  • "The cottage is very compact but well equipped."

It was good having dog bowls. The location was convenient for Sid's cafe and the summer wine bus tour. Access was very steep and the lanes extremely narrow. We parked at the Station Road car park which was a 5 minute walk away.

Only hiccup was no bedding on bed when we arrived, but a phone call resolved this.

  • "Upstairs the property was great but downstairs was not comfortable if you wanted to stay in, not a good lay out to watch tv."

We had great weather so was out all weekend.

Thank you for your feedback. The property does have two comfortable 2 seater sofas downstairs, the TV can be viewed from both. Property Owner

  • "Pros..."

Ideal central location. Cons... Carrying bags up/down steep steps. Bed linen did not look, feel, or smell freshly laundered.

Thank you for your feedback. The bedding is professionally laundered so we are sorry to hear your comments. The property is in a very central location and is positioned in one of the oldest parts of Holmfirth. As well as steps near to the church there is a small cobbled path up to the property which features in the Holmfirth Heratige and Blue Plaque Trail. Property Owner

  • "Very nice little cottage with everything you’ll need while your away."

The area is really nice and has some great little places to eat and drink. The cobbles can be slippery walking to and from the front door so wouldn’t be suitable for anyone who has problems walking. Overall really enjoyed our stay and would stay on the same cottage again.

  • "The cottage provided all facilities as listed, however there was a strong smell of damp, it was a huge disappointment to see & hear a dehumidifier in the property running 24/7, this was omitted in all detail given in relation to this property, very disappointing."

    :(

We are very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay. Like many of the traditional old mill cottages in and around Holmfirth Bell cottage is built into the hillside. The dehumidifier prevents the possibility of any condensation and on the correct setting is a smart machine which turns itself on and off automatically to keep the humidity at the correct level. Unfortunately it had been knocked onto the continuous mode which has now been adjusted and will be checked regularly. We take the other concerns you raised in your review very seriously and are addressing them. Property Owner

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Battye’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
