  The village is lovely, lots of walks, the dogs loved it, The Bulls Head and Ye Olde Nags Head did lovely food, Unfortunately one of the dogs discovered that there were cats in the garden next door and cleared the wall to chase, only did it once, Other than that a lovely stay,

• "Extremely well presented and clean property set in the heart of the Peak District."

  Clearly refurbished to a high standard containing essentials such as washing machine, two bathrooms and full compliment of kitchen equipment. The owners have thought of everything, even down to branded umbrellas upon exit and outside hose to clean the dog following another great walk. Superb quiet location in a busy village right on the doorstep of wonderful walk after wonderful walk. It was a pleasure to stay at Brookhouse which should be the benchmark for all other rental standards.

• "Beautiful clean, comfortable, well equipped cottage in wonderful location."

  Thoughtful welcome hamper, much appreciated. Great quality bed linens, towels and toiletries. Useful information folders. Parking was tight and tricky but manageable with a small car…our Kona just fit. We had a Tesco delivery which was great, be mindful of small fridge with freezer compartment. Amazing selection of casserole dishes which was great, but maybe could be reduced to give a bit more space in the cupboards, and a small pan would be handy. Cottage might be a bit tight for 6 adults, and first floor bath/shower has limited height…was just ok for us and my over 6’ son and partner were ok in the beautiful loft bedroom. We enjoyed a wonderful week’s holiday at Brookhouse with lots of great walks from the door and from Ladybower reservoir a short drive away. Thanks to the owners who have done a great job updating this lovely old cottage.

• "Loved the house and it was very well equipped."

  A few maintenance issues which we raised with the owners and they took on board for rectification. Parking space was fine for our small car (Mini) but it was tight. We enjoyed the front garden as we were lucky with the weather but it wasn’t secure enough for our adventurous dog who tried to jump the low wall. Thank you for the welcome hamper which was a really nice touch. The house and Castleton is a fantastic base for a holiday!

  The location was really unbeatable, just a couple of minutes walk to all of the amenities in Castleton, as well as close enough to stunning scenery that we walked up Mam Tor from the door. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

• "This is a lovely cottage in the magical village of Castleton which I have regularly visited since my parents moved to the Hope Valley village of Froggatt in 1980 where they remained for nearly 25 years."

  Brookhouse is fitted out to a very high standard. The kitchen is narrow but very well designed with plenty of cupboard space. The two bathrooms are modern and easy to use. The cottage was comfortable and warm - there were six of us (plus one dog) and we found plenty of room with the only slight exception is that the double bed in the middle floor would ideally have been wider although the width of room would make this difficult. Castleton is a wonderful village and its location is such that there are fabulous walks without having to take a car. We went ip Mam Tor twice and walked the ridge to Lose Hill. In the evenings, we enjoyed the excellent Castleton hostelries - though gutted we did not quite manage to win the Sunday quiz in the Cheshire Cheese. All in all, a lovely family (2 brothers of mature age, their wives and a daughter each) break. Thank you!

• "Overall we had a great time in a great property - the kitchen is so well equipped you’ll not go without anything - great for catering with the grandparents and kids!"

  Heating and hot water spot on and cleanliness impeccable. We loved the high standard of the bedding and towels - made it feel like staying in a special hotel! I’ve only marked comfort down by one as we felt that given the space available in the second bedroom, it would benefit from a king size bed - having spent the last 30 plus years in a king size it was uncomfortable to go back to a double for a week. Thanks for a great stay!

  The house is in the perfect location in the village and close to lots of stunning walks. We are a family of 5 adults and we were delighted by the house. Every detail has been considered, It was spacious but cosy and fantastically equipped with everything we needed - even the umbrellas ! • "The property is beautiful and well-loved with everything we needed for a good holiday in castleton."

  A big of a tardis, bigger inside than outside. It was very comfortable, the welcome hamper very generous, and we loved the toiletries enough to consider ordering some. We got used to the intrusive roof truss in the bedroom and difficult parking, and had a great holiday.

• "We had a lovely stay and the standard was very high spec."

