, mattress on one of the beds in the family room needs replacing, not sure the last time the windows were cleaned, the list could easily go on but think I have covered the major issues and don’t want to come across as being picky!! When we arrived we went straight out to buy cleaning products. We were very fortunate to have amazing weather so luckily we did not have to spend a lot of time at cottage. No excuse really for the cottage not to be spotless.

Hi there, thank you for you feedback, we do wished you would have contacted us during your booking as we would have happily re-attended to help rectify any issues. We now have new furniture and have also replaced some mattresses. We had a previous issue where a child was jumping on the sofa and caused some damage, we have now reinforced the sofas as they are quite expensive for us to replace. The bathroom has also been checked and rectified. We thank you for highlighting these issues to us, we have now discussed these with our housekeeping team. Our garden has a picnic bench for 8 and also an additional bench, we hope this is sufficient as our property does only hold 10 guests. We hope you visit us again so you can see what improvements we've made. Kind regards. Property Owner

  • "The bins were left outside not in the bins provided therefore were strewn around by the wildlife."

Not such a welcoming site. We did clean them up into the bins for council collection on the Monday morning. The beds were comfy although it was questioned by some in the party if they had been clean on. The oven certainly could have been cleaned before we arrived. As could the clothing found behind the couch in the lounge. The number of glasses which had been put away with a crack in them was shocking I took out 4 and put them aside. There was the benefit of many more There was an abundance of utensils. Which was very useful. A reminder to bring some tinfoil would be good. The dishwasher was good to go after we cleaned the filter and filled the salt. Something I didn't expect to have to do. The use of the two fridges for such a large party was very useful. The cottage was very well laid out.

Thank you for your comments, We're sorry if the wildlife got into bins and thank you so much for your help. The beds do have mattress protectors and am glad you found the beds comfy, mattresses have also been replaced since your stay as part of an upgrade for guest comfort. Glasses and Crockery were also replaced, the oven has been attended to and I'm glad you found all the kitchen utensils and two fridges handy, I would have had the oven and dishwasher checked and resolved straightaway for you if I had known at the time. • "The cottage was lovely and homely."

Bit disappointed to learn that one of the bathrooms was out of bounds the day before we were due to arrive but didn't hinder our trip. Location was ideal. Overall we were really happy with the accomodation and had a lovely time. Would definitely consider returning. Gary (the home owner) was lovely and extremely helpful when we locked ourselves out! Apparently we were not the first haha.

I'm so sorry about the bathroom, unfortunately I had to close it due to flood damage into the bathroom ceiling which was outside my control at the time. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the rest of the property and that you loved the location. Glad I could sort you getting you back in, these things happen and I was happy to help. I do hope you visit again and can enjoy all the bathrooms. Regards Property Owner

  • "Generally very pleased with accommodation at Is Y Deri, but felt that there was room for improvement in cleanliness in some areas, e."

    G. floors, especially downstairs. Bathrooms however were very clean. Fridge space is rather limited for a cottage for up to 10 people. That said, we had a great week and would be happy to book again if visiting the area.

I'm glad you liked the property, I would have had any housekeeping concern about a floor addressed immediately if I had known at the time of your stay, I'm always happy to help if I am made aware during a stay of any issue. Thank you for acknowledging how clean the bathrooms were, I will pass all your feedback to the housekeeping team. I'm happy to report that the property now has an undercounter fridge and also a family size 50/50 fridge freezer and I hope yo do visit again. Property Owner
