It is so peaceful with no traffic, ensuring a very relaxing stay. Ideally located for visiting attractions on both north and south coasts, of which there are many more to discover. The dogs love running up nearby Nant Gwrtheyrn. Thanks to the owners for a memorable stay and see you next time.

The peaceful location was just what we wanted, stunning views and tranquility. The cottage was very cosy, clean, well equipped and has been a very welcome stay. There is a walled courtyard style garden at the back completely secure for the dogs, and at the front is the main large and fully secure garden, the dogs loved it. Would definitely go again, beautiful fresh flowers in all the rooms and biscuits and dog treats left by the hosts, very thoughtful.

  • "I immediately felt at home with my dogs at Merlin and have booked a return visit."

After reading previous reviews, the welcome by the owner to my dogs was paramount in booking a place where the dogs are safe and happy. They certainly were, the walks and views at nearby Nant Gwrtheyrn were out of this world and food at the on site Caffi Meinir you have to experience. I was told by locals in the shop that a nearby chapel in Llithfaen is being converted into a cafe so am looking forward to that. Great place to park your muddy boots and relax by the open fire. Thank you to the owners for welcoming us into their cosy home. Julia, Tiffy & Kenzie

Curtains were drab. But upstairs was lovely. It was lovely scenery and quiet. Hasn't put us off from going again.

We are so sorry you found the kitchen cold. There is an electric radiator and we apologise for not pointing this out to you. February was very cold this year. The downstairs matching curtains are brown with a swirly pattern, to contrast with the cream coloured walls. They are good quality and from a well known high street store. In the end, we suppose, it all boils down to a matter of personal taste. We are glad it hasn't put you off. Property Owner

Thank you for your lovely comments. We look forward to seeing you again. We were a bit concerned at you being cold as you used the back bedroom but did not seem to have turned on the night storage heater in that room. The heater was on in the front bedroom for your arrival. Also the heater in the lounge was still set at number 2 ( out of 9) when we came to do the changeover and we wonder whether you had not realised that it could be turned up. We note that the coal fire was well used and hope that you were not too inconvenienced during one of the coldest weeks of the year so far. Property Owner

  • "Lovely location."

Did not like bathroom in lounge. Kitchen and bedrooms lovely. Bathroom and lounge shabby.Sofa and chair in lounge had obviously been damaged by a previous guests dog and not replaced. Bathroom shabby in need of updating and in the lounge so not private.

It's always difficult when guests damage our property and do not tell us. We only have changeover day to put things right. With the whole day spent cleaning we had to wait for a week with no guests to arrange for a new sofa and chair to be delivered. In the meantime we covered the scratch marks with new throws. Also large items like this cost a lot of money and we do not currently ask guests for a returnable bond to cover damage. This is something we will discuss with our booking agent. We are sorry you were unhappy with the location of the bathroom. We understand completely, however we do not have the funds to reconfigure the whole house and hope that you were not too inconvenienced. Property Owner

Good base to explore the local area with the nearest beach a 5 min drive. Local shop at the bottom of the hill along with a nice welcoming pub. House has garden and small yard to the rear, however there are no large areas for pet owners to let there dogs off in the village . The one football pitch and park area is no dogs allowed so you'd have to drive to the local beaches to give them a run which to be honest is quite nice on an evening or early morning. For the taller amongst us watch your head as you go upstairs bumped head daily much to the amusement of the other half. All in all a great week spent at Merlin , amazing area , friendly people stunning views and central to all attractions , highly recommended.

  • "The cottage is in need of some improvement and modernization."

In the owned own words ," this is not a 5 star accommodation" we agree and would rate it about 2 star. Accommodation failed to meet the good standard we have had previously from Sykes.

Thank you for your feedback. A comprehensive scheme of decoration and modernisation was planned for winter 2019/20. Covid put paid to that. Unfortunately, the Welsh government did not allow us to visit the cottage during either lockdown. During the latest 7 month lockdown the lack of heating caused paint on the walls to flake and some rust to appear, in particular on the front of the fridge. There were also some unexpected repairs to make. We have been reluctant to cancel anyone's holiday, post lockdown as many bookings this summer have been rescheduled from last year. All essential repairs were made in April and there is a comprehensive cleaning scheme, as ever. We explain to all guests that the cottage is waiting for a "good decorate" at the end of the season and hope that this does not affect the quality of their holiday. Thank you again for your feedback. The property

A pretty, whitewashed, stone, terraced cottage, set on the outskirts of the village of Llithfaen, one of the highest villages on the Llyn Peninsula, enjoys some wonderful views and is just four miles from the delightful coastal resort of Nefyn and eight miles from the market town of Pwllheli, North Wales.

This pretty cottage provides a cosy base, ideal for exploring this wonderful part of North Wales for a couple, two friends or a small family.

A homely little place with a coastal theme, the cottage is full of quirkiness and character features such as the exposed beams in the sitting room and the open fire is a lovely addition, especially during those cooler months.

The sitting room offers comfortable seating and a dining area, and a cosy bathroom has been neatly tucked away, off the living accommodation.

A well-equipped kitchen and two double bedrooms upstairs, one enjoying wonderful countryside and distant sea views, complete this lovely cottage.

Outside there is a front garden with furniture, accessed down some steps from the paved patio area.

Take in the sea breeze and enjoy those wonderful views after a busy day out and about, walking on the mountains.

Benefiting from a sunny aspect itÂ’s an ideal spot to sit and relax, enjoy a drink or even some alfresco dining perhaps?

On the doorstep, and within walking distance of the cottage, are the abandoned slate village of Nant Gwrtheyrn (now a popular Welsh language centre), miles of relaxing, rolling countryside, with spectacular views over the whole of Tremadog and Caernarfon Bays and the incredible prehistoric remains of Tre'r Ceiri, a hill fort, with stunning views, made up of 150 dry stone hut circles.

The area is an ideal base for either an active walking holiday or a relaxing, sightseeing tour, full of history, spectacular scenery and award-winning beaches.

Discover deserted coves and enjoy miles of sandy beaches which this coastline is famed for.

Just a few miles away are the sailing centres at Abersoch and Pwllheli, and the beautiful village of Aberdaron with a National Trust visitor centre.

Slightly further afield is the stunning Snowdonia National Park, the Italianate village and gardens of Portmeirion, definitely worth a visit and for history lovers there are many historic castles, including Criccieth, Caernarfon and Harlech.

This lovely cottage offers a great holiday base for a relaxing break, all year round.

The small village of Llithfaen is one of the highest villages on the Llyn Peninsula, enjoying some of the best views around due to its location on the slopes of the Yr Eifl mountain range. The village boasts its own community-run village shop and local pub, which was established in 1988 and offers a friendly welcome. Llithfaen is very proud of its Welsh heritage with the Welsh Language and Heritage Centre and restaurant located just up the road at Nant Gwrtheyrn, which also has a pebble beach. The pretty coastal town of Nefyn lies 4 miles away, sitting atop sweeping cliffs, and is home to a fine, two-mile stretch of sandy beach, popular with families, along with a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants.
