  • "A fabulous location with just a short 15 minute walk into Ironbridge."

The cottage has been renovated to a high standard throughout and provides the perfect base for exploring Shropshire. We did find that the description of the property was not entirely accurate. It says that there is a wood burning stove, which there is, but it is not connected. It has no flue and is still mounted to the pallet it was delivered on. It would not be safe to light this until it has been correctly installed and feel it should be taken off the description until this has happened as it was one of the reasons we booked the cottage. It should also be mentioned that the patio is at the front of the cottage and not a private one at the back in the description and not just the bullet points. Parking is a bonus but feel that for people with any sort of mobility issues it should be noted that it is down a hill and a cross a road from the cottage. The stairs are narrow and steep so it can be difficult to get a suitcase up and down the stairs even at the age of 44. Just thinking of health and safety for future visitors that may have not been considered. We also feel that if you offer shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in dispensers these should be filled up. Two were empty when we arrived and whilst the shower is beautiful there is nowhere to put any of your own products except on the floor. The bedroom is very nicely decorated but both my partner and I struggled with the height of the bed and bed frame. It was too high for us and meant that it was hard to get in and out of and difficult to sit or perch on the edge as you would do at home. I think the cottage would benefit from a ‘Welcome’ folder. There were some leaflets for the local area and a framed ‘Welcome’ sign but nothing that tells you where to empty the kitchen bin to, nothing that says that after a shower please keep the extractor fan on and the door closed because the heat and steam will set off the fire alarm, (which happened several times before we realised what was causing it), the nearest place for a mobile phone signal in case of emergencies, local dr’s and dentists and the fact that there is no ‘live’ TV signal at the property. Lots of things which may not affect your stay if only visiting for a long weekend but we stayed for a week and so were noticing things that others may not. All things mentioned are observations as we aren’t sure how long the property has been a holiday home for.

  • "Very impressed with our stay at No."

    4. A lovely little cottage in a small village close to the Ironbridge Gorge museums. Facilities were great and the bathroom was newly renovated. The property was clean. We struggled initially to find the parking despite clear instructions from the owner. A travel cot was listed as being available but this wasn’t and the issue was swiftly dealt with by both the owner and Sykes Cottages so I really appreciate this.

  • "No 4 was a gorgeous cottage and we loved our stay."

I had done a "chat" with Nicola before booking and requested a travel cot and highchair. However these weren't in the cottage. Fortunately my daughter had brought a travel cot just in case, as you can imagine if we has relied on rhe booking it would have been a disaster with a 17 month old. It would have also been so much easier at mealtimes with a highchair. Another slight issue was the fact that there was absolutely no phone signal so were concerned at how a Dr or hospital could have been contacted if it was needed

  • "Probably the tiniest cottage we have stayed in but beautifully refurbished, spotlessly clean, comfortable furnishings, well equipped kitchen and brilliant shower."

We took camping chairs to sit out as it was very warm but found the road a little too noisy although it didn't disturb indoors. No instructions for rubbish or contact from the owner. Easy, safe walk into lovely Ironbridge and no problem parking near the cottage. Would stay again if price was right.

  • "Stairs and door height ought to be noted as they could be a problem for some people."

Kitchen well equipped, nice walk in shower. Comfortable bed.

  • "Lovely little cottage well equipped & beautifully presented."

Very comfortable bed. It is however very small with some low ceilings & the stairs are very narrow & steep - not suitable for everyone. Unfortunately we had a few issues with the hot water - despite it being a combi boiler system whilst the water was hot enough in the sinks it was only lukewarm in the powerful shower. Someone was sent out to sort it but it didn’t make a noticeable difference. It was a real shame as everything else was of such a high standard.

  • "Super little cottage, owner has thoughtfully provided so much."

Cottage very clean, bed comfortable, everywhere tastefully furnished. Very impressed with Coalbrookdale, great walks and sights of interest. Very friendly local pub. The Furnace cafe worth a visit.

  • "The cottage is lovely and quaint."

It was clean and tidy and in a great location. However, one of the main reasons for us booking it was the listed Wood Burner which turned out not to be working when we arrived (the listing had been edited to say this was not ready until 2024 after we had booked). The water heating was also too temperamental, having to try and get the tap in the perfect position to get any hot water at all; this to me is a basic that should be sorted. Finally, the wifi is shared between several cottages which makes it largely unusable with a poor connection and constant buffering. This is also unacceptable given the price paid for the stay. All issues were mentioned to the owners, but it didn’t seem they were too keen on resolving them to be honest, maybe given the time of year that we visited.

  • "A beautiful cottage in a gorgeous place."

We spent four nights here with our Jack Russell, Oscar and it was cosy and comfortable, with everything you need. The only thing was the internet connection and Wi-Fi were on and off unreliable, and this meant the smart tv, which was very hard to set up, and you couldn’t get normal tv, was very hard to watch as the iplayer kept stopping. Ended up giving up, which was nice to turn off electronic devices for a while I suppose. Overall, I would definitely recommend though

  • "Designated parking space for location was unclear (possible signage to be displayed)."

Managed to park on School Lane, not an issue. Did not take away from a very enjoyable break. Lovely cottage, clean and homely atmosphere. Nice walk to Ironbridge. Well lit, hard standing path all the way. Friendly local pub, The Swan located 10-15 minute from cottage (Ironbridge). Very friendly staff and lovely food and drink.

  • "We were changed to number 6 which was very similar due to the wifi not working at number 4 but the property owner was very good and informed us before we arrived and asked if we would like to move to number 6."

The property was beautifully done and was very well equipped. Would definitely go again if we were staying in Coalbrookdale.

About the location

IRONBRIDGE

Telford 6 miles; Bridgnorth 8.5 miles; Shrewsbury 15 miles.

Ironbridge Gorge is known throughout the world as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Today the area is far from industrial and nature has reclaimed most of the former industrial sites, leaving a unique and beautiful wooded valley. The gorge is a now a maze of footpaths, bridleways and country lanes whilst the delightful village is famous for being home of the world's first iron-built bridge, built between 1777-79. The village has a splendid variety of pubs, restaurants, shops and tea rooms and a collection of ten industrial and Victorian themed museums makes up the Ironbridge Museums Trust, including the exciting Blists Hill Victorian Village. Within driving distance are the popular historical towns of Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Ludlow, as well as the Wroxeter Roman City, the Severn valley Railway, the RAF Cosford Museum and many National Trust properties. Ironbridge is a wonderful base from which to explore the beautiful county of Shropshire.
