  • "Jane and Marshall are very warm and welcoming, the cottage was very clean, comfortable, well equipped and maintained."

The location of the cottage was perfect the views from the cottage are of outstanding beauty. We had problems with knowing how to use the PlayStation as a dvd player, one quick message to Jane and Marshall came and showed us how to use it. Unfortunately the weather was not the best, this did not stop us from enjoying the beauty of Yorkshire. We give a 100% score to Jane and Marshall.

This is a fabulous holiday cottage with all the necessary amenities and more, and has wonderful outdoor space too. There is a superb kitchen, which is very well equipped, an enormous upstairs lounge and a great pool room which our boys loved. During our stay, we visited lots of lovely local places - don't miss the Magic Cafe on the Trans Pennine Trail and an ice cream at Yummy Yorkshire (thank you Jane for these great recommendations!), and also the Ladybower Reservoir where one of the huge plugholes was used in the filming of Mission Impossible Rogue Nation! We would highly recommend a stay at Bullace Barn and hope to be able to return ourselves sometime soon.

Beautiful cottage, well equipped and the huge enclosed garden is ideal for little ones and dogs. Jane was so helpful and lovely, was always on hand to answer any questions we had. And gave some great suggestions for days out. We visited Cannon Hall Farm and Yummy Yorkshire (Jane’s suggestions). So glad we did these. We also went to Bakewell and Heights of Abraham, well worth the visit. There are plenty supermarkets, a Tesco, Aldi and Lidl. And Fox Valley Retail Park is only a 10 min drive and has every you need. We will be 100% be returning next year. Thank you so much Jane for looking after us.

  • "We have just returned from a three night stay at this truly amazing barn."

We booked to stay here as we were attending our daughter’s wedding, who lives in nearby Holmfirth, and we were not disappointed ! From arriving at the property where Jane was around to greet us and Marshall her husband who was busy attending to the out side space it was truly magical. The property was extremely clean and had everything you could possibly need to ensure a great stay. The outside space, which we thought was delightful, we never got to use due to the weather on two of the days and the one day which was dry, was the wedding day, where the barn was buzzing with the bride and her bridal party all getting ready, where the time disappeared on us. The space included was a private fenced seating area which lead around the property where horses could be seen wandering around, along with three friendly chickens, a large grass area where families could run around safely and a wonderful decked raised area, again with seating for 8, a fire pit and bbq if needed. Our grandchildren did explore the secret fairy garden, which was a lovely find. All in all we cannot recommend this property enough, and we will definitely be booking again.

  • "This was not our first stay at Bullace Barn, nor will it be out last."

The house is faultlessly clean through, tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped for self catering. On our most recent stay we had 3 under two year olds, the house is very family friendly with stair gates, travel cots, which fit in all three bedrooms and highchairs. Jane (the host) is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable of the local area and what there is to do for all ages. The Northern edge of the Peak District has a lot to offer and she knows exactly what direction to send you in. I'd certainly rate the entire stay as five star, if there were more stars available I'd give those too!

We found it a perfect location to have a trip into the Peaks for a walk (we went to Derwent Edge). We also went to Cannon Hall Farm which we would recommend - loads for kids to do we particularly enjoyed the ferret and sheep races! We all loved the surroundings of the accommodation - very peaceful and plenty of outside space to enjoy. The children loved the fairy garden and seeing the horses and chickens, and in the evenings we relaxed in the barn and played pool. We would love to come back. A fabulous weekend - thank you!!

The perfect place to spend Easter, and the perfect first holiday away as a family. From the moment we arrived at Bullace Barn we felt at home, the house had everything we could possibly need. Full of Lots of character, spacious, well maintained well equipped. It was lovely having the utility room, and the kitchen was a dream. The children and I enjoyed Easter baking during our stay it was a treat to use the kitchen Island. The pool room in particular was a lovely touch for the boys! Such a gorgeous open space. Lovely art work up on the walls and beautiful views from the windows. The children loved watching the chickens from the kitchen window in the mornings. Jane and Marshall we're so friendly and welcoming! On arrival we received a lovely welcome hamper, inc Easter eggs for the children. Jane and Marshall had also set up the private Island for Easter during our stay. The perfect Island for an Easter Egg Hunt for the Children. We loved seeing the horses everyday, the chickens and the owners very friendly dogs. Marshall kindly allowed our children aged 2 and 6 to check for fresh eggs while we we're there, creating these memories on their first holiday was everything and more. I only wish we we're coming back in the summer to enjoy the fire pit and garden games we had access to. While here we planned to visit Derwent Edge again and wanted to be close so this was the perfect location for us. It is also situated directly next to the Trans Pennine Trail also a lovely walk. We particularly enjoyed the walk at langsett on our last day, ending with a meal at Ye Olde Mustard Pot in Midhopestones highly recommend! Thank you so Much Jane and Marshall for creating a beautiful home for families to come and stay! We look forward to seeing you again soon! We already miss it.

