  • "4 generations of our family enjoyed the holiday."

Great grandmother, grandmother, Mum & grandson. We had a very peaceful stay with fantastic views from the house. Gwyn who looks after the house is lovely, he let us know that he was there if we needed him. He gave us helpful information during our stay. The house is lovely, with plenty of cooking utensils, tea towels, cloths & washing up liquid/ cleaning materials. A couple of the dining chairs are in need of work as they are unstable, as are both of the barstool chairs. The settee could also use a bit of tlc, there are a few points where you just sink right down something my 80 year old mum struggled with as she couldn't get back up early out of it herself. Both the double beds ( one downstairs/one in the master bedroom) are superbly comfortable. The single beds which are fine for young children, are not overly comfortable for an adult probably due to their weight difference ( one bed was taken by my 9 year old grandson & the other by my daughter. He found his bed really comfortable & my daughter not at all. They even swapped over but the outcome was just the same. The jacuzzi bath is brilliant, the same can be said for the shower downstairs. The upstairs ensuite shower wasn't used during the stay. There is plenty of space in the property, which is a bonus. Our dog was happy & settled, she did find the living room floor a little slippy initially but once she got used to it, she was fine. Portmadog is not very far away. There are numerous supermarkets & a high street packed with some lovely little independent shops & cafes. Black Rock sands are a must if you have a dog with you, it's sandy & clean. You park on the beach. Criccieth beach isn't far away either, it's a stony beach but still lovely, especially when the tide is out. Take some change with you for the car park. Would we return to Cefn-yr-Efail? Yes... We most certainly would! To the Evans family. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!

The setting is fantastic and the house felt nice and welcoming. The 2 single beds could do with new mattresses or maybe a topper as were quite uncomfortable according to my teenage grandchildren. Could do with some extra cutlery and crockery when the house is full of people and the dishwasher is half full! We ran out of plates and cutlery for the evening meal. We loved our stay and would come again.

Main bathroom is down stairs and on suit to master bathroom. Watch your head on the low sealing upstairs, there should be a sign through to the bedroom as it really hurts when you bash your head so be careful. Sleeping arrangements upstairs far from ideal, unable to stand upright in two bedrooms and you have to walk through one to get to the other. Very difficult for my elderly parents to get down and back up. Minor issue- not enough cutlery.

Soft close WC seats would have been good in both bathrooms give its description as luxury. The 3 extractor fans in the property didn't appear to work, unsure if they should have come on via the light switches. One of the electric sockets next to the bed in the main bedroom didn't work. 3 of the dining chairs had close legs, need tightening up. All of the above didn't spoil our holiday, they were minor details that weren't worth reporting during our stay. There were just the 4 of us staying so we all had plenty of room. Convenient for walks, mountains, beaches and Snowdonia area. Gwyn was very welcoming. We had a very enjoyable stay. The only problem we had was finding the house and had to rely on asking the locals as the directions were only given from the Caernarfon westerly direction, whereas we approached from the east through Porthmadog. It would be helpful if it advised you to take the Golan/Cwn Ystradllyn turning off from that direction on the A497 which does not require you to pass the woollen mill and is just before the row of of cottages on the right signed Cwn Ystradllyn then immediately on the left. If it mentioned whether the woollen mill was on the right or left of the road we could have worked it out. The first part of our feedback can be published but the directional information is for the owner. We told Gwyn about the poor directions and he said he had asked his son (the actual owner) to alter it, but he has not done do. It seems that we are by no means the first people to struggle with the lack of information on finding the house.

Only one thing to be aware of is that one of the upstairs bedrooms is a through route to the other (though Gwyn, the caretaker did inform me of this beforehand). This is OK with family and friends but i had a group of people unfamiliar with each other so this 'middle' room isn't ideal. The beds are noticably inferior in this room too - it seems that it's the one the owners forgot! But overall a great place and would gladly go back. The complementary eggs on arrival are nice too.

Gwyn, the owner, is a pleasant chap who was very welcoming and we appreciated the dozen newly laid free range eggs he left for us. The building is very spacious and had everything we needed. With a 2 year old in tow, the enclosed garden & decking area was great, he could be left to run with no worries of him escaping. The location is very quiet, the only noise was the occasional tractor and the views of the surrounding hills was superb. The weather certainly helped being hotter than usual for the week and this proved to be an ideal base from which to explore the many places of interest this area has to offer. All in all a good experience and would certainly recommend to anyone.

  • "The actual building is really nice, however, 3 of the upstairs bedrooms have extremely restricted height, I'm 6ft 2 so don't expect to be jumping on pogo sticks in many rooms but the ceiling must be closer to 5ft 12 in the middle with a steep attic drop to both sides, leaving just a narrow 2 foot or so down the centre to walk."

Walking upstairs caused creaking in the floorboards so badly that it woke people down in the downstairs bedroom. Walking was inevitable if you needed the loo as besides the one en-suite the other two upstairs rooms had to walk the full length of the building to get to the stairs to go down to the downstairs loo. The double bed upstairs in the end room had no cover on the mattress, luckily we had a blanket with us, I presume just an oversight on the cleaners behalf. The downstairs bath wouldn't get warm and when the nozzles shot out when they were switched on, so the bath was abandoned in favour of the shower. Overall the building is lovely, the guy who handled the key on arrival day was great, the location is great too. I figured for the price paid it was overpriced to say the arrival time was so late and the departure time so early, however we DID have the whole family there and the place wasn't cramped so not all bad by all means.
