  • "We liked it so much, we went back!"

Never done that before and it was just as good second time around. The cottage is quaint and cosy, fitted out and maintained to a high standard and has everything you would need. The village is just beautiful, with spectacular views wherever you look with lots of lovely walks and cycle routes nearby. The bus stop just around the corner means you can get into Holmfirth in no time and leave the car behind. There is also the fantastic Butchers Arms, which serves delicious food and drink, literally a minutes walk away. The owners, Ash and Nicola, couldn’t be more friendly or helpful and make you feel extremely welcome. We will no doubt be back for a 3rd time soon and would definitely recommend Chimney Cottage to anyone looking to stay in the local area. David, Rachel and Bailey.

Nice feel when you enter. Clean and everything in good condition. Comfy double bed in main room (small room not used). Comfy sofa. Well equipped kitchen. Breakfast bar setup feels a bit strange at first but works fine once you get used to it and makes best use of the space. Overall very happy with our stay. Description of house accurate.

  • "The cottage has been renovated well and was clean and tidy but not worth the title of “luxurious”."

Parking is a big issue, with nothing allocated to the cottage it’s first come, first served. The chairs at the breakfast / island are too high to eat comfortably from and the cooking utensils are limited. The shower is very awkward to get in and out due to limited space and would benefit with a handle being fitted. Entrance is also very restricted, especially after walking all day and returning with muddy boots, back packs and dying for that cup of tea.. Overall, well renovated for a tiny cottage but well over priced for the ‘luxury’ tag.

Thank you for the review in our guest book saying you had a "a comfy and well modernised cottage the cottage had “a good pub on the doorstep, what more could you want",and that you "had a great week ". We were therefore surprised with this review. Inconsistently you’re review says the cottage is “clean and tidy”and also “not worth the title of luxurious”, yet you’ve marked cleanliness at 50% and accuracy of listing at 100%, quite inconsistent with you’re following words. 1. Parking is on a first come basis and given the nature of our small picturesque village, parking on the lane can be limited. We don’t hide the fact that parking is limited, it states in the listing, we do however find that more often than not, guests can park by the cottage. 2. Regarding the chairs, we acknowledge body heights can be different and you may therefore have struggled. However as they are of a standard height for a standard height breakfast bar, we dismiss this comment. 3. Regarding the limited cooking utensils, if you'd like to email us with suggestions of which utensils you would have liked in the cottage, we'd be happy to consider this for future guests, again with over 100 reviews on various platforms this has never been brought up before. 4. Regarding the shower, whilst we have positive comments about it and the bathroom, thank you for your suggestion about the benefit of a handle being fitted and we will explore this. 5. In terms of the porch and the size of the property, which is clearly visible from the pictures, we are sorry our cottage did not meet your requirements for needing a large entrance hall. 6. Sykes determine the price based on their experienced assessment of the quality of our property compared to similar properties. I can also confirm that the oven downdraught extractor fan lid I spoke to you about after your visit that our housekeeper found broken after your stay and you didn't report as broken during your stay, is in the process of being replaced Property Owner

  • "A delightful cottage, with all the facilities that we needed."

The only comment I have is that there were two sets of towels for three people, but we managed fine with what there was. The hosts were very helpful in sorting out a microwave issue we had through not reading the instructions!

Thank you for your feedback Alan. Our sincere apologies for the towels being omitted. This is the first time this has happened and was due to a very rare last minute cancelation by the guests due in before you, and us forgetting to pop back up to the cottage to provide an additional set of towels. We would normally always provide three sets of towels when three guests are staying with us. We hope you will come back and stay with us again soon, and if there is anything you feel isnt right on your arrival, please do contact us so we can sort this for you. And our pleasure for popping up to the cottage to provide help on how to use the microwave :) Property Owner

It is well appointed with all the facilities to enjoy a home away from home. The bed was super comfortable and two sofa meant plenty of space to lounge. The area around Chimney cottage is quiet and peaceful. Some nice dog walks and a great pub (Butcher’s Arms). If you want to venture out, a little further afield, Holmfirth itself has some lovely independent shops and cafes to enjoy an afternoon browsing. We were a little worried about the parking at Chimney Cottage (reading other reviews) but we were pleasantly surprised as it was easy to park right by the cottage and the road was very quiet. We have stayed in other cottages in the area where parking has not been so convenient. We will definitely visit again.

  • "A lovely cottage, refurbished to a very high standard, in a quiet village with lots of footpaths."

Well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, great shower and really nice homely touches throughout. This cottage is dog friendly but there is no garden and if your dog is anything like ours, you may struggle to find some grass for the toilet! Parking is very limited on a narrow lane with restrictions on where you can/can’t park. I only have a Mini but it felt tight. It would be great to have an allocated parking space at the pub just round the corner. Other than that, really nice cottage, lovely village and great communication with the owner.

