"Lovely cosy cottage, everything was as described and even with storm Durragh , the perfect place to take refuge"
-
"I had another lovely stay at the cottage."
Everything I needed was there for me and my dog. Lois, the owner, is very friendly and on hand in case you have any questions or problems. Although the cottage is down a small lane, it's kept accessible even through the snow that came down one night during my stay. The cottage could be kept lovely and warm, and I used the log burner with the logs provided. I'd be happy to go back again.
-
"Was a lovely stay at Church Farm Cottage."
It was clean and the storage heaters warm up very fast so was extremely cozy. Was lovely and peaceful and no one bothered us during our stay. Really helpful information and instructions given.
-
"Cottage had all we needed for day to day things , the double bedroom is small and as being an amputee i struggled , but overall we managed , place went up for sale while we were there so will be interesting to see what the new owners do with the property ."
.BUT if you want somewhere as a base and you have dogs then ideal as walks straight outside the door plus the secure enclosed rear garden was perfect ... Had the bedroom been bigger we would definitely go back ....

"Lovely cosy cottage, had everything we needed for a lovely weeks break."
The area was fabulous for walking, weather wasn’t so good but we managed to get out every day somewhere different. Very quiet and peaceful and our dog was really happy there. The owners were very kind, friendly and helpful, to the point of saving me a 2 mile walk! Thank you! Well worth a visit to this comfy cottage and lovely area.
-
"Really friendly owner, helpful local advice."
Lovely bijou place ideal for one woman and her dog. Shame British Summer failed to appear which meant drying clothes rather difficult between walks.
-

"We had a great time at the Orchard."
Very conveniently located, everything we needed was provided except for towels which we hadn't realised. Lovely walk nearby that our dog enjoyed and 3 beautiful horses in the stables.
-
"No welcome pack!"
The cottage was clean, tidy, well appointed and met the requirements. Helpful owners. Nice location. Out of date information pack. The local pub has closed.
-
"Lovely cottage and the owners (and their dogs) are really friendly."
Had everything we need for a week with 2 dogs. The cottage is really handy for walks straight out the cottage door and by car on the Tissington & High Peak Trails. Ashbourne is only a 5 mins drive away and has lovely shops and dog friendly cafes. This is my third time of visiting and would like to go back.
-
"We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back."
The secure garden was actually beagle proof, which was amazing. Felt comfortable with our dogs. There were lovely walks directly from the cottage. Cottage had everything you would need and was very clean.

-
"This is such a fantastic, cosy cottage and we had an amazing short break here."
It was lovely and warm, clean and in a peaceful location. It was great for the dogs as there are public bridleways and public footpaths very close by and the garden is fully enclosed so they could go outside without us having to worry about them getting out. The owner was lovely and made sure we had all of the info we needed. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.

"The website doesn’t do justice to this little diamond of a cottage."
We could not have been made to feel more welcome. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and it was just PERFECT for the three of us and our two dogs. Gardens were very secure and we had everything we needed to clean them up after our long, very wet and muddy walks. Loved the little Laundry Room to wash and dry all our outdoor stuff too! Felt as if we were right out in the middle of the countryside, yet Ashbourne was only a very short drive away. The cottage could not have been cosier with its very efficient heating and log burner which made it even more pleasant to get “home” after our walks…. We didn’t really even notice that it hadn’t actually stopped raining at all on two of our five days there! Thank you for sharing your gem of a cottage!
-
"Very helpful friendly owners."
Set away from roads so peaceful. Can't fault the place would have stayed longer if it was free. Loved it. Would stay again if possible
-
"Friendly owners of lovely cottage."
Warm, clean and comfy for a wet weekend in Peak District. Dogs made very welcome and had space to run in enclosed garden. Would highly recommend
-
"We loved it here we took our 2 basset hounds who loved the horses ."
.. Lots of lovely walks ...cottage was cosy everything we needed was there and the owners were very accomodating and lovely Ashbourn was 5mins away as was shops and pubs ... Great place to get away from hustle n bustle of the town
-
"Cottage was perfect for a week away with 2 dogs."
They loved the easy access to the fields and having our own safe garden was a bonus. The cottage was well equipped with comfy sofas and large dining table (especially good if you are doing a jigsaw at one end!). Amazing walks all about 20 mins away.
-
"Lovely relaxing stay, perfect for dogs."
Not to far to visit places of interest.
-
"Orchard Cottage was perfect for us and our two dogs."
Cottage had everything you would need. Perfect for touring the southern Peak District. The patio was lovely to sit out in, and the additional secure shared garden (with the other holiday cottage) was a huge bonus. Lovely walks with the dogs up to a disused airfield, along with additional fields on the farm. Owner was friendly, but let us get on with our stay. Definitely somewhere to return to.

