  • "Our second stay at Bank House and it was absolutely delightful."

This really is a little gem and its location is superb, remote enough to be away from hustle and bustle yet within easy distance of Cardigan and Carmarthen and their respective coasts. The fully enclosed patio makes it a joy for dog owners as escape is nigh on impossible and they can be let out without any anxiety. Jenny is the perfect host, close enough if you need anything but not intrusive (and the lemon drizzle cake was lovely) Bank House is definitely now on our list of destinations for a relaxing week away.

  • "A beautiful cottage for 2 or 3 people."

Very comfortable and well furnished. The main bedroom with its vaulted ceiling is a delight and a lot of thought has gone into the room lighting. The kitchen is well equipped with items such as electronic scales not usually found in holiday lets. The only small criticism was that the cooking utensils such as pans and bowls were sized for a larger group not a couple. The internet was very poor during my stay, worse than dial up, and I had no 3G phone connectivity. The owner says this is being addressed so hopefully others will have a better service. All in all a wonderful cottage with a delightful, helpful owner which I’d be happy to visit again.

Thank you David for your kind comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in the cottage. You will be glad to know that I have now changed provider for wifi and the cottage now offers a much improved service with BT- fibre. Jenny Property Owner

Be aware that if you rely on the internet for business purposes or keeping in touch with international family the service at Bank House is very inadequate, however if you are after a complete get away this is not an issue. As Aussies we appreciated the Australian Shiraz too Jenny. Thank you for a very comfortable stay.

Dear Lynda, I’m so glad you had a comfortable stay in Bank House and I’m sorry that you found the internet inadequate. We are in a rural area so don’t receive quite the same internet speeds you might be used to in the city but the service is generally very adequate for streaming movies etc. Jenny Property Owner

What a wonderful haven from the everyday hustle and bustle this place is, and Jenny (the owner) is lovely. Hadn’t been to this area of Wales for 30 years, and I don’t think we could have picked a better place to stay. Nice secure patio area for the dog to be able to go outside, and the cottage is laid out beautifully. Hunkering down with the log burner blazing on days where the weather was against us was absolute bliss. Definitely one to book again when we decide to revisit the area, five stars aren’t enough.

  • "Beautiful & cosy cottage in a lovely village location, lovely aspect completely unoverlooked with beautiful open views to the rear of the property."

Once you're inside you don't feel like you're in a terrace, the exterior walls (16" thick) and deep double glazing keeping out all noise from outside. Not that there was much as it's such a peaceful spot, but during our stay workmen arrived to carry out some maintenance on the electricity cables in the village and about 12 of them turned up in about 6 vehicles with a generator which was set up near the little green opposite the cottage, and we didn't hear a thing, we woke naturally and when I pulled the curtain back I couldn't believe all the activity. They were only there a day but it certainly put the soundproofing of the cottage to the test! This is one of the best & most thoughtfully equipped cottages we have ever stayed in, there wasn't anything we needed that wasn't provided - even tea & coffee and tin foil, cling film & kitchen roll. And there were even dog bowls & treats provided for your four-legged friend. Lovely & clean and a super bathroom with impressive shower - great water pressure too! The personal touches like lemon cake, wine & eggs from the owner's chickens were greatly appreciated. We didn't use the log burner in the end as the central heating was so efficient and we even had to turn several of the radiators down. Loved the charming & cosy decor and particularly loved the artisan rustic furniture, all very in keeping with the lovely character of the cottage. Very comfortable king size bed. Lovely dog walk straight from the door down a traffic free lane, all the way down to the river, but be warned, you have to climb back up! Newcastle Emlyn 10 mins drive away, lots of lovely shops including a butcher, an organic produce shop where we bought some artisan sourdough bread. The Cardigan Bay coastline is 30 mins drive away & we had a lovely coastal path walk to Tresaith. All in all, an excellently equipped, delightfully cosy cottage in a peaceful, get-away-from-it-all village setting but only 10 mins from 'civilization' and 30 mins to lovely beaches. Perfect for a couple or a couple with one child/teenager. Can't recommend highly enough. We will be back!

Don’t take dogs if you try to impose these rules… the stair carpet needed replacing and the bedroom curtains had holes in them also the hand rail was really sticky as if it had been repainted and as the stairs are quite steep you really need the rail so as not to trip, the cottage is a distance from shops etc and is quite isolated would not recommend

I am sorry that your experience of staying in Bank House was not all that you hoped for. However in the description it clearly states that the nearest town with shops is 3.3 miles away and that Capel Iwan is a small hamlet. There is a map available which shows the location which is always helpful when choosing a cottage so that visitors are not disappointed or surprised on arrival. Researching the area would have shown that there is a Chapel nearby and so of course a graveyard on the far side of the village green. Unfortunately whist I knew you were bringing one dog which is permitted at this cottage you brought two. In all Sykes properties, not just mine, no dogs are allowed upstairs or on the furnishings. These are simple requests which take into account that some guests may have allergies to pets. Unfortunately you did allow your dogs to go upstairs and so created a lot of work to clear up the mess that was left. Property Owner
