  • "I have deliberated long and hard about this review; it's been very hard because I don't like upsetting people."

They're was a lot going on though that I think people should know. 1. I'm sick and tired of properties claiming to be dog friendly when they are actually barely dog tolerant. To the extent where at this property we have to take the dog off the property if he needed defecate, that's not dog friendly. For that reason of made our stay more negative. 2. The garden is NOT enclosed. This is, sadly, a blatant lie. For the most part people look for enclosed gardens because they either had small children or dogs. This garden has multiple places where both could get out and with a busy a road right in the other side of the garden (another thing you aren't told about!). They're are places where the metal mesh has been pushed away, are the side of the garden near the driveway there is a huge hole going into the brambles onto the other side that a child could literally just walk through, no need to even crawl really. Lastly, the driveway itself has a foot-ish high slate barrier (it's not a wall) that has maybe a meter and a half drop into the brambles on the other side - neither a small child nor a dog has the wherewithal to understand that it's unsafe. And once they're through the brambles, it's a gentle slope to that busy a road. It's not safe. As such, every time we had the dog in the garden (to urinate only, of course, because he wasn't allowed to do anything else) it was on lead constantly - which was not very fun for him. 3. When we arrived, the first thing we wanted was a nice cup of tea after a long drive. Unfortunately, when we got there we found over half of the dishes, crockery, pots, pans and cutlery were very dirty. We had to wash so much of it before use. I appreciate this was down to the guests before us but cleanliness should have been checked. 4. The property has mould all over. Ceilings, room corners, almost every window. The shower unit has mould in the controls and shower head. The vent in the bathroom is covered. The master bedroom has so much covering the walls in the corners. It's not acceptable. 5. The shower unit needs to be upgraded. It has terrible pressure, it's dirty and it's just very dated. 6. Master bed could do with being bigger, you have the space to have a larger and more comfortable bed. We didn't use the other beds but tested the mattresses and they felt cheap. 7. When you leave they all ask bedding to be removed, happy to do this. But it meant we saw the mattress protectors and mattresses, some of which are pretty stained. As a guest, I feel it's not something we should be seeing. 8. Towels felt very worn and old. 9. There was a very musty smell throughout, but especially in the dining room. We ended up buying Febreze and staying every day to help disparate it. 10. The sofas are uncomfortable, very low down and need updating. Some pros, the dishwasher was very good (makes all the first dishes even more confusing). Heating worked incredibly well. Good fridge/freezer space. Oven and stove worked well. Decent WiFi. The one time we needed to contact the owner because the water went (due to Welsh water and not the owner/property) their daughter was very communicative and helpful. The property is in a great location with a lot to do around within easy driving distance.

It is still the same, welcoming, clean and ideally situated for a relaxing holiday. Nothing is too much trouble for Menna the owner, fresh cream scones left ready for our arrival and a phone call to check everything is ok. Dog friendly and plenty of walks available down to the estuary with views across to Portmeirion. Highly recommended.

Everything you need is on hand. We couldn't get the TV to work so we contacted Mrs Evans and she was really helpful so we were able to watch the Rugby. The only down side if you have mobility issues would be it is on a very steep hill but of course this has a silver lining the view is great. Thanks for the lovely cake Meena and it was a pleasure meeting you.

Stunning views including that of Portmeirion across the estuary. Plenty to do within easy reach, such as previously mentioned Portmeirion, Ffestiniog steam trains, Mt Snowdon (recommend early booking for funicular), Greenwood adventures, Harlech beach, slate caverns and lovely walks taking in forests, lakes, mountains, sand dunes and waterfalls. Cosy cottage with fresh, airy bedrooms and comfy sitting room. Warm heater if needed (central heating if v cold)! Dining room too. Parking for a few cars. Well-kept outdoor space behind cottage, for outdoor dining, children to play in and adults to sit and take in the sunset on a balmy evening. Would definitely visit again! ❤️

  • "Lovely private bungalow, today and clean, however double bed was not great very wobbly and creaky, could definitely do with investing in new bed."

Lovely village, with great views, however bungalow looks out onto busy rd, so noise can vary, personally it didn't bother us to much, not as much as the uncomfortable bed. Also dishwasher wasn't working whilst we were there, not a massive problem for us, but would have been nice to know beforehand. Overall a plesant stay, I would book again if new bed was purchased, maybe invest in a king size bed for extra comfort. Love the fact that this house has a small chest freezer as well as small table top freezer in dining room. Comfortable lounge area, and we'll thought out kitchen, shower is also lovely.

  • "As a retired couple we picked this cottage for peace and quiet, the view and hopefully a lovely garden to relax in, eat and drink."

To read a book, to rest, listen to the birds and wildlife. Sadly, nothing in the listings/pictures mentioned that the cottage was right by the busy main road leading to and from the main towns. We could not sit out in the vast beautiful garden and admire the view, because of the noise. My partner 70, does not enjoy driving, but we felt forced out to find peace and quiet. Only to find many of the town's restaurants and cafes closed or not serving food. Very disappointed and although the hospitality from the owner was a lovely welcome it didn't make up for our hardship. Our dog loved it. If he could holiday alone, he would be back next year. Both feeling a little depressed actually. J & E. Lancashire

  • "I had a great week at Tirionfa."

The cottage was well equipped, clean and comfortable and as described on the website. The Welsh cakes, butter, fresh milk in the fridge and tea and coffee available on arrival was very welcoming. The owner returned my call quickly on arrival. I met her son later in the week who was great to chat to about farming. As well as a visitor book, the cottage provides really helpful details of amenities, suggestions and directions of places to visit. The village pub is friendly and welcoming. There is a Spa, chip shop, and other outlets in the next village. The area is friendly and I felt "at home" - a big thank you to everyone I met for being so welcoming. There were plenty of activities such as the steam train in Porthmadog, Harlech Castle and the beach which are dog and family friendly. I can certainly recommend Tirionfa as a super base for a memorable holiday.

  • "A massive issue for us was the the departure time of 9am on the final day."

Until we arrived, it was always stated as 10am (and continued to be on the Sykes website during our stay). With our family dynamic, there was no way we could be ready to depart by 9am so we needed to leave the afternoon before. This meant we lost a chunk of our holiday which was very unfortunate. If we had known about the 9am departure time, we'd have never booked the cottage. Aside from that, it's a nice cottage in a lovely part of Wales. The only other negative was the double bed which seemed fragile and many of the slats moved freely underneath. It was hard to get a good night's sleep!

As far as I and my family are concerned it was perfect for our needs. A lovely greeting by the owner who also had prepared Welsh Cakes and had the kettle ready for a cup of tea after our journey. The cottage was in a lovely setting looking across the estuary to Portmerion. However, the weather was awful which we had not expected, very misty and heavy rain which was disappointing. The Ship Aground in the village served very well prepared meals after 6 pm but not open during the day for lunch. We found it difficult to find somewhere for meal, it was mainly snack type meals. Kerfoots in Porthmadog was about the best for lunchtime eating. Unfortunately because of circumstances beyond our control, we had to come home on the Thursday which was a huge disappointment as we had been very comfortable in this beautiful bungalow.
