  • "A lengthy review because I found it impossible to try and contact Sykes for more details on this house."

On arrival there is no welcome pack to help you get started so make sure you bring essentials like milk, tea, coffee, bread, butter, condiments including salt, pepper and Vinegar. Great location as a whole but there is no drive mirror to help guide you out onto the main road like stated in description. Turn left for the beach and right for the four mile bridge. If you have an electric car there is no charging point. If you have a very long 3 pin cable to reach the back near the hot tub you'll find outdoor sockets. Otherwise you'll need to go through the kitchen window like we had to. Large house with plenty of rooms and space for families. Dining room chairs are very heavy and uncomfortable. 2 Sitting rooms both with TVs although not many channels to choose from. Found some games and went to play a cheaper version of Guess Who but unfortunately there were no cards so we couldn't play it. Found a pack of cards in a box marked 'Magic' which are a normal pack of playing cards and complete thankfully. Thankfully the hot tub was working but there are no instructions on how to lift the lid. Diagrams would also help. There is no water testing kit or floating chemical container to know if it's safe to go in. Large garden with outdoor seating and long grass which wasn't great. Definitely need a regular gardener especially in summer. Kitchen large with plenty of cupboard space. 2 fridge freezers. Kettle, tea pot, mugs, glasses, cutlery, utensils, crockery, couple of dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, hand wash, few cleaning items, ironing board and iron, broom, vacuum, washing machine and a separate tumble dryer. There's an outdoor brick made BBQ but you'll need to bring coal etc. There is a fireplace and wood was supplied but we didn't need to use it. One towel per person was supplied on the beds so definitely bring more along with tea towels and hand towels and toilet roll/kitchen roll. Bathroom has a jacuzzi bath and separate electric shower. The shower door has seen better days and is difficult to open and close and the water drains away extremely slowly. There is also a shower and sink in one of the bedrooms. Again slow drainage. Radiator in bathroom never heated up even when the heating was on after a very cold blustery day. 10-15 mins walk into Trearddur Bay itself which has a car park, toilets, Spa shop, post office, fish & chips shop, Sea Shanty Cafe (not just a cafe!), ice cream, Store Deli and more around the corner. All food places were very nice indeed. Would we stay here again? Probably. Room for improvement? Yes absolutely. All windows have blown and need replacing. New showers and to look into the drainage of them. Cleanliness - not high standard as the bath was dirty, and under the sofa cushions in the conservatory is really bad. Damp appearing in the front bedroom by the shelves nearest the wardrobe (not ensuite side). A couple of radios around the house would have been nice. There is some kind of stereo system in one of the front bedrooms that supports the very first ipods that came out! Needless to say we couldn't use it. Mattresses in every room need replacing. My MIL had to put a pillow under her side of the bed to stop her from rolling out as it was all lopsided. They've definitely seen better days! Plenty of room for a pool table! A nicer welcoming into the home with certain essentials would be a great touch as I've experienced this before and it makes you feel more at home and looked after. Overall its still standing after the horrendous gales we've had and everyone had a nice time.

Thank you for your comments in your review of Bryngwyn following your holiday. Following your suggestions, we will be providing a Welcome Pack for guests arriving: tea bags, small coffee jar, milk, Welsh cakes etc. We try to replenish the card and boardgames every year. Unfortunately, pieces do get lost and muddled up over successive visits. We provide a wide selection of DVDs and books and supply two dvd players. We don't promote the house as having more than the standard freeview channels for this part of Wales. We'll be looking into providing some extra DAB radios for the bedrooms instead of the older generation ipod connector / radio. All the TVs can receive DAB radio channels.  We will have a look at the bathroom radiator. Thanks for pointing out that it is not working. We are also looking at installing a larger shower tray and new shower door in the main bathroom this winter season. The electric shower unit itself was replaced earlier this spring. Regarding a mirror for use when exiting the drive, unfortunately this is not straightforward issue and requires planning permission but we'll have a look what can be done. We do however always recommend turning left towards Trearddur Bay to make vision easier when exiting, but approaching traffic should now be travelling at 20 mph, which should give you more time for exiting. We're sorry that you struggled with opening the hot tub cover. I'll write some new instructions for this and using the hot tub itself.  The hot tub is cleaned before every changeover and the water and chemical treatment replenished. This treatment is located within the filter compartment itself so there is no separate floating chemical container.  Regarding the mattresses, thanks for pointing this out as we haven’t previously received complaints, but we will look at renewing them overtime.  We have been advised not to encourage recharging of electric vehicles at the property for guests due to insurance and health and safety concerns. There is a link on the Menai website to local re-charging stations which would be much faster.  We haven't considered a pool table as we think space is a bit restricted but we'll look into providing other facilities in the garden such as a swing ball. We're glad that you enjoyed all that Trearddur Bay and Anglesey has to offer. Property Owner

