"We had a lovely 2 day break at Spring bank cottage."
Hayfield is a sweet village with access to many walking routes. The cottage had everything we needed for the weekend. My only feedback would be is that the house could do with an internal repaint. The loft bedroom has 3 skylights. 2 had black out blinds but the one over the bed did not, waking up at sunrise is not ideal in the summer months. I noticed that feedback was mentioned a couple of years ago and i think it should be addressed. Also I personally would prefer bath towels rather than the small hand towels. With those small adjustments the cottage would have been 5 stars.
Thank you indeed for taking the time to write a review. I’m glad you had a lovely stay, I wanted to take the opportunity to respond to the issues raised. So far as paintwork, during the busy summer months I am afraid that luggage on the stairs and general use mean some knocks and marks appear that can’t always be addressed on turnaround days, but during the quieter winter period these are all dealt with as well repainting where needed.
Regarding the blind, and following comments from earlier in the summer, a replacement was ordered but there was a supply problem, the wrong type sent and now we wait for a further replacement. I should note however that the current blind that is in place is fully functional, but simply not the blackout-style which it seems that some prefer.
I would also like to clarify that each guest is provided with a standard bath towel (130x70cm) and a hand towel (85x50cm).
I hope the issues didn’t detract from your overall enjoyment, and hope that it is appreciated that we strive to provide lovely holiday accommodation at very competitive rates. I am reassured on this from the overwhelming majority of reviews we receive for Spring Bank Cottage.
Thank you again for raising these points.

"Property was very homely."
Had everything you needed and had beautiful views from the main sitting room. A real home from home. Plenty of room for the 7 of us that stayed there. Although the stairs between the levels of the house are very steep. So would be mindful of this if anyone with mobility issues or small children are considering stopping here. The only downside was parking outside of the property. It was quite a busy thin street. But we always managed to get our 2 cars parked within walking distance of the property. There were a few lovely pubs and convenience stores within easy walking distance. The property is a good base for lots of lovely walks. The mattresses were very comfortable and would love to know what kind of mattress is on the bed in the top bedroom. As my sister in law would love to purchase one as she has had the best weeks sleep she's ever had. Although don't leave the velux windows open on a night as the church bells ring through the night. Overall a lovely week

"The cottage was a perfect size for our staycation."
8 of us had plenty of room to be together in the main living room/dining area, as well as having enough room to spread out when we needed to. It was very clean, warm and fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Good location to nearby shops and a lovely view at the rear of the property. We did encounter a problem with the wifi connection but l emailed the owner and her response was quick and apologetic, which was much appreciated. She let us know it was caused by a problem in the area and it was then resolved the next day. I would recommend a stay at the cottage and would definitely stay there again.

"A lovely house."
Comfortable beds, a good amount of space for everyone. Wonderful views from the windows, beautiful walks from the door. Great communication from the owner. We will definitely come again as it was perfect for our needs. I would tell others that the stairs are quite steep and an old dog/ less able person might struggle. Our 9 year old dog did limit his visits to the basement garden because of this. Also the garden would not have been secure for a more adventurous/able dog than ours!

Wonderful walking in beautiful and varied scenery. Bridleways for mountain biking too if you're good on rocky tracks!
The house has everything you need for a family holiday.
Comfy beds, good hot showers, big utility area for sorting wet/muddy gear.
Well equipped kitchen for full self catering. Toys, games and books.
Good cafes and pubs in walking distance, well stocked village stores but also supermarkets a short drive away.

"We had a wonderful stay at Spring Bank Cottage in November 2021 - which coincided with a storm and snow!"
The heating was great and the house was cosy - we were not cold despite the frigid temperatures outside, and the living space was perfect for 5 adults. Plenty of space for walking boots in the hallway, and the 2 bathrooms had plenty of hot water for showers after freezing hikes in the hills. We didn't use the room on the lower ground floor, but can see how that would be wonderful in the summer or if you have kids. The parking wasn't a problem - we had 2 cars and always found a space on the road, even if it wasn't right outside the doors.
We'd definitely book again for a friend's hiking trip. It was the perfect location.

We're delighted you really enjoyed your stay, and thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Pending a more thorough investigation of the TV reception, it has been re-tuned and is now receiving BBC. The oven is checked regularly, but may be different from the one you have at home. The children especially loved playing in the downstairs basement room that opened out into the garden.
The village is very picturesque with a stream running through and plenty of hungry ducks to feed and there's a good children's playground within easy walking distance. We had some nice days out and some of our group had a good walk up Kinder Scout. "Well equipped cottage in village with lots of facilities."
Lovely to sit on the balcony or garden and watch the cricket. Appreciated the toys, books and generous provision of cleaning materials etc.
One warning, as there are four floors there are three quite steep staircases - we didn’t feel it safe to let the 2-year old go up and down on her own. One stair gate is provided and we took another, so managed ok, but do bear this in mind if you have more young children than adults

There are lots of lovely walks you can do direct from the front door, including to Kinder Scout and Reservoir. It's also a good base for other walks in the area, including to Mam Tor and Castleton and cycling around Derwent Water. Hayfield is a great base - some lovely pubs, a butcher, post office and a fish and ship shop! All you need on your doorstep. The house itself is within easy walking distancce of the all the above. It overlooks the village cricket ground at the back, which provides an additional sense of space. It is nicely furbished with all modcons. The owners were very helpful. We visited in April.