"Cute, well equipped cottage Quite pretty area Bed a little uncomfortable"

"We, and our two dogs, thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Orchard cottage at Church Farm."
Last September we stayed in the adjoining cottage and, once again, we received a warm welcome when we arrived. The property was ideal for our stay, it was clean, a very good size with a large kitchen/dining area and had all the necessary facilities for us to stay in, if the weather was bad. Luckily we had good weather and were able to make good use of the surrounding fields to walk the dogs. A great benefit are the ‘private’ gardens, one at the rear of each cottage, that are separated from a larger garden area which is ideal for the dogs to be able to have some freedom. The cottage is ideally situated just a short drive from Ashbourne which has all the necessary shops and some very good, dog friendly, pubs/restaurants. There are also some really good walks and places to visit close by being ideal to explore the South Peaks. We will certainly be visiting again in the future.

Everywhere was really clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The cottage is really accessible to Ashbourne which has many dog friendly cafes, and lovely dog walks.

Lovely setting and the owner was very nice. Would certainly go back.
-
"A brilliant location for those on holidays with their pooches."
Close to many national trust dog friendly locations and pubs. The outside private garden was brilliant for a greyhound wanting to run like the wind. A must for dog owners
-
"Would certainly recommend it Stopped at this cottage for a great week in November for a week to use a base for hiking."
Description spot on, small village with pub a few mins walk away -not sure if it is open all week, a church and little else Only 15 mins from Ashbourne which has everything Property has a few horses lots of ducks and 1 peacock and is set in a courtyard. It also has a small fenced off area for the dog and is away from the road Dont forget to bring your own towels - and no welcome provisions provided so bring your own tea /coffee /milk etc Would certainly recommend it
-
"Lovely warm and comfortable cottage ideal for Autumn and Winter use."
Friendly owners
-
"Lovely cottage, nice enclosed garden for the dogs."
Great pub a few yards away and another good pub in Osmaston. Close to many places to visit, although as it was so hot we were unable to go out much, not fair on the dogs. Will definitely stay again.
-
"This property is listed as a cottage as being on an equestrian centre, which was the sole reason we booked it."
This is inaccurate.. The family apparently have a couple of horses and other animals, and that is it. The cottage is well situated to explore the county, but is totally unsuitable for elderly people with walking disabilities, and this should be emphasised on the cottage advert, as the front entrance has a high step, and to enter the kitchen there are three steps down and to go out into the rear lawn garden it is not only narrow but the lawn is sloped and was difficult to find a level patch to put our folding chairs. The cottage is well kitted out and comfortable, The TV definitely needs replacing with a larger model. We met Lois on our arrival, who was most welcoming. We did ask Lois about the equestrian centre on our arrival, and she informed us is wasn't one there were a couple of horses etc.. In conclusion we must say the cottage is ideally situated as a base to enjoy the surrounding county area, and we were blessed with good weather and choice of eateries.
-
"We've just come back from a lovely week in Orchard Cottage with our 8 year old son and 2 greyhounds."
Our son wanted to move in permanently. Lois was so welcoming and helpful in recommending great days out and the cottage was very well equipped with a very secure private garden at the rear, where the dogs could sit safely. Great dog walking from the door - no need to even get in the car for early morning dog walks.
-
"TV could be a slight biger as had hard job to read channels and reading information about what was on the TV that is all ."
Great holiday wonderful cottage S Howlett
-
"Orchard cottage is the perfect little getaway , set in a quiet rural location but close enough to local amenities ."
We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and she was knowledgeable on the area . Whilst there we used the log burner it soon makes the cottage toastie warm . We enjoyed family time playing games supplied with the cottage , around the fire , indulging in probably the best fish and chips we have had in years from the local queen's chippy . Personally I loved the roof windows and laying in bed looking up to the stars . It is just like home from home with everything you need ,. It's perfect for dogs the smaller back garden is extremely secure and opens onto a larger shared garden also secure so the dogs can have a mad half HR chasing around ,. We shall definitely be returning 100% x

"Lovely cottage and friendly owner."
Situated in quiet location but great for kids and the dog. Close to Ashbourne and the Peak District. We live not too far away but made for a lovely short weekend away and would recommend.
-

Brilliant location, with Dovedale nearby. The horses were an absolute delight.

