  • "We were all surprised and delighted to have the best weeks weather ever on Anglesey with beautiful beaches and vistas everywhere!"

Geologists dream too. You aren’t far from Newborough Forest and beach walk to an island accessible at low tide. So beautiful and interesting. Best walk was the Rhoscolyn circular walk with an amazing white arch on route. We also enjoyed a pano at the train station with the longest name in the UK, and a sunflower walk, Hootons PYO, farm shop and baked potatoes van down the road. The cottage was perfect for our three families of adults and Tilly the dog to come together for a holiday. Great facilities for a comfortable stay, seating areas outside front and back, good parking, dog walking area round the corner, great huge central hub to come together around a good solid comfy dining table for lots of feasting and drinking. The washing machine was quite as a mouse but the extractor fan was quite noisy when cooking. The twin room beds weren’t the most comfortable (feeling a spring or two) and the cleaning could be upped a notch (dirty windows and oven and a few overlooked old cobwebs) but overall a fabulous place for a family gathering.

  • "We had a great week on Anglesey, the cottage was lovely and well-appointed, close to Newborough for the beach and forest walks."

We even got a couple of proper summer days.

  • "High spec and some lovely extra touches."

Bit of an issue with the boiler which was resolved early on. Outside area at the front is a bit disappointing - empty flowerpots and dusty table and chairs. (Could do with a window cleaner too). There are a few chairs behind the house which we used instead in a nice sunny spot. However, these are minor things that didn't detract from our stay overall. Beautiful setting, wonderful views, easy access to lovely beach walks. Will recommend to others.

  • "Clean and comfortable."

Exactly what we were looking for as walking the wales coast path. Couldnt find some pan lids and the back door lock could do with a drop of oil. Apart from that a lovely stay ...nice to watch the red squirrel in the garden while having breakfast.

So glad that a member of our resident red squirrel family paid you a visit. We are very privileged to have them on the Clynnog estate. Property Owner

  • "A wonderful, spacious, well equipped place to stay, with ample room for 6 people."

Quality furnishings and dish wear as well as homely touches. Ample parking which is safe and secure. Garden at the rear was safe for a small dog and the washing line was useful. Different tog duvets would be helpful as a winter duvet in the double room was just too hot. An extra tea towel would have been useful to avoid washing the same one daily. We found it difficult to lock or open the back door with the key, so maybe this needs attention., instead we used the bolt so were happily secure. We asked the owner for an airer and measuring jug which were both delivered the next day,, so that was great service. We would love to stay again as we thoroughly enjoyed Anglesey.

  • "A super week in this lovely, spacious cottage."

It is in a very peaceful, rural spot just a few minutes from stunning Newborough forest and beach. We hired bikes so we’re able to cycle straight out of the cottage. It is well equipped with everything you need (although no smart tv) but we did need to pop out for oil, salt and dishwasher tablets - unusual that a small amount of each was not provided. It was lovely to find tea bags, milk and cake awaiting us on arrival. We know Anglesey well as we have relatives here and visit every year and we would recommend this comfortable cottage.

Many thanks for your feedback, great that you were able to explore Newborough Forest & Beach, they are our absolute favourites. We do normally provide the dishwasher tablets and salt and have made sure these have been replenished, thanks for highlighting this. Property Owner

  • "We had a thoroughly amazing week in North Wales and loved staying at Gwel y Rhos."

The cottage was immaculately clean and well presented. It was superbly equipped with just about everything you could imagine you could ever need. The WiFi was great too so our teenagers were kept happy! The location was perfect. A short drive over the bridge to Snowdonia National Park, as well having the most amazing beach and forest right on the doorstep for walks. Our dog has literally never looked happier! There is an amazing farm shop just down the road and the fish and chip shop in Newborough is ace. Highly recommend takeaway from there one night (and its only a 2 minute drive down the road!) I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone thinking of visiting/booking. We will definitely be coming back for more soon!

  • "Good cottage with comfortable beds and beautiful bathrooms."

Well equipped kitchen and we appreciated the clean cosy throws for the three sofas in the living room. Very clean throughout; the bedlinen and towels were immaculate. The only slight disappointment was that despite three lamps and many lights in the ceiling the main living space was dark. I guess it's brighter in the summer!

  • "The cottage location was fantastic and the cottage itself lovely but needed some tlc."

The cleaning company have let the cottage down as there were a number of cobwebs hanging from light fittings and cupboards and mould in the shower tray in the end suite. Also there were a significant number of light bulbs out, the single mattresses need replacing and the cushions on the sofa need re-padding. The high chair was also disgusting and needed to be cleaned before use, as did the washing machine which was full of dog hair. Such a shame because it was a lovely place.

  • "My experience of dealing with Sykes was not the best."

I originally made the booking (for July 2020) in early 2020, to go away with my 85 year old mum and other family members, but by June 2020, as the Welsh Covid rules were unclear, and she was anxious due to the uncertainty, we had to move the booking to July this year. I was charged a fee which I considered unacceptable in the circumstances. To make this change there was a ridiculous amount of waiting time to speak to someone too; this happened again this year when I had to speak to an operator to query payment details. Regarding the actual barn, the description does not indicate that it is on a site very close to other accommodation, and that the back garden is overlooked by children’s play equipment in the adjacent garden. Also, we were upset to discover that, as well as the 5 steps up to the patio in front of the house (with handrail,) which we were aware of, there were another 3 steps up to the door, (without handrail.) This was not on the description. My mother needs a push along walking aid, so this was not ideal at all. The description needs to be changed. On the plus side, when the shower rail above the bath fell off, the response from Sykes was immediate; they passed this to Sue the owner and she sorted the problem out the next day. Thank you. Overall a beautiful barn in a peaceful, rural setting, and we enjoyed our stay. Just would appreciate a more honest description of the site.

  • "The bungalow was a very good house to stay with a four year old."

It was spacious and not cluttered with ornaments etc. The kitchen /main room was large and meant everyone could be together when cooking . The bedrooms were very comfortable. The house was near the sea at the beautiful Newborough beach. Lovely sand, great views of Snowdonia and great walks in the pine woods next to the beach.

  • "We had a fabulous week at the cottage."

The location was perfect and the setting was very quiet just what we needed!!! Very well equipped kitchen and dining facilities. If I had to pick a negative the beds were very firm just not to our liking really and the water pressure in the showers and bath was not very good but apart from that it was perfect. Would highly recommend.

  • "Heating for hot water not turned on."

Only two logs and no kindling to get the fire started. There was a box of matches but it was empty. No cleaning cloths or sponges to wipe down surfaces. There was only four nesspresso pods, no cafeteria. The general waste bins outside the cottage were zip tide so we couldn’t use them. The cushions for outside seating were locked away, again couldn’t access them. My husband felt that there should be some form of contact when we arrived, as we have experienced at the other cottages on the island. He missed the personal touch. Despite all this we would use the cottage again, just go more prepared ourselves. It is a nice spacious cottage and very comfortable.
