  • "Positives:- owners left me to it after the initial welcome which i prefer, not a fan of owners checking in all the time."

    they left a welcome pack with homemade marmalade which was tasty, some shortbread , different types of tea and coffee. fresh milk in the fridge. bed was comfy and nice thick duvet that kept warm but doesnt make you sweat. had all the amenities you would want, lots of cutterly,plates,salt/pepper/spices etc great views and peaceful issues: Heating is controlled by the owner so if you are cold you would need to ask them to turn it up etc, which just feels like im complaining so i never did and just wore more things. there is no curtains at the front of the conservatory and only netted ones around the sides. the front faces the owners wall with a window in it(they dont ever seem to use this room) which doesnt feel very private at night where you cant see out but they can see in. It's a shared garden which wraps around the house with gates that have lots of space for any sized dog to get through. i broke a knob on a cupboard door moving the spare chairs around to make room, sorry about this. overall it was a good experience that could of been made great with the above issues addressed. 4.4/5 stars

    Thank you for the review and you liked the privacy. There appears to be an issue with recent guests feeling that they are being watched. The cotton muslin curtains do not allow anyone to see in and neither do they allow anyone to see out No one can see in through the front door at night because it faces a stone wall with one small high level window to a spare room. Unfortunately I lost connection to the heating thermostat because it had been moved and wasn't picking up any signal. I found the thermostat had been moved when I went into The Netty after you left. I did ask you to let me know if you weren't warm enough but as you didn't mention anything I took it that it was warm enough. Property Owner

  • "No curtains or blinds in the lounge area, felt like we were in a goldfish bowl and didn't sit in there to watch tv except one tea time."

    Couldn't connect to the internet at all on my laptop, even tried in the pub but it didn't work, we managed to get it on our phones though. This place actually catered for smokers with seats and a table outside and the offer of an ashtray though we had our own, well done on that score. We were told just to ask to turn the heating up, which is operated by an app on the elderly owner's phone but at night when it did get cold the owners were in bed so we couldn't knock them up. All the gear needed for a comfortable stay, a lovely welcome basket also. We wouldn't go back again but it's ok to get your head down in for a day or two. Great people at the pub by the way.

    The conservatory seating area is not overlooked by anyone so I've never considered curtains essential although there are net curtains at the windows. I can only apologise for you not being able to access the internet here but it is currently unreliable due to works being carried out in the area. This is beyond my control. The heating was monitored regularly and kept at a comfortable temperature and never went off during your stay. You never mentioned that you didn't consider it warm enough but where we are located we expect guests to go out exploring during the day and the heating is set to go down by 2 degrees between 11am and 3pm. The Netty is extremely well insulated so it takes a long time for the temperature to go down unless doors and windows are left open. Thank you for the feed back. Property Owner

  • "The owners."

    .Ken and Olive are lovely friendly people, made us very welcome.the Netty was warm and comfortable, had everything needed for a cosy stay. Well placed for good walking and not too far to the local pub! Wil definitely go back in the near future.

  • "Very well appointed cottage and quite comfortable."

    Minor criticisms : * there is no tv in the bedroom although it is advertised * porch quite comfy but afternoon sun prevents watching tv - needs a blind * found the owner quite grumpy - when leaving she inspected the recycling bins and I had to tell her quite strongly to leave us alone ! However her husband later came out and was very polite and friendly. Still, an enjoyable stay and good for a couple of walkers.

    I'm pleased that the guests found The Netty comfortable and enjoyed their stay. Yes I was annoyed when the guest tipped a whole load of kitchen waste into my domestic recycling bin in my garden when it states quite clearly in the welcome booklet that the bins for The Netty are located just two steps from the door. I'm sorry that the guests were not able to watch television in bed and that the sun interfered with their daytime viewing. The TV has now been put on a wall bracket and the angle can now be adjusted.   • "A bijou cottage nestled behind the old school."

    We loved it. In a very quiet village – the highest in England, and 2 mins walk from the highest village pub in England. Small but perfectly formed and everything was clean and well-provided. The seating area is a sun trap and great for relaxing. Loads of parking and midway between Buxton and Leek. Dog friendly, including the pub. Next to the church with lovely views over the valley. Good Wi-Fi (40Mbps).

  • "A very nice place to use as a base for exploring the area, very clean and tidy, a nice jesture on arrival was the tea milk and for a welcome drink as the village only has a pub , which was nice ."

    The hosts were very nice and welcoming on arrival offering help if required, good information book , If you like peace and quite this the place for you

  • "The Netty is very well equipped, and a good bolt hole for exploring the surrounding area."

    It is full of old nick nacks.. we found the place quite cold, even though the little heater is on all day and night. The mattress needs changing as the springs are coming through.. The lady owner hospitality left us feeling uncomfortable at times and we felt a nuisance when we asked for anything. We would suggest adding milk to the welcome pack as there are no shops nearby, and after a long drive the last thing you want to do is go out again to try to find a shop..

    Thank you for your comments. Firstly, I am really glad to hear that you found the property well-equipped and in a good location. I can only assume that the "nick nacks" are the casserole dishes, biscuit jar, cake stand etc, as there aren't any other items on display. I am sorry to hear that you found the property cold at times, however there is a log effect electric fire for use on cool evenings. On inspection I noticed that it had been unplugged and the panel heater had also been switched off. The mattress is relatively new and it also has a mattress topper. I imagine what you could feel was possibly the elements running through the electric blanket. I have removed the electric blanket as it is now almost summer. The only thing I recall being asked during your stay was where to put your recycling and I directed you to the recycling container. The welcome booklet explains these things in detail. Had you asked about milk, I would gladly have given you some. I normally leave milk in the fridge for guests' arrival but I'm afraid there must have been an oversight on this occasion. I am always happy to help with any concerns that may arise, and would like to assure any future guests that they can always approach me during their stay if there is anything they would like me to put right. About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