  • "Bullace Barn was the perfect holiday home for our stay."

It was clean and very comfortable, and despite having a lot of character there were plenty of amenities. Jane made sure we were fully prepared for our stay and was more than happy to help us with local food, shopping and walking recommendations and providing additional equipment (like a rolling pin for our pizza dough!), but equally she was happy to leave us to enjoy our stay in private. The house itself is situated directly next to the Trans Pennine Trail, which we enjoyed exploring on one of our days. We found the trail very well maintained, allowing us to take in the local scenery at a leisurely pace. Aside from this, we made the most out of the facilities in Bullace Barn such as the pool table and modern kitchen. One word of advice is to bring some slippers as the stone floors in the pool/games room are beautiful but also quite cold on your feet! We will definitely be visiting Bullace Barn in the future, thank you Jane for making our stay so memorable!

We were held up a little on the journey so our Tesco food delivery arrived before us but Jane and her husband took delivery of it and put freezer items away etc. Much appreciated. The countryside is wonderful, great walks nearby, but the house is lovely to be in too so it suited us all. If you're planning on cooking, bring what you need, including herbs, flour, oil etc. In some holiday cottages there are here left-over items from previous visitors, but not here. The kitchen is so well equipped, every utensil possible was available with lots of room for everyone to sit and chat together. The large boot room/dog room was perfect for muddy wellies and paws. The pool table was a huge hit with everyone. The use of an enclosed dog exercise area/garden/decked area was a huge bonus, if only the weather had been glorious the whole weekend, we would have used this so much more, sitting in the sunshine listening to the babbling brook behind us. The owners are in the next property which is 20ft away, with the feeling of being watched. Small garden, not big enough for my dog. Kitchen floor had dog hairs from previous visitors, oven did not heat up properly. Pane of glass missing from utillity room door. Wardrobe door had come off runner. After leaving the property, i was informed that there were a mark on bed cover, which they charged a fee of over £35 to clean, which i presumed would be cleaned after our stay anyway! ontop of that, they accused us of scratching the bathroom door, with another £150 for repair! Will not be booking again!!!

Thank you for the lovely review you left in the visitors book, however your online review was a polar opposite and was clearly written upon receiving the charge for cleaning and repair work. The downstairs pool room and shower room had just been redecorated so we were disappointed to find multiple scratches on the door leading into the bedroom and bathroom.  You were separately charged for one sheet and two quilt covers being washed and ironed due to a dog being in the downstairs bedrooms. T&C clearly state if dogs go into or sleep in the bedrooms the linen will be separately washed and a charge made, this is not included in the rental.   May I point out that our house does NOT FACE the holiday let and your privacy is one of our main considerations. Sykes Holiday cottages come out and view all cottages and then construct their narrative based on what they see, so they are unbiased and portrayed accurately. This write up clearly states that the farm is a 10 acre plot and owners live on site.   The Barn is supplied with blinds and curtains at every, window for your privacy should it be required. The side garden has very high fencing to give guests privacy and security for their dogs. Please note there are multiple dog walking areas along the river bank, island and decking area for your private use.   We say to all our guests upon arrival to ask for any help/assistance to make their stay the best it possibly can. Your comments regarding the oven and wardrobe are NO good once you have left.   The property is thoroughly cleaned and inspected before every guest arrives. Our 100% record speak for itself. No-one is perfect and we apologise unreservedly if standards were not to your liking during your visit.   We are constantly making improvements at Bullace Barn and we welcome constructive reviews so we can act upon them. We only are four star and priced accordingly but we have five star bedding, towels, furniture, kitchen equipment and overall decor. Property Owner

We enjoyed the exceptional space inside and the fabulous garden area outside, and the wood. It is so peaceful, and you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but are actually just a short drive away from beautiful walks, activities and places to eat out, or get a takeaway. We had a wide age range and it suited us all. We will definitely return.