  The only niggle was as we are a couple in our 70's. We found the settee and chair very low and difficult to get out of. But this did not only apply to us. Our young family who came with us also found after awhile the settee and chair sank very low. The beds where amazing and it was great to sit outside for meals.

  Cooking was easy with every required gadget available. The low beam in the top bedroom was at first a concern but was easy to negotiate and became an interesting feature in a lovely room - every window had a stunning view ! • "We had a fantastic holiday at Brookhouse."

  The cottage is beautifully equipped and furnished and no expense has been spared. We were lucky enough to have some sunshine and enjoyed sitting out on the sun terrace for breakfast. We also loved the surroundings - Castleton is gorgeous with fantastic walks and pubs on the doorstep. The owners are friendly and helpful and our family of 4 plus golden retriever all had a great time!

  One of the best places we have stayed in for comfort, cleanliness and facilities. Very tastefully presented too. So lovely to have the Welcome Hamper with the delicious Brack cake and our dog was very happy with the treats! It was great to be able to walk straight out the front door into the Peaks. The only downside is the parking but at least there is somewhere to park.

• "This was a lovely cottage with fantastic facilities & definitely the best dog friendly cottage we have ever stayed in - it can be very difficult to find a cottage of such a high standard where we can also bring our dogs so we really appreciated this - thankyou."

  The towels were lovely & smelled beautiful, the freshly baked brack cake was delicious & the kitchen was superbly equipped with high end utensils. Literally the only suggestions we would make would be to provide some espresso cups to go with the lovely Nespresso machine & maybe consider painting a white line along the edge of the steps which would make parking the car in the dark a little easier. We have booked Brook House again later in the year - a no brainer for more Peak District walking.

  Was like home from home. Fantastically well equipped cottage especially kitchen with all sorts cooking pans/trays/utensils etc. bedrooms lovely furnished & comfortable beds & nice big soft towels. • "Brook House is an extremely well situated cottage in the heart of Castleton; near to eateries, village stores and local attractions i."

  E. Peveril Castle, Mam Tor, caverns and miles of walking from the doorstep. The cottage is very well appointed and comfortable too. Only thing to be aware of is the very low beam in the largest bedroom on the top floor and limited parking; though you are made aware of this by the owners. May need to consider the flights of stairs and bench seating at dining table. (This is seen in cottage photos.) We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend Brook House if you like a cottage to be homely with well considered furnishings, appliances and accommodating owners. For us a five star cottage. • "I have stayed in a number of cottages in Castleton over the years and all of them have been very nice with nothing to complain about."

  This is the best out of all of them. Very clean, plenty of room, good facilities and the most comfortable bed that I have ever slept in. Castleton has plenty of pubs, cafes and small shops, but is a small place, so the cottage is close to all of them. I can't say anything bad about this cottage.

• "The situation of the cottage was ideal."

  All you needed was available in the cottage. I recommend you advise visitors the length of the parking bay as our zaphira only just fitted the space. Bit scarey parking each day! • "Fantastic cottage, comfortable and clean with every essential piece of equipment and more."

  First class location for visiting all the attractions in the Peak District. However, be warned that the cottage can only safely park one car and it is extremely difficult to find suitable parking for any other. The public car park is only a few hundred yards away and will cost £7 for an overnight stay. We managed to park by the church.

  Well equipped property. Everything you could possibly need is there and then some! The quality of everything in the.cottage is clear to see and it was.immaculately clean. The location is great. Just steps away from all the great facilities.Carleton has to offer yet tucked away so it's nice and.private and quiet.Parking is a bit of a challenge and only one fairly small car will fit in the space but you can park on the street in a.lot of Castleton - try down the side.of The Nags Head. We found it.more.convenient however to park in the car park where the tourist office is. £7 for a.24 your period so quite reasonable but make sure you have change as the.machines don't take cards. And if you use the access by walking to the right when you leave the house it's about 50 yards away! We had a great time in what is a wonderful part of the country and would.certainly recommend this beautiful.property.

• "The cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished and probably the best equipped that we've ever stayed in."

  The owners have thought of everything and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect for walking and we did a couple of great walks straight from the front door. I'd recommend Brookhouse to anybody without hesitation.
