  • "We had a lovely week at the cottage, with our two dogs."

One is terrified of fireworks, and the cottage was rural and peaceful (but easy to get out and about and made a good base), which is why we went this time of year (over Bonfire night). Cottage had everything we needed in a beautiful setting. Dave and Rose were fab. Highly recommend, we intend to go back

  • "We had such a lovely time."

The cottage was immaculate and great views. We would have stayed longer if we could. Thank you so much. Only suggestions was maybe add a kids safety lock on the twin room window, but I appreciate not everyone comes with small children. Is there anyway a footpath could be made during times that the horses and sheep are in fields, as we didn’t really want to drive anywhere, and limited to walk with dog.

  • "Upon review I think giving this property a 4 star is generous however a 3 star would be considered a little harsh."

As a staycation couple I would say that in general we were relatively underwhelmed by the property and the experience. We found that whilst the surrounding area was beautiful and the space that you had access to was a bonus, the price was not relative to the experience itself. Upon a 5pm check in (which is quite late) the cottage didn’t feel ready, it had supposedly been cleaned before a late arrival however, the hot tub was green and smelled of stagnant water. There was a strong sour smell coming from the kitchen which we soon discovered to be a bowl of what could only be described as human vomit which was located in a bowl in the kitchen cupboard. I would advise, bringing your own condiments as there was no salt, pepper, sugar ect… it is also worth bringing kitchen roll and toilet paper as minimal quantities of this are provided to guests with no replacements. For the overall price, we felt that you pay a lot for a quite limited, underwhelming and poorly equipped property. That being said, if you don’t mind packing the car as if you’re going camping, this property is perfect!!

The weather wasn’t great to begin with but just sitting on the patio or in the kitchen enjoying the fantastic views of the fields, mountains, watching the clouds rolling across the sky, watching the sheep & the farmer cutting grass not to mention the horses, foal and one vey adorable donkey who my daughter just loved was fantastic, very relaxing & very quickly had us in full holiday mode. We brought our four dogs with us & are very grateful to the owners for allowing this as holiday destinations of this calibre that allow this number of pets are like gold dust. The owners are very friendly and easily findable whenever needed for all those things you inadvertently forget. We enjoyed our stay so much that we booked a return visit for November and are looking forward to experiencing such an idyllic holiday destination in the winter months.

Super to be in the countryside and especially with hot tube and views. Kitchen stocked with excellent equipment. Sofas are a bit uncomfortable . Pillows thin and mattress could have been firmer. Lovely location and owners always around to chat with. The only downside was the three owners dogs who came hurtling towards our dogs everyone we went out to the car or returned back to property Our rescue dogs were nervous and it did become a bit difficulty for us. The owner always called them back and no incident ever took place. But it did cause us a bit of concern . Complete security on patio area for dogs to be outside with us. If you want to chill this is just perfect. Brecon 4 miles away so close to for shopping . Would our party of the people and three dogs go back ? For us it would be a no.

Hi Penny, thank you for your lovely comments and useful feedback, which we have taken onboard. With regards our collies, this was never mentioned during our many chats about all our animals here and your beautiful rescues, so it pains me to now learn that they were causing you difficulty. We are very sorry for this inconvenience and especially any distress to your dogs! Had it been mentioned, we would have absolutely ensured suitable arrangements were made. We hope you are all safe and well, it was a pleasure hosting you! Dave Property Owner

The house had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The beds were all comfy and facilities were good. Loved the large country kitchen table with the beautiful views over the Brecon Beacons. There are tiled floors throughout the ground floor so would definitely recommend slippers or thick socks in the winter months! It's in a quiet location just a short drive from Brecon - good directions from Dave and Rose were helpful in finding the cottage. Lots of lovely walks and a good base from exploring this part of Wales. We would happily return to Caecrwn Brecon itself is well worth a visit as is Abergavenny. A little off the beaten track we would recommend The Castle Inn at Llangorse - about half an hour away - for the most fantastic Sunday lunch we've had in years!

  • "Words and pictures do not do this place justice - it's first class and I cannot recommend it highly enough."

I booked a last-minute stay for 7 nights. Communication with the owners was very easy, and I was provided easy directions although sat-nav took me straight there. On arrival, I received a warm welcome from the owner and a comprehensive tour of the property and features. It was spotlessly clean and felt spacious yet incredibly homely. The location is stunning - well away from the main road, in a valley, with lovely views of fields and woodland. It's very peaceful and stars at night put on a real show. The hot-tub is a proper hot-tub which the owner maintains well, and has a genuine rock 'n' roll insulation cover to keep the temperature stable at night. Kitchen is stocked with good equipment and the fridge freezer was large enough for us only to do one shop all week. The lounge has a good woodburner and cozy ambient lighting. The selection of board games was a lovely touch and we enjoyed time away from the television! All three bedrooms were supremely comfortable, well insulated, and well equipped. The bathrooms have excellent showers. The home has central heating which heats all radiators across two zones and the hot water. It can be thermostatically controlled and has timers and boost settings. The house is so well insulated and warm that we barely needed to use it. The house is situated a few miles north of Brecon. There are lots of things to do locally. If you want to burn some energy off, I recommend climbing Pen y Ffan from the nearby north approach which is much quieter than the south route. At nearly 3,000 ft, it is a spectacular walk from start to finish and well worth a day out. We can't wait to come back to Caecrwn and would not hesitate to others.

  • "The property was on the whole very clean, comfortable and owners very friendly."

