"The Old Bakehouse provided a great, reasonably priced place from which to explore South Wales."
It had everything we could wish for and it felt very welcoming. The owner has clearly put a lot of thought into making it a good place to come to - it felt like a home from home. The parking outside was a major reason for choosing the property.

"Lovely cottage in a brilliant location."
We had a great couple of nights and absolutely loved the village of Llantwit Major. As Gavin and Stacey fans we also had a couple of trips to Barry Island which was easily accessible from here. Debs was a great host and provided plenty of information, we'll hopefully be back next year!

"Property has everything you need, although not always where expected."
Beds comfy, settees comfy. A bonus the bbc were filming all week, but parking was not an issue. Courtyard small but a bit of a suntrap. Good base for getting out and about on the South Wales coast.

"It's the second time we have been to this property and we can't fault it."
Every thing was very clean and comfortable, a home from home. No complaints from us. I would like to thank Debs for all the information she gave us before and during our stay at her cottage, she helped make our stay run very smoothly.

"A lovely clean and comfortable place to stay right in the heart of Llantwit Major."
Thank you Debbie.

"A wonderful house in a beautiful village."
The house itself is quite large and roomy and very comfortable. We stay during February and the house was kept nice and warm. The kitchen is very well equipped with more than you would need for every meal. The sofa’s are different from the photograph’s and are much nicer and very comfortable. Overall we loved the house and had a fantastic weeks stay.

"All is supplied for a home from home experience."
As long as people remember that this property is pet friendly they should enjoy there stay immensely as all the tools are there to keep this lovely home clean and comfortable, as it doesn’t clean itself. No trouble parking our cars again for the fourth year of staying here, just don’t park in riverside walk, they have a lookout I do believe that signals the printer in charge to leave an A4 paper on your windscreen with what they believe is a sarcastic promo on outside people, they offer you a vurooka check or a special car wash, I just decided not to park there anymore, problem solved, strangely enough, the neighbours are really friendly, lovely people.Great walks, lovely town, great bus and train service to Cardiff or Bridgend, great takeaways great kitchen for home cooking,, superb local butcher, and as for good ale , it’s got the lot within two minutes walk, wonderful atmosphere and hospitality in the inns, great food, home to a nice warm comfy bed, what more do you want! Thanks Debbie for your lovely home, wyn David,

"The cottage was perfectly satisfactory- clean and comfortable in a great location."
Just what we needed and allowed dogs which was perfect for us.

"The cottage looks nothing like you pictures especially the lounge area, the cottage is dirty, very dirty and very worn, the bathroom is newly refurbed which is fab but the shower head needs descaling it may then work as a shower and not a downpour."
The heating and hot water, all appliances are ok. But the cleaning requires attention, the muck, hair and dust on show is tremoudous especially on skirting boards and in corners, the Dyson hoover is left in the lounge and is choked to the top! Maybe the housekeepers need to empty it for it to work! Maybe some new un bubbled sheets on the single beds, and maybe move and remove all the rubbish under the single beds!! We moved on and picked up an array of sweet papers and rubbish we then proceeded to attempt to clean the skirting behind the bed. Also the parking needs to state anything bigger than a mini/fiat/small car will not fit on the located parking area. I tried to use the garage to back into but on opening the door you would have to move all the stuff first! Such a shame as the area is fabulous and the cottage with TLC could be amazing, we left on the Thursday evening to move on asap. We didn’t raise any issues as we were only sleeping there as with family during the stay. Lastly maybe a new digital aerial and one remote control would help! As the older members of our party really struggled and in the end didn’t bother!
Thank you for your full and frank feedback. I am very sorry that you experienced so many problems with the cottage and particularly that you did not contact me during your stay to give me the opportunity to rectify them. You mentioned that the lounge area does not look like the photos in the listing. The reason for that is because since the cottage was first listed with Sykes over 8 years ago, we have changed the rug, bought new curtains and had both the sofas reupholstered, making them much more comfortable. We have also replaced the blue crockery in the photos with a new set from John Lewis. The kitchen flooring has been replaced as well. The previous guest did report a problem with the shower head, but unfortunately only after you had already arrived. This has now been changed. I apologise that the cleaning was not acceptable. I had already raised this with our cleaning company following the previous feedback and they are allocating us different cleaners, so hopefully this will no longer be an issue. The vacuum cleaner in the property is for guests’ use, but I will ask the cleaners to ensure that it is emptied regularly. Thank you for pointing out that the beds in the single room need new bedding. This is something that we will purchase shortly. I am not sure how rubbish got under the single beds as they are not on wheels and do not move. With regards to the parking, we have been aware for many years that most modern cars don’t fit in the garage. The cottage is not advertised as having off-road or private parking and the listing clearly states, “roadside parking on first come, first served basis or in free car park 1 min walk away. Secure bike storage in lockable garage.” The “before you leave home” section of our online guestbook (which I can see you accessed many times prior to your stay) also says, "you can often park opposite, but if there is no space, please park in the car park of the old school (just past the Bakehouse) or on River Walk." The television is via Freesat and streaming services. There are labelled remote controls for each and again there are instructions in the online guest book and also in the information folder located in the cottage. I am glad that you liked Llantwit Major. I agree that it is a fabulous area. We would always encourage our guests to contact us if they encounter any problems. Property Owner