It’s so well equipped which it doesn’t state on the listing. They had everything from washing up liquid to hand wash and a fully stocked kitchen. Everything you could need. There isn’t a travel cot or high chair though but that’s fine and we planned for that. The garden is amazing for sitting outside and the hot tub is a bonus, although not a deal breaker for us. The shower in the main bathroom wasn’t heating when we arrived but I think the previous guests reported it as someone came to look at it soon after we arrived. Could maybe do with a small bin in the bathroom. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely book again.

  • "We have had a wonderful Christmas holiday."

All be it we had heavy rain and strong winds ,thunder, lightning, hail , the lot. Because of this we spent many hours indoors. Nice because its been a long time since we have had all the family together. Plenty to amuse us with games and jigsaws when we weren`t trying to brave the elements The house plenty big enough for 8 people although I agree with other holiday makers we would have liked another bathroom / toilet. Our only bugbear was the fact there was no heating in the lovely main bathroom. Such a large room it meant that in winter time it really was cold. It would have been nice to have a heated towel rail. Lovely house so well equipped, lovely area too . We braved the hot tub when the weather allowed it. All in all a great family Christmas.

Many Thanks for your feedback and we're glad that your Family had an enjoyable Christmas holiday at Bryngwyn, braving the elements of a stormy Trearddur Bay and all it has to offer. We've had a look at the heated Towel Rail in the main bathroom which is plumbed into the central heating and it's working now. Apologies for that. Property Owner

It is a tight turn into property and possibly replace missing mirror across road to help. House was clean and well equipped. Issue with internal door being locked dealt with professionally. Hot tub was good, but when finally got jets working at a higher rate, (User error), it all stopped after about 10 minutes. On last day so no issue, but may need some maintenance. Garden is lovely and dog friendly, but would benefit from some chicken wire at bottom of gate as dogs can get underneath if high incentive on other side.

  • "The property was amazing in a brilliant location."

It was very well equipped and extremely comfortable. We loved the garden and the fact that our dog was safe once the gate was closed. The only negatives for us were that there weren't enough bathroom facilities for 6 adults made worse by the fact that the sink in the bedroom with the shower wasn't connected underneath, so when you turned on the tap water just poured out onto the carpet resulting in an unpleasant smell in that room. We reported this to Sykes on the second morning of our holiday (Sunday) and were told that someone would come and fix it the day after but by Wednesday we still hadn't heard anything so reported it again, only to be told our request would be looked at within 24 hours. We then received a message on Friday saying they would send someone as soon as they could which was too late as we left on Saturday. It was a significant leak and judging by the smell in that room, it hadn't just happened as the room smelt dank and fusty. This was disappointing as we had put my 75 year old mum in this room as she has mobility issues and it would have been useful for her. Instead we all had to use one bathroom. The bathroom is very large but the shower was tiny and the shower integrated into the bath leaked and was difficult to operate. The only other observation is that the entrance and exit to the property is extremely tight, especially if you have larger vehicles, which we did, and very dangerous as the road is quite busy at times. You can't see over the brow of the hill as you pull out and cars, buses and farm vehicles come at you at speed so we always felt quite vulnerable as we were pulling out. The hot tub was lovely, however it kept tuning off after a certain time and there was still sand in the bottom from previous use. One last observation is that if you love jets then this is a brilliant property to stay in as, from Monday to Friday we constantly had Hawks and Texans flying over us. We were also lucky to be here during a military exercise so saw visiting F15's, Chinooks, F35's and A400's. Overall we had an amazing holiday, the weather was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us.

