  • "Amazing cottage!"

Lovely views for miles, fantastic room's brilliant massive garden. Easy access into town. It’s a little hard to find but once you’ve found it perfect. The only thing slightly off was the beds could do with a repair other than that you can’t fault the place it was brilliant loved every second!

  • "Beautiful property but the beds ruined the experience, so much I have to go to the doctor as I can’t move my right arm."

Bin in the kitchen under counter was still full and smelly when we arrived, with plasters all over the main bedroom bathroom mirror and dangerous broken stairs.

I am so pleased you thought the property beautiful, I was sorry to read that you didn't sleep well as the mattresses in the property were renewed in May this year. I am surprised and disappointed at your concerns over the bin and the mirror as I was at the property the day you arrived and even before our housekeeping service came was not aware of those issues. I also didn't notice anything untoward with the stairs, but I will ask the housekeeper to double check following your comment. Property Owner

Couldn't really figure out the cooker. The house was well maintained, very nice bathrooms and a very well fenced garden which was also well maintained, we enjoyed our stay, and would love to return.

  • "Was a lovely place to stay."

Felt homely and comfortable. Was able to relax. The only thing we felt could have been added was a few camping chairs that we could easily move round the garden for sitting. Eg we would love to have sat at the end of the garden looking over the fields with a glass of wine. Apart from that, fantastic place and thanks for the effort to make it a great holiday. Will recommend.

Thank you, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We like the idea of the camping chairs. Property Owner

The ever changing weather just added to the experience. Nothing bad to say about the place , in fact we are already looking to book again .

  • "We loved our stay here."

The cottage is warm cosy and full of character. The showers were hot and we slept well. The sun room is a great space for children to play. The garden is lovely and you get a great view of the stars on a clear night. Also well located if you want to do a bit of plane spotting at the mach loop. The location is great with lots of walks nearby. There were goodies in a basket for us on arrival which was much appreciated. Our son has been learning piano for a year but this was the first time we heard him play on a real one. We wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Thank you, we're glad you had a good stay. Property Owner

  • "As you walk into the property you are met with light switches that appear to do nothing."

On eventually finding a light switch that works (on the other side of the room) there are two switches and maybe half a dozen bulbs out of over a dozen that actually work. Other switches covered with electrical tape. This makes it look dangerous and poorly kept. On trying to cook a Christmas dinner we found that one side of the oven appeared not to work. Someone related to the property arrived (to check other parts of the house) and offered a possible solution. This did not fix the problem. The oven had also not been cleaned for some time with bits of old burnt food still in it, and the glass doors thick with dirt and grease. The gas hob also didn’t fully work with 2 out of the 6 rings not lighting. The cupboards in the kitchen were extensive but lacking in basics, such as full sets of mugs and glasses. The property listing states that it can sleep 6, but doesn’t provide sets of 6 mugs or glasses of the same type. On walking through the property there were cobwebs everywhere and most window frames were covered with furry mould (this has clearly built up over months) The ‘sun room’ roof and door leaked resulting in pools of water on the floor when the typical Welsh weather hit. Along with the large fireplace in the sitting room which also had significant leaks, resulting in pooling water. The beds upstairs were cheap hard mattresses which were uncomfortable to sleep on. After a few days we cut our stay short by two nights as we couldn’t bare another night in the beds. There was an extensive list about keeping the property clean and charges for this not being done. It wasn’t clean to start with! We stayed when there was heavy rain, we couldn’t clean the kitchen floor after the dogs as there were no mop / floor cleaning products provided. A lot of cupboards were full of old bags and broken broom heads along with other random / dumped items. The property is also linked (the main door and porch rooms) to the ‘office’ for the campsite which is at the location. We stayed when this was not in use but I would feel would be very intrusive when the campsite is active. With people coming and going. The overall feel of the property is that it could be an amazing property but is severely lacking in maintenance and a decent cleaner. We felt ripped off for the money we payed and was disappointing for a Christmas holiday.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback following your recent stay at the property. We do feel a little disappointed with this review given the more positive hand written note that you left at the property during your stay. Please be assured as a property owner that all such matters relating to property compliance and safety are in order and current and the simple explanation for the tape on the switch is to serve to prevent guests leaving the exterior lights to the property turned on, this has now been removed and a notification put in place. We are saddened that you did not use our 24 hours service to contact a member of our friendly team to assist you with any issues at the time of our stay, this information is provided to all guests within the welcome pack at the property. Following this feedback an extensive inspection of the property has been carried out, the kitchen is well equipped and we have placed updated user guides to the appliances. Windows issues and the reported leaking roof due to adverse weather at the time of your stay can no longer be identified but this will continue to be monitored. We have taken all your points into account and will take action as is necessary to ensure that we continue to provide an enjoyable stay for our future guests. Property Owner

  • "Rall we loved our stay here."

It is what it is...a very old and traditional Welsh farm cottage. The kitchen had modern appliances (which all worked, so not sure what happened to previous guests) and everything was clean throughout. There was also a thoughtfull selection of 'goodies' left as a welcome. The piano was a highlight! My daughter found the various music books and taught herself how to play over the course of the week (maybe it was a bit too early for Jingle Bells!). Cottage location was just what we were looking for, some beautiful scenery and walks were enjoyed. One point to mention, we decided to take my mother with us as a last minute thing and when we got to the cottage we discovered she couldn't actually get up the stairs, due in part to her own mobility issues. There is a stair banister rail up the first section but the second section had no support to hold onto, making it impossible for her to use the first floor bedroom. More importantly she was also unable to use the bathrooms so emergency purchase of a camping toilet (good old Amazon Prime!)to resolve the issue. However this was probably more on us than the property for not double checking access. Overall we absolutely loved our stay, a relaxing time, just spending time together as a family.

Thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed your stay. I'm glad your daughter enjoyed the piano music which has helped more than one generation of our family learn. Sorry to hear about your mum's struggles with the stairs, it is a challenge to attach a handrail that doesn't make the stairs too narrow to access with a bag or a child. Property Owner

  • "Gilfachwydd is a lovely old Welsh cottage."

It's full of character with dark beams and period furniture. It's also in a beautiful quiet location with a really nice private garden. A great base for a walking holiday. In terms of managing expectations, this was obviously once a family home. It's not a recently renovated property, which is part of its charm. So some of the appliances and fixtures are not the most modern, but everything we used works and the kitchen is well equipped. I would also add that it was very fair price compared to some other similar places. A couple of minor things - we could not find a key to open the doors from the conservatory to the patio, and the outdoor wooden patio furniture was looking a bit tired and could do with a refresh. In summary, a characterful and comfortable cottage and we would book again.

Thank your for your comments. We have made a deliberate choice to keep the character of the house which we realise may not be to everyone's taste. I will make sure the conservatory key is labelled and the patio furniture is due for a refresh this winter. Property Owner

  • "The furnishings and kitchen are tired."

The place needs maintaining better. No instructions for the cooker and some parts did not work. Best part is the surrounding grounds.

We are glad you liked the grounds which we agree are beautiful but sad you disliked the traditional kitchen which had been stripped and rewaxed the month before your visit. We take on board your point about instructions for the cooker and will make sure some are available. Property Owner