She gave us the confidence to relax in the Hoilday home and to contact her about anything else during our stay. Her recommendations were excellent. The converted barn was spacious, well furnished and everything was to a high standard. The children loved the Fairy Island and the horses stabled in the working barn. All of the grounds were immaculate and the access to the barbecue area with its own seating and large lawn was really appreciated. Marshall England, informed us that the strawberries were ripe and to hel ourselves. A great holiday and excellent hosts.

  • "What a fantastic cottage, really pleased with this find!"

We have two boys aged 10 & 12, and we had a wonderful week. The house itself was absolutely spotless with very good COVID precautions, and had everything we needed. The beds are all really comfy, the house nice and warm with plenty of hot water whenever wanted. There's a private island for guests exclusive use, and we had a campfire there most evenings. The pool table was great too, for the few evenings we weren't outside. The whole property was brilliant for our lads. The house is set in large grounds, and all three outside seating areas (patio, garden and island) were exclusive for our use; we felt very safe with lots of space and the owners have really thought about what precautions to take to make guests comfortable and COVID secure. The house was lovely and peaceful, but close enough to the road and village for everything to be easily accessible. The walks from Langsett Reservoir just over the hill were perfect for us, and it only takes about 45 mins to get right out into the middle of the Peaks. We'd definitely recommend an ice cream from the Yummy Yorkshire parlour too!

We had everything we needed including a travel cot, high chair, dog crates, WiFi, and plenty of hot water. The pool room was an added bonus. With a year old baby the whole house was safe for him to explore, lots of places to practice his walking! The level of cleanliness was impressive throughout, the beds are so comfy and the upstairs living room was huge with lots of sofas, a TV and PlayStation. There was even a basket of toys and books for children. However it is the friendliness of the owners that make this place over and above most holiday lets, nothing was a problem, Jane was there when we arrived and was a fountain of knowledge for the local area, where to walk with the dogs and recommended a great traditional pub for Sunday lunch Would highly recommend Bullace Barn!

  • "This property is just great."

Very modern and well appointed, and for a party of 6 adults, 1 child, 1 infant and 2 dogs, we had room enough for everyone, and then some. The pool table was the icing on the cake that kept the little one occupied for hours. The owners' live next door but did not impose and you could tell straight away that they had made the property as covid-safe as possible, with lots and lots of cleaning materials and sanitiser about. The stone flagged utility was great for muddy boots and wet dogs (and wet people). The "fairy" island on the property was a lovely spot for the kids and a wild BBQ (if we had the weather) and there was plenty of room for the dogs, though a lead is essential given the numerous horses on-site. On the doorstep are 2 good walks (at least). One to Penistone via the Millenium Bridge and the Upper Don Trail, the other walk can be picked up to right hand side of the Blacksmith's arms. The Hunstman is another walkable pub (Thurlstone) that at the time of writing, had lots of different ales and served food on a Tuesday and Sunday.

The Barn is immaculate and Jane the owner was great to deal with, both before we arrived over the phone and while we were there. The kitchen is superb with everything you could need. It’s in a lovely spot but just a short walk to the local pub. We went to the Greyhound racing track one evening in Sheffield which was a 20 minute drive away via taxi as well as visiting the vineyard at Holmfirth and the Derwent Dam which the “Dambusters” used as training practice in the Second World War. We are at a couple of super local pubs and the pool table in the barn was great to play on while we relaxed. The local Indian restaurant in Penistone was excellent. We stay in cottages and barn accommodation several times per year and this was one of the best we have stayed in. The attention to detail to make sure your experience was first class was great. I will definitely be returning with my wife and children for years to come as it was the best trip away I've had in years. The barn was very clean and tidy and warm and welcoming and there is really nothing I could possibly complain about as everything was as good and more than expected. The beds were extremely comfortable( I now need to find out what mattress I was sleeping on, and buy one for my own bed) and the bathrooms with shower were exceptional. Plenty of towels were left in each room for us and even little shampoos and hair caps which just added a little sweet touch. The surrounding area around the barn was beautiful and scenery was stunning with views of hills and horses and gorgeous sunrise and sunset. The pub ( Blacksmiths Arms) was really cosy and warm with a open fire, good beer and lovely staff only a 3 minute walk away.