Thanks for your feedback and that you enjoyed staying at the house and your holiday. Apologies for the leaking sink in the bedroom and the length of time it took to rectify, the owners were not aware of this problem. I hope that the shower in the room was ok to use and it did not inconvienience your holiday too much. As well as the other bathroom upstairs with shower and jacuzzi bath, there is a downstairs toilet and sink. We are also in the process of providing another wetroom next to the out building next year for easilly accessible use when you return from the beach or. For Guests information, we recommend turning left out of the drive towards Trearddur bay as it is easier, and turning round at the next turning if you want to head inland towards Valley. Hopefully the reduction of the speed limit in Wales to 20mph will improve visibility and increase the time for the manoeuvre. Unfortunately, to locate a mirror opposite requires planning permmision. Glad you enjoyed the jets which train at Valley RAF base. They have the weekend off...! Property Owner

It’s a lovely house, nice conservatory off the kitchen that was warm all day, so nice to sit and look out into the garden Kitchen was well equipped for 8 people House was plenty big enough for 4 adults and 2 dogs, would be fine for 2 families to share too Shower in main bathroom would be better if it was larger as quite small for such a large bathroom garden is very big our dogs loved running round it all and they never managed to find a gap to get out of it, so we felt safe to let them run round Hot tub needs some work doing on it, the lights didn’t work and bubbles only worked for 1 cycle, but it was still nice to relax in it after walking all day The entrance on the drive is very tight, so takes some getting used to getting your car through the gap, front garden is very big, so drive could be widened to make it easy to see as your trying to drive off

  • "Lovely stay."

The house was beautifully decorated, well equipped and we loved the amount of space , which meant it wasn’t a hardship to stay indoors due to the poor weather. Loved the fact there was a whole bookcase to explore and that there were also jigsaws too, as well as some family board games. We didn’t need the dvds and the tv was enough for us as we wanted to get away from it all. It was a nice surprise to discover a room set up as an office , which meant my son was able to easily ‘work from home’ as the wifi was very good, so perhaps it’s worth mentioning that space in the details as it might help other people too. Lovely big garden for our Labrador and it was an easy walk to Trearddur Bay to give her a run on the beach or visit the Sea Shanty cafe, which was lovely. We also enjoyed the hot tub, which was checked whilst we were there. Being not far from good supermarkets and the A55 is also helpful. It might be worth mentioning in advance, rather than in the information book, that dogs are not allowed upstairs nor to be left unattended (ours isn’t anyway) but without the benefit of a stair gate the former isn’t always easy to manage. But that’s a minor quibble and we did have a lovely and relaxing time . It is a beautiful house and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • "Review for Bryngwyn Trearddur Bay."

