  • "Fantastic base to explore The Peak District."

Cottage was comfortable, felt very homely and my children loved the layout and low ceilings in the bedroom. The playroom was an added extra. There was adequate parking. I’d overlooked that this property doesn’t have a garden but wasn’t a problem for us with the weather we had! The hosts were lovely, not imposing but we knew we could ask for anything should we need it. Very isolated, exactly what we wanted! Would happily book again. Thank you for a lovely stay :)

  • "Great place."

Beautiful walks around the cottage. Very comfortable. Disappointed with the cleanliness in the bathroom. The water would not drain away and when I lifted the plug, there was loads of hair there, which I had to pull out to allow the water to drain. Also mould growth around the bath. Didn’t expect to do cleaning for others. Need to bring all your supplies, washing up liquid, hand wash, shampoo etc.

  • "Lovely place lovely host, even let us put our bikes in the garage while staying which was great piece of mind."

Only minor complaint is having to push the fridge door hard to get it to close. Couldn’t find any other fault

  • "Property was very nice and cosy."

Unfortunately towels had some dirt and were not fresh. Downstairs was clean but the upstairs had lots of hanging spiders and large cobwebs. Nice welcome treats of cookies and crisps. The kitchen floor is a hazard as the flooring was lose around the sink!!

  • "We had a brilliant time at Rumblings 3."

The cottage had everything we needed for a super holiday and was beautifully clean and tidy when we arrived. It is well located for lots of attractions such as Buxton, Bakewell, Dovedale and Alton Towers. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage and will definitely return. Thank you.

  • "The property far exceeded our expectations."

Owners were very friendly and helpful. Lovely cottage type property, very warm and comfortable. Bathroom was spacious with an excellent shower over the bath. Short drive down into Barlow to eat out, and we were also able to stay in and cook our meals as well. Comfortable beds in the two bedrooms. Separate TV room with television so that games could be played and videos watched. We wanted to stay longer! Highly recommend.

  • "The cottage was OK, but not as good as we were expecting."

The washing machine was not working as an engineer needed to visit and this did not happen prior to the end of our stay. In front of the washing machine the wooden floor had lifted causing this to be a dangerous trip hazard. There were marks on carpet and the seal around the bath was black in places. The towels and bed sheets smelled as if they had been left damp before they dried - not a pleasant experience. I found a black hair underneath the bottom sheet which was noticeable through the sheet. There were no pillow protectors on the pillows and the pillows were marked. The pillows in the upstairs bedroom were very badly marked. It would have been nice to have had some information on local restaurants/ shops etc.

  • "Fantastic cottage and location to explore the Peak District."

Beautiful scenery all around. Home owner little touches like wine, crisps and biscuits went down a treat. Farm next door selling eggs is also handy. Nice walks around the area and "The Tickled Trout Pub" down the road is an added bonus for the family.

  • "We found the photos of the front room on the website deceptive in that it made the front room look a lot bigger than it was."

The downstairs was so small almost unusable especially if you had a young child. None of the top floor beds had linen on. We booked the whole cottage not just one floor! My wife was not feeling well so we needed the extra bed. Was forced to contact owner. I asked for an extra tray and dish rack as there was no dishwasher we needed the dish rack so plates etc could dry which they didn't without. What annoyed us was this request was ignored and we had quite a blunt text back saying linen would be left for us....but we shouldn't have had to ask! We had no welcome from owners. Signage to where park car needs replacing as you can't see it. Wasn't made clear in description that owners house was literally opposite. We had to put blinds down each day as anyone who walked past would stare in! Most mornings were quite noisy with either kids shouting on field behind us or some machinery work. Rooms need blinds to black out light! Bathroom and shower very good but need more hooks to hang towels.

Mr Allen, I am very sorry you had issues during your recent stay at The Rumblings. We have had many families stay in this cottage with up to five people who have thoroughly enjoyed their stay and not struggled for space. With regards your welcome to The Rumblings, Myself or My Wife Tania always try our best to personally greet all guests whenever possible – as you say we do live in the farm house next to The Rumblings. However as you did arrive at 10.30pm on Friday night we did try to welcome you the following day but got no reply on two separate occasions. The bedding you requested was brought round and the extra bed made up for you the same afternoon. The machinery in the morning must have been down to the time of year because we do have a lot of farms close by so must have been working in the fields - apologies for this disruption. As with the children playing outside “ this was the neighbours grandchildren who were staying at the time we do apologise but these things are out of our control. We do appreciate feedback from guests in our cottages and the vast majority as I am sure you will see is excellent and we do have many repeat customers who come back to stay with us. Your points have been noted and we will do our very best to ensure these are put right wherever possible. Kind regards David Taylor Property Owner

Chesterfield 4 miles; Sheffield 12 miles; Matlock 12.5 miles; Bakewell 12 miles.

Barlow is a pretty village situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park. An old mining village on the River Derwent dating back to the Domesday Book, it now boasts three pubs and a church. The village is situated in a rural location, surrounded by undulating countryside with deep valleys and high moors and is convenient for exploring the attractions of the Peak District.
There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, and its 1000-acre estate, magnificent gardens, farm and craft shop, children’s farmyard, play area and restaurant, and also nearby are Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall. The historic market town of Chesterfield, with its famous 14th century church with a crooked spire, along with the lively city of Sheffield, are both within a short drive, as are the amenities of Matlock and Bakewell, or the opera at Buxton. An ideal location whatever the time of year.
