This is our second stay at this cottage . We found this cottage to be very clean and welcoming, it is the ultimate in peace ,quiet and tranquility. The very place to recharge. Of course there is an array of interesting places nearby for eg Criccieth, Porthmadog, Harlech, Nefyn and of course the magnificent Carnarfon.I would absolutely recommend this cottage . • "My husband and I with our two children and two large dogs stayed at the cottage and absolutely loved it!"

My husband at 6'2" tall did bang his head a few times BUT we absolutely knew what we signed up for, the description of low ceilings and beams was perfectly clear in the description, personally at 5 foot I found it great. Our children had the upstairs bedroom and we had the ground floor bedroom, the rooms were lovely and clean and well furnished. On the first morning I drew the curtains and found a very curious fluffy cow staring at me with impressive horns, a lovely start to the day. The location was wonderful - so quiet and peaceful with fantastic views, plus can reach the coast easily along with many other activities. The kids thought it was great as they had the upstairs and excellent access to the internet. The dogs loved it as well, there was a enclosed area via french doors for them to wander around in and also a front garden to run around in. All in all a lovely cottage in a lovely location.

But my husband is 190cm tall and he has back problems, so the low ceilings, especially n the shower were unfortunately really a problem for him.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for your lovely note on departure! I am so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay, we do mention in the listing some of the areas of Hendy Cottage have low ceilings and we have also tried to portray this in the images as best as we can. • "In many ways Hendy Cottage is perfect, and we have stayed there before."

A little disappointed that the downstairs bedroom window is now partly obscured by a fence and I do think it would be advisable to warn people of the building work taking place immediately behind the property because I think we may have changed our booking to a date when this had been completed ,had we known. Still a beautiful cottage in a lovely setting.

Hi Judith, thanks so much for your feedback. I agree with you on the fence, however, we thought the compromise was worth it to give guests an exclusive area at the front of the cottage, which used to be the access to the property next door. Regarding the building work, unfortunately due to weather and contractors it has over ran into the busy period, however, it shouldn’t have impacted your stay as the contractors knew about guests being in the cottage. If it has please contact me directly. Thanks again for staying at Hendy. Property Owner

Unfortunately there was unexpected building work in the adjacent cottage which meant parking issues and noisy workmen at times, the owner was really quick to respond and tried his best to tell them to be discreet and was really helpful and very apologetic, couldn't fault how he tried to resolve the issues. Luckily the weather was great and knowing the local area well I just spent longer on the beaches at Nefyn, whistling sands, Aberdaran, and saw beautiful sunsets on Pwllelli beach. Despite this I would definitely recommend Hendy to family and friends and am planning a return trip myself

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Henry cottage."

It is warm and cosy. The log burner is lovely and easy to use. Enough fuel for one fire only so you need to buy your own. Location is very remote, nearest shop is 4 miles away and very expensive. We thought it was a shame that no simple welcome pack was left like milk, tea etc as we travelled for over 3 hours, arrived quite late at night and had to immediately go out again and find the local Londis to be able to have a drink. The garden is pretty secure but be careful if you have large dogs as the fencing is quite low. Our son enjoyed being bale to use the extra lawn for football practice ! The beds are comfy and bed linen and towels are good quality and plenty of towels are provided. As stated by others the ceilings in the kitchens and the shower are VERY low so take care if you are tall. We visited lots of local areas such as Abersoch and porthmaddog.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for your lovely feedback and I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. In regard to the welcome pack, we did used to supply one, however, most people didn’t actually use it and we found ourselves binning everything once they had left. Most guests tend to have a preference on their tea and coffee these days and bring their own. Thanks again for booking Hendy. Property Owner

The downside was access to the upstairs bedroom.I would have thought the step ladder /stairs would contravene health and safety regulations,in our opinion it was downright dangerous. There was no means of cooling the upstairs bedroom, which was extremely hot ,the week in June that we stayed there. Also the garden could have done with some maintenance

Hi Rosalind, Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm sorry about the upstairs bedroom access, it is actually a fixed staircase with a handrail even though it may look like a ladder. It is called a crog loft and is a very common feature in old farm buildings in North Wales. I have stipulated on Sykes website the access issue so that guests are aware before booking the cottage. In terms of cooling the upstairs room we could have given you a fan if we had known about the issue during your stay. Thanks also for letting me know about the garden, I will take this up with the gardeners. We do like to keep it looking natural, however, it may have been they were due just after your visit but I will certainly check. I hope the above didn't affect your holiday at Hendy. Modern facilities include Sky TV and WiFi, and BluRay player. The downstairs bed and sofas were very comfortable - as was the garden furniture. The Howdens style kitchen had everything we needed for storing, cooking and serving our food. The surroundings and scenery were beautiful, with easy access to North and South coasts of Pen Llŷn, along well made country lanes, and A roads. We didn’t see a single pothole after leaving England! Pwllheli has a wonderful selection of modern shops (Wilko, Home Bargains, Asda, Lidl - and a Wetherspoons!) cafes, and gift shops. From Hendy, if you turn right at the gate, you will travel along a single track road passing down through a pine forest, until you emerge opposite the Funeral Director in Llanaelhaearn (important landmark!) - turn right, then left at the roundabout, and you will find yourselves climbing up and around Yr Eifl, until you see a sign pointing right for Nant Gwrtheyrn, which has the most incredible scenery, café, and challenging cliff path in North Wales! The best Chip Shop and Chinese takeaway is Yummy Box - run by Billy (Bing Lin) and they stayed hot until we got back to Hendy Cottage! This is a truly special place, with horses, Highland Cattle, and a Cock Pheasant as our neighbours, who helped us enjoy our wonderful holiday at Cae’r-ferch Ganol

The wood burner was amazing and the kitchen had everything you could need. The welcome pack of coffee, tea, milk, sugar, Welsh cakes and a bottle of wine was a lovely thoughtful touch. Some instructions for the fan oven and grill would have been helpful and a washer dryer would have completed all needs. The only other disappointments were that it was said there were walks from the door. You can indeed walk from the door but the lanes are extremely narrow and those drivers who appear familiar with them do drive very fast so it's neither pleasant or easy with dogs or small children also the garden(s) are not actually secure as described and easily got out of by our inquisitive pup who then had quite a nerve wracking adventure amongst the highland cattle in the neighbouring fields. Fortunately the farmer was extremely understanding and no harm done on this occasion. Having said that we would happily return somewhat better prepared and aware of these things because nothing detracts from the cottage itself and the fantastic location.
