  • "Station house is very comfortable and roomy - it suited our family get together very well."

We had a weekend stay and walked locally one day - visited Shrewsbury the next - both delightful and with so much to see both in nature and the historic town. We all had a go at the air hockey - shrieks of laughter! and spent long evenings around the dining table - talking and taking our time, lovely to do that. The garden was perfect for the 10 and 8 year old - also Nacho, the puppy. Thank you to our hosts for everything - so thoughtfully provided.

  • "What a fabulous find."

This cottage was so lovely, the facilities were absolutely great for 10 of us plus a toddler. Location is perfect to get to Shrewsbury and probably other places but we were lucky with the weather so used the garden to sit out in. It has 2 en-suites and a family bathroom but also a downstairs toilet which isn't mentioned in the listing and is a bonus. The single beds weren't the most comfortable but that didn't spoil our weekend. The games room is a great family place too with a games console, table tennis table, air hockey plus numerous other things to entertain children and adults. The large family dining table was also perfect for us all to sit around and have a meal and a wine and cheese night. Really is a wonderful place to stay. Loved our long weekend here. We would definitely book this place again in the future.

It was spacious, and equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. In addition to sharing the grownups' and kids obsession with trains which was not instructive, the kids also adored the game room. For 8 adults and 2 kids, the kitchen had everything we needed. On our final day it was sad to leave and will most certainly be returning.

Was lovely and warm and everything people would need in terms of facilities, games room, crockery etc. even included ,though we did not know , were dog bowls and a collapsible dog crate. However we always took dogs with us. Only thing we were unsure about was where to put black bin as certain items could not be put in bin outside back gate. Great to have list of instructions etc in folder. Pub in Hang a Gate closed Mondays and Tuesdays so we went to Horseshoes which was excellent.

  • "Lovely property with everything we needed for the stay provided, but looking a little tired and needed a good clean in some places with plenty of cobwebs!"

Entrance hall is very welcoming, especially when sunny, and useful for stripping off wet clothes after rain before moving into the inner hall, but loose cables could do with pinning to the wall. Living room was nice but the couches were too soft and difficult to stand up from, the entrance door was sticking, and the room could benefit from some table lamps. The main TV was only connected to wi-fi so main channels could only be reached through catch-up. Bedrooms were clean and beds comfortable, but two of the shower trays were showing signs of age and use. Lovely large kitchen with plenty of utensils, cutlery, dishes, glasses, etc, and a good large fridge. One of the small units needs repair and spoilt the overall look, but otherwise the kitchen and utility are well stocked. It was very useful to know that Sainsburys (and maybe others) deliver direct to the door. The garden was a little overgrown and in need of some maintenance, but was fully enclosed, exactly what we needed for two dogs. However, the lights outside the back door appeared not to work which made it difficult when the dogs went out late at night. The noise from the trains was certainly no issue, especially as the line was closed from the second day! And the late night goods train only provided a background rumble. With a few minor tweaks and maintenance, Station House would be restored to perfection.

It's spacious, well-equipped, comfortable and has plenty of parking. We were fortunate to have superb weather so made good use of the gas BBQ and the plentiful garden furniture. The owners, who live next door, were very helpful in getting a problem with the bathroom lighting fixed quickly. It was useful to have supermarkets just a few minutes away on the outskirts ofShrewsbury and there were plenty of place s to visit within easy travelling distance. We'd recommend this property to anyone wanting to holiday with a group of family / friends in this beautiful area - and children will love watching out for the passes trains!

Owner said we didn't have to rush on day of departure which was great. Brought some plants from their honesty payment selection at entrance, all good prices. The trains make it an interesting stay. From the moment we stepped into the Station House we knew that we had made a good choice. The house was decorated extensively outside and in with lovely touches such as seasonal cushions, fireguard, table centrepiece and other ornaments and a huge (real) Christmas tree. Chocolates and a bottle of bubbly were a real welcome treat! The big porch area serves as an idea place for coats and shoes, especially our walking boots. The house is very dog friendly and there are extra dog bowls and a few accessories in the utility room. A large games room gives extra space where there are plenty of board games, Lego bricks, wooden train and other toys as well as an air hockey table and a TV with Xbox. The large and well equipped kitchen was perfect for preparing our Christmas dinner and the dining room big enough for comfortably accommodate us all. Upstairs the bedrooms where comfortable and spacious and included 2 en-suite rooms. Our 4 year old grandson was very happy with the toddler bed and there were 2 additional cots in other rooms along with extra stair gates. Although we did not need them it indicates the consideration the owners have made when equipping the house, offering plenty of choice for those with young children and babies. We note from previous comments that the adjacent train track can be a disturbance, especially at night. As we were staying over Christmas (and there were train strikes) we have to say there was no problem apart for the occasional rapidly passing commuter train. If we were to note any issues it was was the lack of a good carving knife among the cutlery, also the family bathroom lock did not work properly. We had a lovely time at the Station House and it has long been known to our Grandson as the “Christmas House” it truly lived up to expectations and provided a magical Christmas for all “children” young and old!

The house is well equipped so we didn't want for anything. We knew there was a train line right next to the house as it's mentioned in the description but,,,, we didn't realise how busy it was. It's a main line from Shrewsbury to Cardiff with a high speed intercity train running regularly which shook the house. Trains were halted right outside the house a number of times which felt a bit invasive. If you love trains, this is the place to stay. We still had a good holiday though.