"We had a really lovely holiday."
The area is lovely and we saw some nice places. The village has everything you need with plenty of amenities. The only disappointing thing was the cottage. It had all the things you needed but it needed a really deep clean. The pots and pans needed to be washed before I could use them and the cupboards were very dirty. The whole cottage looked like it could do with a repaint, the bathroom needs a new shower head and a new toilet seat. With these things updated we would consider booking this property again. All the information sent was also very helpful.
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad that you enjoyed the area. It is a lovely location for a holiday. I have passed your comments onto our cleaning company, and they are allocating us different cleaners, so hopefully this will no longer be an issue. We are redecorating over the summer. We have replaced the shower head and will replace the toilet seat. I hope that we will see you again. Property Owner

"Everything you could possibly need is here from superb beaches to photography addicts, quaint local pubs 200yds away, great local food, and the comfort of the old bake house."
It has everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible and more. Thank you for sharing your house with us again, hopefully see you again,
Thank you for your lovely feedback. I’m so glad that you had another enjoyable stay. Llantwit Major is a great place to visit at any time of year. The beach can be particularly dramatic in the winter. Property Owner

"Overall the location and facilities were spot on - a bit dated but the house was functional and a good size."
What really stood out was the cleanliness - while it would be harsh to label the house dirty it would seem only a surface clean has been done over a long period of time. The amount of dust on the skirtings and the sheer number of spiders and webs made the stay a bit uncomfortable.
Thank you for your feedback. I’m am very sorry that the cleanliness was not up to standard. I passed your comments onto our cleaning company. I hope you still managed to enjoy your stay in beautiful Llantwit Major. Property Owner

"A lovely comfortable place to stay."
Ideally located in the old centre of the town. Easy access to shops, restaurants, pubs, and to the walks through countryside to the beach.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. It sounds like you explored the local area thoroughly. The pretty town and surrounding countryside and beaches make it the perfect location for a holiday. Property Owner

"Excellent location and attractive property."
A little tired and in need of some updating. good baby facilities available. Nice village with many pubs. Brilliant if you like walking or cycling and Barry Island nearby.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Since you stayed, we have had the sofas reupholstered, so they are much more comfortable. I'm glad you enjoyed the local pubs and Barry Island is a great place to visit for all ages. Property Owner

"The property is ideally located in the middle of Llantwit Major within easy reach of the pubs and restaurants and the open plan layout offers plenty of space."
However, this is the third time I have stayed at the Old Bakehouse, twice in 2019 and this visit, and I think the only thing that has changed in that time is the key safe code. The interior would benefit from a coat of paint, the kitchen a face lift and the uncomfortable sofa's replacing. There is a mish mash of glasses/plates/cups etc, all of which required washing prior to use. As I said at the start, an ideal location but in need of some TLC.
Thank you for your feedback. We have now replaced the crockery and have had the sofas reupholstered, so I hope your next visit is more comfortable. Property Owner

"I have given five stars because I have been all over the world and I know what my expectations are, Great cottage, booked it allrready for next year."
The seats on the suite are past there best, it really wasn’t that clean on arrival but two hours and that was sorted, the three of us got stuck in. Great supply of everything you need in a family house, more to do tha my home, Very cosy cottage, easy parking, comfortable beds, warm, great takeaway service for the area, excellent bathrooms facilities, and a superb vantage point for travelling to the amazing gower peninsular, thanks for all the things to make our stay superb Debbie, if you print this please take out the cleaning bit . It was probably an oversight, it happened. Thank you so much,
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. I'm sorry that there was an issue with the cleaning on your arrival. Since your visit, we have had the sofas reupholstered and they are like new! We look forwards to welcoming you back again next year. Property Owner