We stayed as a family from 10th-17th September. The house itself is beautiful, with a mature and extensive back garden. Ideal for our two granddaughters and two dogs to play in. The website states the garden is enclosed, which it is apart from the gate, our small dog would have been able to get underneath it so had to be supervised at all times. Pros- Beautifully decorated Enough space for the whole family inside and out Comfortable seating (the grey sofa is wonderful!) Well equipped kitchen Comfortable beds Great location for the beach and all amenities Plenty of off-road parking Good water pressure for showers Great decking area which is beautifully lit up at night Seating area under pergola is lovely to catch the afternoon sun The tree swing went down great with our granddaughters Cons- Hot tub was dirty when we arrived and continued to pump out sand once we had complained and someone had come to clean it quickly. Hot tub was also very old and would not stay on for more than 10 minutes, it would then take 20 minutes to come back on with the jets, just felt like we were sat in a bath. No chemical treatment to clean hot tub was carried out during our week. I personally used the hot tub once during my whole stay. TV in bedroom did not work, for the price we have paid I would expect a Sky package or something similar, there was only Freeview available in the lounge and a small selection of DVD’s. As mentioned earlier garden gate needs to be more secure for smaller children and dogs, I would suggest a second gate for added security or a solid gate in place of the current one. On our second day, we lost power to the lights on one side of the house which included the kitchen, this then proceeded to bring workmen into the house for two days, ironic really as we had booked this break to get away from the building work at home. Before Menai would send workmen out, they had asked us to stand on a chair to reach the fuse box in the kitchen. I was not willing to do this, my daughter reluctantly did, and the fuse just kept blowing. Once the workmen arrived, carpets were ripped up and the dust was immense. I requested a cleaner and Menai did arrange to send one who was efficient. We are still waiting for Emily from Menai to call us back to arrange a late checkout or some form of compensation for the two-day disruption to our week break. I appreciate that these things can happen, but I feel that Menai customer service was poor. Top shelf on dishwasher was broken, cooker hood did not work. Only one towel provided for each person, so it was a good job we had taken extra for hot tub. More thorough cleaning needed throughout whole property, socks left in drawer from previous guests, dog mess in garden, dust under bed and furniture. Only one wine glass, no pyrex dish, the lid was there so clearly had been broken and not replaced, I guess this is also the story with the wine glasses. Message to the owners- Bryngwyn is a beautiful house, but could be managed so much better, I would be reluctant to book with Menai again for reasons stated.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Bryngwyn, we are glad we were able to resolve most of your issues with you during your stay. We apologise for the problems you had with the electrics which was caused by a faulty cooker extractor. If you require additional items such as wine glasses during your stay, please call Menai Holidays with your requirements . The hot tub is cleaned and refilled weekly before each stay with the required chemical additives we are sorry to hear that the tub contained some sand. With regards to your comments pertaining to the enclosed garden, we should clarify for you enclosed does not mean dog proof, it merely indicates there is an enclosed boundary. We hope to be able to welcome you back to Bryngwyn in the future. Property Owner

When we came to strip the beds as requested there was one of the double bed mattress protectors which was so badly stained. Not acceptable and had we have looked before sleeping there we would have had to request a new one. These are easily rectified issues but none the less a bit off putting

2 of the double beds mattresses were very uncomfortable. The garden had a lot of dog excrement left from previous visitors. Unfortunately the dishwasher was broken and the repair could not be done until we had left. We did get £50 back but after paying £1600 for the week I don't feel it was enough. The hot tub could do with some kind of protective roof, then it could be used even in bad weather. The mirror on the opposite side of the road does not exist and it was very tight getting in and out of the drive as it is a busy road.

The TV in the second room didn't have an aerial so no channels were available, and the set top box doesn't have wifi so no way to watch anything on that TV apart from DVDs. No radiator in the back bedroom so it can get a little chilly on cooler evenings. We did have to turn the heating up on a couple evenings but was easy enough to do. The kitchen cutlery and utensils could do with a good clean, we found old food on the potato masher and all the kitchen worktops felt "sticky". Basically needs a deep clean. No issues with the hot tub that was fantastic. Garden is huge and was big enough for our dog to have a good run around. Despite these minor niggles it's a lovely house decorated and fitted out to a high standard.

Thank you for your feedback, I am glad to hear that you liked the house and I'm so sorry to hear of the cleanliness issues you had during your stay. Please be assured these issues are now being looked into. No central heating in one bedroom so an electric heater should be provided for cooler weather like we had . We found the cleaning standard great so I assume other reviews have been acted on but be aware that there is nothing in the house and no welcome pack provided. Salt pepper & oil were the only things in the cupboard. The mirror opposite for pulling out on the road has gone so should be replaced. We had awful weather in the main so didn’t use the hot tub as it is not covered. The house itself has plenty space for 8 but the dining tables seat 4 or 8 which is very odd so more than 6 was always a squeeze.
