  • "This was a lovely cottage."

    Very comfortable, warm and in a quiet location. Close to Caernarvon Bangor, Criccieth and Black Rock Sands. There are plenty of walks directly from the cottage and they have provided some games and books. We were able to login to our own Netflix on the Smart TV. The kitchen was well equipped and everything spotless.The instructions on how to reach it if you travel up after dark, as we did, could up improved. It couldn't been seen from the road as it sits behind another house which has a different name but it can be seen clearly during daylight.

  • "What a beautifully finished bungalow."

    Looks amazing from outside and inside has been decorated and furnished beautifully too. It has everything you would need and is very comfortable. If anything there is a lack of places to put your things in the bathroom and nowhere to sit in both bedrooms. It has an outside building with a washing machine and a summerhouse which we did not use. The location is fabulous and easy access to the main roads.

  • "The cottage is really lovely, just as described, spacious and clean."

    It was ideal for our family as there was a small baby who loved crawling everywhere and appreciated it all been on one level. Our stay was too short, and we didn't have time to sit and savour the peace and quiet of the delightful summer house and patio. Next time. I'm not impressed with Sykes cottages. The company is not good at responding. Despite offering a phone number, WhatsApp and SMS contact details ,and live chat, none of these options were available on Sunday. Thank goodness I was just trying to notify them and that there wasn't a serious problem.

  • "Lovely cottage in an idyllic location."

    Ideal for all the local attractions in the area. We booked this property as it had an EV charging point. This made our stay less stressful as charging points in North Wales are not always accessible and they are very expensive. We made good use of it. A washing machine was provided for use, but there was not means of drying the clothes. A tumble drier would be an additional facility that would be most welcome. If that is not possible, maybe a washing line. The heating was controlled remotely. Even though we were told we could adjust it-that was not possible. We were told to open doors if we were too hot. Such a waste of energy. Would recommend the property and hopefully be back in the future. We

    Hi Bethan, thank you for your feedback. We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Tan y Coed and enjoyed use of the EV charging provided at the cottage. With regards to the heating, each of the 4 thermostats can be controlled locally by guests to vary the default setting up or down. We will review the controls and instructions to make sure guests can operate this easily in future and regret you were not able to do this. The cottage is newly renovated, which includes triple glazing and modern insulation (EPC rating: C). Throughout your stay, the weather was good and on checking the heating system, the temperature in the property reached 24 degrees C during most days. Consequently, the heating wasn't used much as the temperature was warmer than the thermostats were set to. We advise using the blinds in the property during hot and sunny days if guests want to keep the property cool, windows and doors can also be kept open to aid cooling on such occasions. There is a clothes airer available within the property for drying clothes, but we will consider your kind suggestion for a tumble dryer. Thank you again for staying with us.   • "Wonderful. We loved it and had a fantastic week."

    It had everything we needed. The only tiny downside we had was finding the highchair - we didn't know where it was until midway through our stay. We contacted via Sykes messages. Such a minor point. We loved staying here and would love to stay again

    As someone put in your book a tumble dryer would be a big bonus. Very comfortable chairs and everything provided in the kitchen.

  • "This lovely cottage is set in a peaceful location a reasonable distance from the main road (you can only faintly hear some traffic when outside, though inside, it's silent)."

    It really is a nice place to stay and you can bank on an undisturbed nights sleep. The cottage interior is finished to a high standard and is very comfortable with modern appliances. It was clean and airy, the lounge area having high ceilings and lots of light from the sky-lights The summer house area is lovely to sit out in the evenings, though I'd recommend citronella if sitting out on the patio.

  • "Loved our stay at Tan y Coed!"

    A perfect location to allow quick access to Criccieth and Porthmadog. We loved walking into the mountains from the cottage and made this a daily routine. The cottage is fabulous with everything we needed, EV charging, fast wifi, clean, warm, comfortable - we loved it, and will be back!

  • "Sadly one of the bed bases had collapsed and wouldn't support the mattress so had to ring the emergency no."

    and a carpenter was sent out to fix it. The other singe bed mattress was very uncomfortable and it felt like bars running through it. We wondered whether it should have had a topper on? The duvet on the double bed smelled a bit like as if a wet dog had been lying on it. Only one tea towel, we met the handyman and he gave us 2 more. Also only 1 bath towel per person. We complained but no more were brought to us. Otherwise the place was clean and plenty of hot water.

As I said when we spoke, unfortunately it seems that a previous guest had caused damage to the bed base, that they did not report and was not detected at changeover as it was concealed by the mattress. I was grateful that you called the Menai Holidays 24/7 helpline and that their carpenter was sent out immediately to repair the bed. I was also pleased that our Handyman was available to meet with you on your arrival and provide you with additional towels. We have since spoken with our cleaning team and reminded them to provide 2 towels per person. I appreciate that one of your guests found their bed to be uncomfortable. All the beds are new this year and of the same type. I trust the remainder of your group found them comfortable. Thank you again for your feedback and please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by the broken bed base. I hope you will understand that occasionally guests discover damage which has not been reported previously, but we will always strive to remedy this immediately, as we did on this occasion.   • "Well equipped property in a very good location."

    We struggled to start the EV charger during the day. Luckily we left the car plugged in and it charged overnight. More explanation is needed on this point but very good to have the charger as the area is light on public charging options. One tea towel is insufficient for a week. Spare bin liners and soap refills including for the showers would be welcome and were expected at the price point. The local barking dogs are unpleasant but we have to accept them as they live close by! The handyman was very helpful he sorted a spare recycling bin as ours was full, and a food bin as well! Star performance! A very pleasant stay highlight the sun terrace.

  • "What a beautiful cottage, very clean, spacious and comfortable."

    Slept so well! Only issue for us was not enough hot water for all 3 of us to shower. There was an issue with the drain in the shower which we reported and it was remedied the same day - fantastic service. All in all a lovely place to stay and we would definitely come back. Thoroughly recommend.

  • "We thought pillow protectors should have been used."

    We would have liked a mirror closed to a socket for use of hair dryer.

  • "The property was immaculate."

    Very comfortable, all facilities that may be required... However I have to point out the entrance to the property, the lane, was less than acceptable on several occasion we had to run the gauntlet of 3 barking and aggressive sounding dogs. This seemed to happen on alternate days. I feel this might upset some people and certainly children would be scared

About the location

PENYGROES

Llanberis 8 miles; Caernarfon 6.5 miles.

The lovely quiet village of Penygroes is situated around six miles from the historic castle town of Caernarfon, bordering the Snowdonia National Park with beautiful scenic walks and mountain views easily accessible. A good selection of shops, cafes and pubs are available in the village and the wider local area is full of restaurants and activities such as golfing, swimming, tennis, surfing and horse riding to name but a few. Plas Dinas Country House is also nearby, which is home to some great history as well as The Gun Room restaurant. The beaches on Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula can be reached in about half an hour, while the beach at Dinas Dinlle is just a 10-minute drive away. Nearby, Caernarfon is home to Caernarfon Castle, which is well worth a visit, with further shops and cafes available, as well as steam train trips. Portmeirion is also a short distance away, featured in the TV series ‘The Prisoner’. Just 8 miles away is the Welsh Heritage centre which has a licensed cafe at Nant Nwrtheyrn with magnificent sea views from it's decked dining area. Beddgelert is a very attractive village, surrounded by the beautiful Snowdonia National Park, with a fabulous arts and craft shop, and several pubs. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