A couple of minor points which the owner may not be aware of - - The sofas were not very comfortable, it seems that the base seat cushions had gone really flat over time. (particularly the centre sofa where you can feel the wooden frame when sitting down) - We took both our dogs and were informed the could go on the lawn area down the steps from the patio. We always clean up after our dogs but were a little disappointed that there was already a large amount of dog waste on the grass. This could be from the previous guests and I did pick up several bags over a couple of days. - The lounge and kitchen seemed very cold at night even though the heating was on. The two small radiators in the very large lounge just didnt do the trick and so we did have to use the log burner every night to be comfortable. As I say these are minor points but I think its always useful to give all feedback so the owners are aware. This will in no way stop us recommending the property and in all our stay was very nice. The bed in the master bedroom was amazing and so comfortable, house was extremely well equipped and the hot tub was a massive bonus.

Thank you for letting us know Neil. I will get these sorted. Thank you. Property Owner

Exactly as described. Is even bigger in person than the pictures appear. Nice large living room with plenty of seating and a big table in the kitchen. Three toilets in the cottage altogether. Lovely big hot tub. There was plenty of room with 5 of us in there. Could easily fit 6 and still have space! Nice enclosed back garden for the dog to happily run around in, and to say hello to the horses on the field underneath! The views are absolutely incredible, you can see the rolling hills of the Beacons from all around. Short drive to Brecon town where we hired a canal boat and had pub lunches/drinks. Aldis and Morrisons there too. The cathedral is super lovely and has a garden cafe. The only down points (which weren't big at all!) Was there were only a few complimentary teabags, and only a few loo rolls. We had to go out and get more of these supplies, which I've never had to do when staying places before, but it was a minor inconvenience. And there was only a small recycling box underneath the sink and nowhere for us to empty it. So we started filling up boxes etc with our recycling, which was obviously a bit of a pain with the dog sniffing about. We didn't really have hot water all week, it was lukewarm at best, but we used the hot tub to warm up so wasn't too much of an issue. But honestly these were minor things. Everything else was super perfect and I would definitely come back again so thank you to the hosts! Perfect way to spend my birthday :)

The beds were very comfortable and the whole house was exceptionally clean. My only down points were that we couldn't get in the hot tub on arrival day as it had been cleaned and was cold , this was very disappointing as we were only staying for two nights. The other point was it was very cold in the house in the evenings, it was cold outside, but the heating was inadequate, we even had the log fire going but was still cold. I would go back but in warmer times of the year.

Thank you for your comments Deborah. I am sorry that the hot tub was not ready for you on the evening of your arrival. We have high standards for the hygiene and water quality of our hot tub and we always want our guests to have the best possible experience. When we are not satisfied that those standards are met we have but a few hours between guests to empty, clean, refill and chemically balance it, and although we do these things as quickly as possible it still, unfortunately, takes 12-16 hours to heat. We have looked at the heating and we have spent a good amount of time balancing and servicing the radiators throughout, and we believe this has helped it along and now doing the job it is meant to. We wish you all the best, Rose and Dave Property Owner

  • "Directions to cottage need improving."

On arrival the cottage was very cold - no heating on or fire lit. Had to ask owner to increase thermostat control. This is a cottage in Brecon in January and heating is required. Some items in the cottage were broken before we arrived and the main cooker broke whilst we were there. None of these jobs were sorted before we left. We have stayed in this cottage before under a different owner and there was more attention to detail then. Not sure if we will return.

Thank you for your feedback Phillip, it is greatly appreciated. We are reviewing the directions to the Cottage based on your comments; Caecrwn Cottage is pinned on Google Maps and we encourage guests to use that, as the postcode will drop you off at another farm. We make sure the cottage is fully cleaned between guests, and as per Covid safety measures for both our cleaners and our guests this does mean fully airing the rooms which leads to a drop in temperature. We apologise that the Cottage had not got back up to full temperature by the time of your arrival. (Regretfully we cannot light unattended fires, although that would be a lovely welcoming sight!) It was incredibly unfortunate that the main oven broke during your stay, and that the new oven was only able to be delivered on the day of your departure, we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience this caused you. The other broken items - the patio light and a heated towel rail - have been booked in with an electrician for some time, which we only attend to when the Cottage is vacant, to avoid disturbing guests. Again we apologise for any inconvenience that their absence caused during your stay. All the best, Rose and Dave x Property Owner

From the moment we stepped into the property, we felt like were at home. The cleanliness was amazing with not a single fault to be found anywhere. The beds were very comfortable and a great nights sleep was had by all. Great detail is given to make the rooms as warm and enticing as possible. The living area had enough seating so that the 5 of us were very comfortably sat around the log fire to chat or watch TV. The owners Dave and Rose met us on arrival and then left us to our privacy, but made sure we knew they were on hand should we need them. They were very helpful when we couldn't get the TV to work and even though it was 9.30pm, Dave came and sorted the problem out for us. We could not have asked for better service than that. The kitchen was a fabulous size and had everything you needed to dine as a family and every utensil you needed was provided. The most amazing thing about the weekend was the jacuzzi hot tub which was enjoyed thoroughly by us all. Sitting in there, relaxing with stunning views was just what we needed, and although the rain showers continued, they didn't put us off enjoying ourselves. I only wish we had booked for longer. The location is very secluded, although on a working farm. The closest shop was about 4 miles away, so not too far, but as we were only there for the weekend, we wanted to make the most of it so took all our food with us. I think if Dave & Rose had a couple of souvenirs, which could be bought it would be fantastic. This is not a negative, but just an idea. I love to take home a fridge magnet/ keyring/ mug, of every place I visit and because we just wanted to relax we didn't go out and about. We all enjoyed this place so much that we hope to book again as soon as we can and I would highly recommend the property and customer service of these hosts.