"Absolutely lovely cottage in a gorgeous, friendly and well-provided-for town."
Lots of nearby pubs, takeaways, shops and cafés, and the kitchen is very well equipped too so you have the choice of cooking and eating in. Some lovely little touches in the cottage itself like the beach equipment in the garage, board games and books for rainy days, and very comfortable furniture and beds. The whole family loved it and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I am so glad that your whole family enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

"Great value for money cottage in a gorgeous village setting."
The cottage worked brilliantly for our family (3 boys aged 8 and under). The open plan layout downstairs was great, and they loved sharing a bedroom with their own single beds. We highly recommend this cottage.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I am so glad that you and your boys enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

"We stay at the property regularly and always have an enjoyable and comfortable stay."
The cottage is in a good village location, well equipped and homely. There is a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants within the village which means that you don't need to travel far should you choose not to.

"I was a solo traveller, using the apartment as a base to visit a frail friend who lives locally."
It is easy to find: a very attractive, pleasingly decorated, airy apartment. The house was very, very cold when I arrived late afternoon (end of January). It took a couple of days for the heating to even start to warm the place adequately, especially the open-plan downstairs area, and the bathroom. The floors downstairs (kitchen and living room) felt especially cold (if you suffer from cold feet, pack a pair of warm slippers). The stairs (polished wood) are stylish, but slippery (so, take particular care when using them). I'd travelled a long way, got caught in traffic, and arrived slightly later than expected: I would have appreciated a few complimentary tea bags and milk and sugar in the kitchen (most places, in my experience, provide this minimum of hospitality as a welcoming gesture). The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable and the abundance of fresh towels were greatly appreciated. This isn't a cheap apartment for one person, but would provide good value for a family. If I make a return visit, I'd probably choose to come back in the summer.

"An excellent cottage in a great location, with easy access to the beach and coast."
The village has a wide range of restaurants and there is easy access to shops, which are within walking distance. The property is well equipped and comfortable, which always makes for a great stay. The owner goes the extra mile to ensure that everything meets expectation and there is help on hand if needed. This was our second stay and our next is booked already!

"The Cottage is very Beautiful and cozy."
It was a pleasure to stay there. It was clean and we found all we need for stay. It exceeded our expectations. The Old Bakehouse is a very good place for trips to Cardiff, to the beach and to the mountains. The People are really friendly and it is a good place for dogs. We really enjoyed our hollidays.

"Disappointing on arrival as we had requested the superkingsize bed which was not made up."
The cottage was very spacious but could really do with some TLC, most of the doors were really chipped and scratched, the walls in most of the rooms were badly marked, the settees were really uncomfortable and when we first arrived there was quite a musty smell to the place. There were also cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom! On the positive side, the beds were really comfortable and the location is lovely. There is lots to see and do in the area and it is very convenient for getting a train from the cottage. In my opinion if the cottage just had a deep clean, a lick of paint throughout and an upgrade on the settees, then it would be just perfect.

"Very clean and comfortable, nice area, lovely walks."

"We enjoyed our Break at the Old Bakehouse."
It was lovely to enter a warm, welcoming home, after a day of travelling in cold weather. The house is comfortable and has a nice outlook within the heart of Llantwit Major. The village centre is picturesque, with modern day facilities nearby. There is good access to countryside, coast and city from this location.

"The home was extremely spacious and felt like a real home."
So many apartments that I stay in have tried to squeeze everything in but this holiday home was perfect to relax in.
-
"Good directions by owner as we would have had difficulty finding it otherwise as it was dark and raining when we arrived."
Nice and spacious, well located for our purpose which was visiting friends. It was very quiet which was great. Would recommend and would hopefully come back again to visit.

"This cottage was very comfortable and welcoming."
The kitchen was very well appointed. Our dog settled in straight away and our Grandson loved all the toys that were there. Llantwit Major is a lovely village with everything there if you just want to stay local but central for exploring wider areas. We have already booked to return next June as we enjoyed it so much.

Llantwit Major is a wonderful old village and a great base from which to explore all that South Wales offers. We will definitely look to book this cottage again on our next visit.

House was good but could do with a little refurbishment especially the bathroom shower in the centre of the bath makes it difficult to move.

"We had an excellent time."
The cottage was both quaint and modern and very comfortable for all the family. Really well kept and looked after. The places we wanted to go were not far at all so definitely an excellent location to visit the beaches, castles and other beautiful sights within barely 20-30 minutes distance. Bedrooms - nice, clean and tidy. Very comfortable beds and pillows allowing us to drop off straightaway.