Thank you for your lovely feedback on our cottage and our communications, and great to hear that you were not disturbed by the neighbour during your stay. I know when I popped up to the cottage, you were not blocking the neighbours exit and there was sufficient room for cars to get past your vehicle to the properties at the top of our lane. Due to the nature of the village, some of the lanes in Hepworth can be narrow. But this is also part of the charm of this small picturesque village amidst a rural valley setting with stunning scenery. We hope you will return to Hepworth again. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is beautiful and had everything anyone could want."

The people, walks and Pubs were all welcoming and Chimney Cottage felt like home. I was lucky to have beautiful weather. The views are amazing on walks. I could not fault the cottage and the owners were very helpful as I couldn’t work the cooker and they called me as soon as I messaged them. They were also very understanding as I thought I had to leave Saturday and wasn’t packed on Friday when I was supposed to depart. The only thing I was a little disappointed with is your advert states Dog friendly and Garden. I assumed this meant a back garden as I googled and could see that there was grass behind the cottage but this garden was neighbours. It was a little misleading and inconvenient as it meant I had to go straight out when I got up for toilet walk when I would have liked a coffee. Luckily there are several walks close so didn’t have to go far.

Thank you for your lovely feedback about the cottage, local people and the area, and for saying in the visitor book that "this is the best holiday in Yorkshire Ive had" and that "only one thing I didnt like...was going home" :) We were glad we could make the holiday special for you, Poppy & Lily. We are always keen to provide a 4/4 experience across all areas for our guests, so thank you for providing us with your feedback on the pans (which we are getting replaced in preparation for guests arriving tomorrow) and the small stain on the bedroom carpet (for which we are having all the carpets cleaned this Friday). In terms of external areas, our listing content and pictures only refers to the enclosed patio garden at the front of our property, so sorry we couldnt offer you the rear neighbouring garden you had seen on google. It was a pleasure to host you and your four legged family, and being able to respond to all your queries during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back again. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is beautiful, very cosy and maintained to a high standard."

We did need to contact the owners whilst staying as there were very noisy building work going on from morning throughout the day. I was trying to write an essay & relax in the cottage with my family after loosing my mum & mother in law in December. The owners answered our call immediately & apologised, and a few hours later we had a call from Sykes to arrange some compensation. Car parking waa an issue, as even though we parked where the owners advised, we did have a neighbour knock on the door and was very rude & angry, telling us to move our car. Even though it is not his land, we moved our car as we did not want him knocking on the door every day, so we didn't have a parking space. We moved our car onto the main road in the village. But it was safe and only a few minutes walk from the cottage. The owner rang to ensure we were happy after discussing the noise issue with Sykes and we agreed we were.

Thank you for your lovely feedback about our cottage and our response to your concerns. It was disappointing at the time to hear that you had not been made aware of the renovation works being carried out prior to your arrival (given this information was shared with Sykes in early January), and the impact this had clearly had on your stay at our cottage. I was however pleased that Sykes responded promptly after we spoke to them, and that they offered you acceptable compensation due to their oversight. As the property is located in a small rural village with narrow roads, the parking opportunities can be limited compared to other areas. We appreciate that on this occasion your experience was also compounded by the temporary presence of a skip, where many of our guest have previously parked without disruption, and the neighbouring resident who needed to exit their garages. Despite its parking limitations I am glad to hear you found Hepworth a safe place to stay and leave your car, and hope you choose to visit Hepworth again some time. Property Owner

The property

Settled on a quiet lane in the sought-after village of Hepworth near Holmfirth, is this wonderful, stone-fronted property, Chimney Cottage.

Retaining much of its character with exposed brick walls, beams and a woodburning stove, this pet-friendly home is ideal for a small family or three friends looking for a rural escape.

Park up on the roadside before making your way inside to the porch, where you can house your muddy walking boots, ready to explore the Holme Valley.

Locate the open-plan living space, hosting a contemporary kitchen, where the chef of the group can rustle up hearty meals, courtesy of the electric oven and induction hob and when dinner is served, gather at the breakfast bar.

About the location

HEPWORTH

Holmfirth 2 miles; Glossop 16 miles.

The old traditional Pennine village of Hepworth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book, the village is made up of lovely old stone cottages, a beautiful church and excellent pubs, restaurants and cafes. The village has many traditions including the centuries old Hepworth Feast, which commemorates the end of the Great Plague in Hepworth and is held annually on the last Monday in June. Hepworth along with its nearby neighbour Holmfirth, will be remembered by most as being the home of Compo, Cleggy and Nora Batty, from the long running comedy series 'Last of the Summer Wine', whilst the nearby Colne Valley is home to the fictional 'Skelthwaite' from the successful TV series 'Where the Heart Is'.