Kitchen was very well equipped. Very dog friendly but at the same time didn’t smell of dogs!! And no dog hair anywhere! Child gates were very useful - we had no children but used them to keep the dogs downstairs. Bedrooms were lovely, 2 of which had en- suites. And complimentary bottles of water at bedside were a lovely touch. Garden was beautiful with plenty of garden furniture and a BBQ. Also totally secure so dogs were free to run around safely! Plenty of space for our cars and it was far enough away from the busy road that you cant hear any traffic, there is the occasional loud train during the week which shudders the building a bit, but at the weekend there weren't any at all, plus we were out visiting nearby tourist attractions during the day so didn't mind them. We asked Sykes to check with the owners if they would allow 4 dogs which they kindly did. This would have been an ideal opportunity to inform us that building work was taking place at the property immediately next to Station house also owned by them. The builders arrived at 8am and on some days left only at 5pm. There was a noisy delivery of wood early one morning around 8.15am. We complained to the owners but although they stopped roofing, work in the house continued with a radio playing and workmen chatting and singing. We value our privacy and chose this house as it was detached however our time in the garden was spoilt because of lack of privacy and noise as the new build directly overlooks station house. Although there is clear mention of trains passing it should be pointed out that the goods train passing at 3am each day makes the house shake! On a positive note the house was clean with good quality bedding and towels.

Mostly two or three carriage passenger trains which disappear in a few seconds. Only longer and slightly noisier goods trains take longer than a flash! The grandchildren loved having a train set just outside and it really is not that loud. But the best bit for them was the games room! We were so glad that the owners kept the toys out and especially the air hockey. They loved it - and so did we! So many places have gone nuts over COVID - and this shows how you should do it. The house had plenty of space and a well equipped kitchen. The lounge has a good size TV - not that we had time to view much - there is so much to see: Ironbridge Gorge (with ten museums including the wonderful Blists Hill Village), Cosford RAF Museum, Shrewsbury - we even ventured to Chester (an hour away)! The Sykes member of staff was extremely helpful and contacted the owner, who arrived about ten minutes later, in the rain, in her dressing gown, having just got out of the shower! Dedication to the property =100%! She was so lovely and friendly. From then on, the holiday just got better. The property had everything described online, but more in character than could be described. The owner has really tried to think of everything that you might need. Even had 2 fridges in case the main one was full. Dishwasher..yay! The owner had left us some welcoming cake and wine, and milk, tea and coffee. Perfect ! The bedrooms were lovely and comfortable, and views from the windows were great. We and our adult sons and their partners were easily able to gather around the dining table to eat, and the sitting room was comfortable- could perhaps have done with one more upholstered chair but we managed fine. The "boys" were really happy with the x box for a game one afternoon, and the dogs enjoyed playing in the gardens and on the playing fields just up the road. The village of Condover is a short walk away down the little road (Station Road) , and there is a Post office there. It is a peaceful village with a lovely church and some quaint houses. The trains on the Shrewsbury line are little (one or two carriages) and whoosh past- right next to the house but do not disturb. A couple of comments- 1. If you are not used to the countryside and do not like walking on single track roads, this would not be ideal for you. We loved it- climbing up onto the banking to avoid the odd tractor and all! The skylarks singing in the field next to the road more than made up for that! 2. The house is next to a small dog kennels/rehoming kennel. The dogs were quiet overnight, and barked a bit first thing in the morning and in the afternoon- feeding times, I'd guess. Kennel staff and walkers sometimes park near the holiday home. We visited in autumn and were glad of the central heating. Plus we have hayfever so the bare fields were a bonus- we were able to watch the farmer ploughing! I gather that crops are grown in the fields nearby, which could have affected us if we'd visited in the summer! A fantastic property with lovely owners. I would certainly recommend.

It’s an old station and as mentioned in the information the trains run past very close to the house. During the day they didn’t bother us at all, but the Friday night I had the window open in the bedroom nearest to the track and they were quite loud. The next night I closed the window and noise was much reduced. Other members of our party didn’t even notice any problem at night. There is a lovely big cooker for producing meals for a big group and a great dining table. Lots of positives for this house, there was just a couple of negatives. We don’t have dogs and there was a slight doggy odour in the house, but it does say dogs are allowed, so can’t say too much about that. The other negative was that there were lots of towels supplied but the bath towels were quite small, not really enough for a six foot plus man to walk from the bathroom and be quite decent!! Sue, the owner, could not have been more helpful. The house was spotless, the kitchen very well equipped and the games room was a godsend for our two young grandchildren because the weather was not too kind. We would certainly stay here again if in the area.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at the Station House."

The house was extremely well equipped in all areas and beds were comfortable. Our children really enjoyed the play room which had a wonderful array of toys for all ages from baby toys to wooden train sets and lego and even an air hockey table and X-box for older children. The house was very spacious with plenty of living accommodation for a large group to spread out across and was spotlessly clean. The train track does run right past the back of the house and the trains pass quite frequently. This was pointed out in the cottage details so was not a surprise and in fact the noise didn't bother us at all and seeing the trains whiz past while we were eating only added to the excitement for the children. We would highly recommend this cottage!

  • "As usual, Sykes Cottages support during the booking process and leading up to the holiday was great, arranging a high chair and a cot on our behalf."

When we arrived at Station House, the property was all we could have wished. It was the perfect venue for our short break with all our family, with a games room complete with lots of games, a large lounge for chilling out, a formal dining room for large family meal times and a well equipped family kitchen for preparing large meals. Upstairs there was plenty of comfortable bedrooms and enough bathrooms to go around. Station House itself has a long history dating back to 1852, including 106 years as a railway station and although it still sits on the train line, the traffic was light and actually added to the excitement of our grandchildren and fun of the adults. It certainly did not spoil the tranquility of the setting in a beautiful part of Shropshire, complete with great walking and hiking all around.

The cottage is wonderful and so well equipped as a holiday let. The only suggestion would be to provide information in the folder about recycling. Many thanks Best wishes