"Excellent place to stay as base to visit local area, friendly helpful people ..."
Excellent place to stay as base to visit local area, friendly helpful people with a nice public house 5 minutes walk away for evening meal or a drink, the bed was a little too hard for me but that would be my only criticism, we had a very nice week Thank you
-
"We stayed for a week."
The cottage had everything we needed. It was perfect for the 5 of us. Plenty of outside space. We visited Chatsworth house, Alton towers, Cannock Chase go ape, Trentham monkey forest and Stepping stones Dovedail.
-
"Perfect for dogs!"
-
"Good little cottage for dog owners."
Owner very helpful.
-
"We had a most amazing week at Orchard Cottage, came home yesterday but would have loved to have stayed longer."
The cottage is comfortable and well equipped, the outside space for our two dogs, Connie and Meg was brilliant and we came home with two very tired happy girls. There are walks and fields around the farm that can also be utilised with the local pub a staggerable 5 minutes away, we will definitely be planning a return, Lois and her family were very welcoming and helpful and close at hand if needed. Would highly recommend.
-
"Great cottage, we really enjoyed our stay, even if it did rained most of the time."
Lovely and clean and well equipped kitchen. Absolutely loved the log burner. however the beds were too firm for our liking but that’s personal choice, and wouldn’t stop us returning In the future, hopping for so sun next time though! Thank you to Lois and her family
-
"Wonderful cottage, huge basket of logs for the wood burner which we all enjoyed very much."
Very clean and tidy, lovely comfy beds, our dogs enjoyed the outdoor space, nice secure garden and extra area for the dogs to have a sniff around. Lois was very helpful and provided a local OS map for us. Will definitely be coming back again in the future.
-
"The wood burning stove and storage heaters made it warm and cosy."
Staying on the farm was quiet and relaxed. There were goldfinches on the bird feeder, red kites circling overhead. We saw owls and bats at night, all this, only 5 minutes walk to the cosy pub up the road.
-
"We felt very relaxed as soon as we arrived although there was a chill in the rooms so maybe heating on for arrival would be a nice touch but the log fire soon had the lounge warm."
Great for the dogs, they really enjoyed playing in the well kept gardens. Overall a fabulous holiday and location.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely little cottage."
We stayed for a week with our 2 boys (5 and 2 years) who loved sleeping in the bunk beds and playing on the trampoline. Lois was very friendly and welcoming, even with the Covid restrictions she greeted us and gave us some more information about the cottage and the surrounding area. We were well placed for many activities in the Peak District and found the cottage comfortable for resting after a busy day. We only wish we could’ve stayed longer!
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage."
It was comfortable and in a fabulous location for the abundance of walks on offer in the surrounding area. The nearest town of Ashbourne was a five minute journey and Dovedale was just on the doorstep too. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and the girls loved being able to take a peek at the horses in the stables. The garden was an added bonus for the dog, who also had access to a disused runway for his morning and evening walks. All in all we would recommend staying here and should we ever do a staycation again in the coming years, this would be in the top of our list. Thank you for a lovely stay.
-
"The owners couldn't have been more helpful lovely people."
Some great walks and surroundings, ideal for children and dogs our3 grandchildren and Loui the dog were in their element. Well recommended away from all the problems around us.
-

"This was our 2nd stay at Orchard Cottage but hopefully not our last."
We are a family of 4 (kids at 11 and 9). The cottage is ideal. Warm, clean and cosy with great WiFi! 30 mins from Alton Towers, close to Dovedale, Carsington Water and Matlock. Great country pub less than 5 mins up the hill and a short drive to the lovely town of Ashbourne.
-
"Nicely situated cottage with walks for your dogs close by."
Only three miles from Ashbourne and ten from Dovedale + many other attractions.
-
"Excellent location and a lovely cottage."
Very clean and tidy. Very friendly and helpful owner - would definitely recommend a stay here. We have two dogs and it was absolutely perfect as the garden is fully enclosed and there are lots of great walks near by.
-
"Lovey people and beautiful peaceful location ."
Spotlessly clean and very comfortable . The only downside was the heating. Night storage heaters gave lots of heat during the day when we were not at home but very little in the evenings when you needed it . The log burner was essential . Apart from that we had a lovely break and would definitely go there again.
-
"Beautiful cottage ."
Ideal location. Ideal for children and great for dogs. Everything we needed was in cottage. Will be returning soon
-
"A beautiful, well equipped cottage in a lovely, peaceful area."
We booked the cottage to attend a Christening in St James church, we thoroughly enjoyed a glass of red in front of the log burner on the Saturday evening before walking to The Shire Horse pub for a wonderful meal, very friendly staff and dog friendly! We would thoroughly recommend this beautiful little cottage.

Our granddaughter enjoyed playing on the swings and the large trampoline opposite the cottage. There is a pathway leading to a disused airfield that is perfect for walking dogs. The beds were very comfortable so we slept well, and had no trouble finding the place. many thanks lyn and eric.
-
"Fantastic weekend away."
Weather was great. Only thing that was slightly array was the lack of wi-fi.
-
"We will definitely be staying there again."
-
"Nice and warm if a little uncontrollable, especially the wood burner that would benefit from a new door seal to make it more controllable."
(I did not use the extra logs I collected) A coat hook on the bathroom door would be a benefit and new shower curtain or at least a good wash. Very many thanks
-

Where you’ll be staying
EDLASTON
Ashbourne 3 miles.
Edlaston is a lovely rural hamlet just 3 miles from the beautiful market town of Ashbourne. Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of a Derbyshire market town - there is a market place with stalls, an eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th Century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don't expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by. Alton Towers is just 20 minutes away.
