  • "Lovely property nice location."

Parking was an issue though. Ohh and I didn’t log out of Netflix if you could ask the homeowner to log me out please.

Thanks for your kind review & for booking my UK home, Hilston. I’ll ask my cleaning company to log you out. I’m a tad too far away at the moment to do it - I live in Greece :) Property Owner

  • "Comfortable cottage."

Everything that I needed. Lovely garden. I had a very relaxing stay. Only downside was not realising the cottage was in the middle of a steep hill with parking at top or bottom of the hill. I found it hard carrying luggage and shopping from the car.

Thank you Cheryl for your review. It’s good to hear you had a very relaxing stay. Property Owner

  • "The property is in a lovely location and was perfect for us to explore North Wales with our two young children."

The cottage itself is pretty and it was nice and clean as we arrived but we discovered just a few things that were missing/lacking in order to make our stay perfect. We had planned to cook our own meals for a couple of the nights we were there (specifically one pot meals as they’re easier for us as a family) however, there was nothing to actually do the cooking in - Pyrex dishes etc. The 2 frying pans that were available were both small and not big enough to cook for a family of 4 so we ended up with takeaways and wasting food. (Also, being particularly picky, no Prosecco or Pint glasses to enjoy a beverage.) Of an evening, the cottage got quite chilly but there was no option for us to put the heating on as this was automatic/we weren’t allowed to touch it and there was also no fuel for the fire for us to use - we ended up cuddled up under a blanket. On the first night we locked the back door and once we tried to open it in the morning, the lock was so stiff that we could not work it. For love nor money, that back door would not open. We tried every morning and night but to no avail until finally, on the morning of our departure, we managed to get it open with some kind of magic touch. This meant we had 3 full days with all of our rubbish in the kitchen, nowhere to dry our wet towels or washing and no use of the outdoor space which was a shame as this was one of the main reasons we booked the cottage as our 2 young children love playing outside. Overall a cosy cottage but it didn’t quite live up to expectations for us.

Constructive feedback is something we welcome, helping us to improve our guest experience. Hilston provides a full set of saucepans plus stemmed wine glasses and large tumblers. It is unfortunate you didn’t find these a substitute for items you highlight as missing/lacking. This is our first year letting as a holiday cottage so we weren’t quite sure to what extent of required, rather than necessary, utensils and equipment our guests would use. Taking your comment on board we now supply a slow cooker plus Pyrex oven wear in the hope of offering a varied cooking solution to future guests. The heating is controlled via a Hive. As mentioned in the Welcome Information folder, ‘if using this manually please do not exceed 20 degrees as heating is electrically powered’. The hive is in position in the lounge and accessible to all for manual use should the need be. I sympathise with the frustration the back door lock must have caused you. Especially not being able to open it until you last day. All I can say is I do wish, during your stay, you had contacted me, or Sykes Cottages, to raise these issues. This would have given us the chance to rectify matters where we could, manage your expectations, plus most importantly the opportunity of making your stay a more comfortable and enjoyable one. • "A lovely little cottage in an ideal location for walking and very close to the waterfall."

We really appreciated the tea, coffee, sugar and milk left for us, other properties haven’t provided this and it was great to be able to make a cuppa on our arrival. Our taste must be very similar to the owner’s, as we loved the bee decor etc. We had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay, just a shame that the wet weather meant that we couldn’t spend as much time in the garden as we would’ve liked.

Thank you for you kind words and positive feedback. So pleased you enjoyed Hilston and your time there. Oh and your reference to the Bee deco - love it! Best regards Gail Property Owner

All of this and more with a stay at the picturesque Hilston.
