  • "The bathroom was quite dirty and I cleaned this before using, the plug in shower does not drain and so you end up standing in water, terrible for condensation as does not have proper ventilation, fridge not clean, food left in the oven, toaster does not hold a slice of bread (toaster too small), main plates are a dessert plate and so don’t hold a dinner."

Towels washed in very strong detergent so had to wash the before using. No where to dry clothes (terrible if a walker as we were), clothes horse but cottage was not warm. Heat did not come on as noted in book. The barn is in a stunning location and so peaceful.

Bread, milk and eggs provided to start you off, which was a nice treat. Some saucepans need replacing as the non stick coatings almost disappeared . A small non stick milk pan would have been nice too.

Thank you very much for providing us with feedback. We have now replaced the saucepans for future guests. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We had a good week walking although the local paths and stiles weren't up to much."

The very, very low ceilings made the attic bedrooms unbearably uncomfortable in the hot weather. Unfortunately for us the builders where working on the main house all week...annoying...not quite the peaceful holiday expected. The owner's apologised to us with a bottle of wine...but we do like quiet before we go out walking in a morning and after we get back...

Thank you for your feedback regarding the property. Unfortunately it is the local council responsibility to maintain footpath styles. As walkers ourselves our personal opinion having walked most of the local footpaths is they are no better or worse than any other part of the country we have walked in. Regarding the low ceilings as mentioned in previous responses to customer feedback this is clearly stated in the property description and we acknowledge the property maybe unsuitable for some. What one person will find to be quirky and cosy another may find the low ceilings unsuitable. Your stay also coincided with a confirmed heat wave which unfortunately we have no control. There are two electric fans available in the property within the wardrobe which are there for use in such weather. In terms of the builders this was unfortunate and a short term project. Building works are due to be completed in the next 4 weeks. We visited the property and asked whether the noise was disrupting as we had the ability to schedule certain works while you were out. You advised that it wasn’t causing you any issues. We encourage all guests to speak to us with any issues and we can do our best to rectify them during your stay. Property Owner

  • "The views were lovely, quite location, beds comfy pillows not so comfy some of the mugs and plates were chipped and frying pans have seen better days."

The ceilings in the bedrooms were too low for us, and the toilet downstairs too far away from one of the bedrooms if needed in the night.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We do clearly state in the property description that there are low ceilings in the bedrooms due to the design of the building, which may be unsuitable for some guests and that we have one downstairs bathroom. We try our best to ensure that all crockery and cooking equipment is replaced as frequently as needed so apologise that some items must have not caught our attention. We provide our contact details within the cottage and had we have been made aware during your stay we could have replaced for you immediately as we carry spares. All damaged crockery and cooking equipment has now been replaced. We encourage all guests to contact us during their stay should they encounter any problems and we will do our best to rectify as soon as possible. Property Owner

It was clean, modern and had everything we needed to cater for ourselves. The kids loves the outdoor space and talking to your chickens on our walks. We were grateful for the little extra touches such as the fresh bread, eggs and milk and being able to access Netflix without hassle for the kids. In terms of location it was ideally suited for our day trip to Alton Towers. We are all ready planning our next trip and will not hesitate to return to your accommodation. We wanted to leave a review in the guest book but it was already full with lovely comments. Thank you again and we'll hopefully be back soon.

The only thing we found was that it was very easy to hear any noise in the kitchen from the bedroom. Probably not a problem for most people, but we had an autistic member of our party and he wakes early and likes to whoop! Hosts were great - really friendly, helpful and responsive, but not at all intrusive.

Clean, neat & comfortable, are always a great start but the building also has charm & a little quirkiness. A huge, well equipped kitchen, a cozy lounge, a great shower & comfortable beds, everything we needed. The welcome pack of bread, milk & eggs was a lovely gesture, thank you. We had no issue with country smells & for the most part our stay was very peaceful. Normal, daytime noises, were never loud & as holidays are for exploring new places it really wouldn't have worried us what the neighbours did. The nearby market town of Leek was perfect for shopping as was Trentham shopping village (so much better than Stoke on Trent itself). The monkey gardens, also in Trentham, are small but brilliant, I'd urge everyone to visit.

Arrived to a very clean cottage, with wee welcome essentials. Hosts thought of us when was hot and stuffy and delivered some fans for use at night. Cottage is a fantastic central point for many a good family day out. It's also very remote so you can enjoy the peace and quiet of county living. Would definitely book again if down near Alton.

  • "This is a pleasant barn conversion, well equipped with everything you would need for a home away from home experience."

The quaint bedrooms with sloping ceilings were a challenge, but we eventually learned to negotiate them :O) However, this was not the idyllic escape we had envisioned after reading the previous reviews. We live next to a farm and understand necessary jobs must be performed, but the three consecutive days of muck spreading put a dampener on our visit. We could not open the doors and windows because of the smell, which in turn made the bedrooms extremely hot (with the radiators turned off) during the lovely weather we were having. So, sadly, we cut our stay short.

We are sorry to hear that you cut your planned visit short. The cottage is located in the the countryside surrounded by fields which gives it, its beautiful views and rural location. Unfortunately, the neighbouring farms are out of our control and as you have mentioned need to complete these tasks, occurring less than a handful of days per year. We are very sorry that this unfortunately happened to coincide with your stay and the nice weather. Property Owner

Farmhouse has everything you need and is a home away from home! Couldn't give anything less than 5 stars. A welcome pack of eggs, milk, bread was gratefully welcome. Kettle went straight on for a cup of tea after our drive and arrival! Furnished to a very high standard, nice outdoor patio area that was south facing. Large driveway and grassy area too. The farmhouse is located at the end of the lane and gives you highest level of privacy and peace. Our children loved the horses, sheep and chickens nearby and enjoyed feeding the horses apples in particular. Located in such a peaceful, beautiful setting we would recommend to anyone of any age group. We did Alton Towers a few days, only a 10 minute drive away. Perfect coming back, putting the fire on and settling down for a cosy evening. A walk through the village takes you to a really good, new park for children too. We've had such a lovely holiday away and look forward to coming back very soon... Hopefully try it in the summer time!
