  • "The place was really clean and clear instructions were provided."

We found it useful that the thermostat can be managed manually so the cottage was kept warm. The one issue we had was the ventilation fan in the shared bathroom was not working so the smell and condensation of the toilet was not great. Maybe the fan needs fixing. Otherwise our stay was good. Very interesting decorations.

From here, venture over to the well-known historical landmark of Nine Ladies Stone Circle, of which your holiday home was named after, where you will find a fascinating circle of up-right stones spanning back to the Bronze Age, frequented by walkers and tourists, as well as druids and pagans who celebrate summer solstice there.

BIRCHOVER

Winster 1.3 miles; Bakewell 5.4 miles; Matlock 5.5 miles.

The picturesque gritstone village of Birchover is believed to once have been used by Druids as a ceremonial worship site. There’s a rock formation called Rowter Rocks, with caves and carvings, prehistoric monuments and stone circles, including The Nine Ladies up above the village on Stanton Moor. At Robin Hood's Stride and Cratcliffe Tor, a medieval hermit's cave can be explored. Just 5 miles away, the popular town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, has been attracting visitors to the area since the spa was developed in the late 17th century. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent, the Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham.
In the opposite direction is the market town of Bakewell, and a little further beyond lies Chatsworth House and Park. With walking and cycling to suit all abilities, thriving villages and some wonderful scenery to enjoy, this part of the Peaks is sure to tempt you back time and again.
