  • "Impossible to say too many good things about The Banquet House."

For us the main thing was the garden being secure, which it is. Completely walled and large in size, with lots of little nooks for the dogs to sniff around, and play. Parking area was gated, which gave us added security. The house offered everything we needed during our stay. Comfort, convenience and so much more. Everything you need is on your doorstep, shops for groceries, good choice of takeaways and restaurants, as well as great walks. We visited Conwy, Llandudno, Livepool, Chester and Talacre Beach. All so dog friendly and easily accessible. We were lucky with the weather during our stay, so we were able to enjoy the beautiful garden too. Jan and Mark were easily contactable during our stay, not that we needed them as everything was perfect for us. Really was a perfect and relaxing stay for us and our precious dogs, so cannot rate highly enough. We really hope to visit again soon to explore more of the area.

  • "What a wonderful property."

It’s our first time of staying in a listed building and it was superb. Luxury fittings and fittings and a lovely gift of flowers, cake and fizz left for us by the owner. The garden is safe and perfect for our 2 dogs. They had plenty of space to play and run and we were happy that they couldn’t get out. The summerhouse was a brilliant added extra and we enjoyed sitting in there out of the breeze. Can’t recommend this property too much. Probably the only downside is the fact that you have to go through the master bedroom to get to the 2nd bedroom but we all coped very well. Thankyou Jan and Mark for making our stay a really great experience.

The owners had gone to the trouble of putting a beautiful Xmas tree up in the lounge. House was exactly as advertised, very comfy, everything you needed. We cooked a full Xmas dinner and there was enough pots and pans etc. Only minor issue, it could do with more logs maybe storing in one of the outhouses, however the owner did say they would drop more off for us, we didn’t like mithering them with it being Christmas, we did spend quite a lot of money on logs. • "The Banquet House provided us with a wonderful place to stay for our family in August 2023."

If you’re after a character property that’s well equipped and you don’t mind a low doorway or two, this is a great place to stay in North Wales. When I say character, I mean a property that’s well over 500 years old that has been beautifully looked after and restored and features on the town trail! The beams throughout are beautiful, the floors squeaky and the trapdoor and tunnel in the living room gives you somewhere to put the kids when they’re misbehaving for a couple of hours. Our dog Olive also loved the walled garden, and we particularly enjoyed sitting out on a night in the summerhouse with a glass of something listening to the waterfall in the pond. Jan and Mark, the owners were excellent in terms of communication by text throughout and also accommodated our request to be able to plug our car into the 13 amp socket in the little outhouse. Rhuddlan is a quiet little town that’s well located for lots of things in the north eastern part of Wales. Prestatyn beach is 15 minutes away, Chester Zoo 35 minutes, Llandudno 30 minutes or south to Llangollen about 50 minutes. However, at the end of the street is the gem of Rhuddlan Castle, also surrounded by some lovely walks to take the dog. Rumour has it (although unconfirmed) that the aforementioned tunnel (I didn’t really put the kids in there for a couple of hours) used to link to the castle, but apparently when a previous owner started excavating it, there was a bit of handy subsidence. A wonderful little stay. Thank you.

We were lucky that the wonderfully changeable Welsh weather meant we were and to enjoy all that this lovely property has to offer. The garden, BBQ and summer house were fantastic on our warm sunny days. Such a pretty and relaxing place to spend our time. Our dogs absolutely loved the garden! It was large enough for them to play and run around but totally safe and secure. On a couple of chilly, rainy evenings were also able to make use of the log burner in the stunning living room, which made it so inviting and cozy. This property has everything you could need for a home from home stay. The photos don't do justice to how grand and spacious it is. It is also in a great position for exploring this area of Wales. We would not hesitate to recommend The Banquet House and would love to visit again in the future.

The property

This 14th century property is set in the historic town of Rhuddlan in North Wales.

The Banquet House is a Grade II listed property, which has retained its wealth of medieval character to offer you and your loved ones a unique base to call home as you explore the coast and countryside of Wales.

Push open the characterful front door of the stone-built house to be impressed by the clever blend of contemporary furnishings with the historical features, creating a welcoming aura to return to.

Step into the elegant kitchen, where the Range cooker takes centre stage before all the other modern appliances required to cater for yourselves, including the ever-important wine chiller, so that you can open up something chilled as dinner simmers on the hob.

Gather your loved ones within the light-filled dining room to enjoy your home-cooked delight and together plan the next day’s itinerary.

After dinner, settle down for the evening within the sitting room, where the exposed beams and inglenook fireplace complement the plush furnishings, making a wonderful space to flick on the TV, while the woodburning stove crackles in the background.

There is a historic trap door in this room with stone steps which leads to a blocked tunnel, believed to be a secret tunnel to and from the castle it is perfect for children to explore historic Wales.

Climb the staircase to find the master bedroom, containing a four-poster bed and an original fireplace; look forward to snuggling up under the crisp white sheets of the king-size bed before freshening up each morning within the sleek family bathroom, boasting a shower over bath, basin and WC.

The second-floor double bedroom, resting in the eaves of the property, is spacious and is full of character, from the exposed beams and quaint windows providing pretty views.

Continuing to impress is the walled garden, where you and your loved ones can enjoy a spot of alfresco dining, whilst admiring the water feature.

Your canine companions will be delighted roaming the spacious lawn, whilst you head into the quaint summerhouse to relax with a good book during a balmy afternoon.

The central location of the property means that you are a mere stone’s throw away from a selection of pubs and eateries, as well as shops for picking up any essentials.

Whilst here, discover the town’s interesting past by visiting the 13th century Rhuddlan Castle, built by Edward 1st and overlooks the beautiful River Clwyd.

Head to the coastline to spend the day at the beach in Rhyl, perfect for those traditional seaside days out, with its wide promenade with open views and glorious sands.

Alternatively, travel slightly further to the coastal town of Llandudno, home to two beaches, a 9th-century Llandudno Pier, with shops and a games arcade and the cliffs of Great Orme, providing stunning views.

Immerse yourself in the local history further by visiting Conwy with its imposing 13th-century fortress or spend the day at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, home to red pandas, tigers and snow leopards.

Outdoor enthusiasts will be delighted by the close location to the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, where you will find a magnitude of walking and hiking routes, as well as the outdoor attractions of Zip World Fforest and Bounce Below.

The Banquet House is an outstanding retreat for that well-deserved break.
