  • "We had a lovely stay at Shire Cottage and were very satisfied with the facilities."

The kitchen was well equipped and the conservatory dining area was a lovely place to sit, eat, drink, chat and play games. The kitchen has an air fryer and a slow cooker which would have been handy to know in advance. Also we did not have any pods for the coffee machine. We all enjoyed the hot tub and would happily recommend the property. We were 6 adults, 2 small children and 2 small dogs. The only improvement I would suggest would be replacing the brown settee with something more comfortable as it is too low.

  • "Shire Cottage was a lovely family space, and the owner was quick to answer queries - luckily we had the weather to enjoy sitting outside."

Sadly the cottage is in need of a little general maintenance to make it feel worth the money charged - loose slabs in the path from the parking area to the front door, broken base-boards under cupboards in a number places, kitchen tap very loose, loo-roll holder coming off the wall in the principle bedroom, loo-pans in 2 bedrooms very badly stained, games space has a leaky roof so there was a large puddle making it difficult for the children to play table-tennis, garden over-grown, black paint peeling off the wall in the patio area, - all things that can be quickly rectified, and then the Cottage would be as welcoming as we had anticipated. I appreciate that this is information the owner might not aware of, and would prefer to action rather than publishing, but felt it important to point out. If left, it will continue to deteriorate even further. It certainly tainted our few days away.

About the location

HANWOOD

Bayston Hill 3.8 miles; Shrewsbury 3.9 miles; Church Stretton 12.4 miles; Telford 17.2 miles

The beautiful village of Hanwood is situated in the county of Shropshire, just a few miles away from Shrewsbury town centre. Running through the village is the Cambrian railway line, however, the town's train station was closed down in 1964 due to the Beeching Axe, a plan to make British railway systems more efficient. The village is home to a Post Office/shop, country pub, a primary school, and a parish church. The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty rests below Hanwood, with 802 square kilometers of stunning scenery extending to the border of wales, and opportunity to explore rare wildlife, difficult walking trails, and historic attractions. The towns of Shrewsbury and Telford are in reach, with Shrewsbury lying next to the River Severn, and Telford boasting a large selection of high street shops, bustling pubs, lively restaurants, and tasty takeaways. Hanwood is a tranquil destination to enjoy the beauty of Shropshire.
