  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

But as older people it was a long drive. We intended our stay to be in July and if that had happened it would have been great but circumstances made us change and then the weather was against us. Would very much recommend the Den for people a bit more active than us.

Much appreciated access to fields and closeness to pub and Llansteffan beach and facilities. Bed very comfortable and we enjoyed the woodburner in the evening. An electric kettle would help as we found the kettle provided very heavy. Also a cafetiere would have been useful.

Reassuring to have a large enclosed garden as we has a boisterous boxer! Amazing views. Garden also has barbecue and firepit. Everything in the Den to make your stay comfortable. The hosts are welcoming and friendly, opening a little bar on a Fri and sat evening at the rear of their home. A very short distance away in llansteffan is a dog friendly beach which is all year round. We will definitely return. Thank you

Unfortunately the sofa was uncomfortable and the kettle was big and heavy, almost too much for Lynn, the whistle did remind us of family camping holidays. Relaxing and tranquil the most beautiful scenery. Sian and Matt are wonderful hosts with fresh eggs on arrival. They are there if you need them but allow your privacy. Dog friendly which was a must for us, huge secure garden at the back and large front gravel private drive also secure. Beautiful log burner, everything you need in the kitchen even down to a can opener and grater. A small family run bar on site provided live entertainment on the Saturday night. Acres of ground to run the dog on and wander the countryside. The most beautiful quiet beach less than a 20 min walk or 5 min drive away with free parking and if required like us a car charger. The castle was a lovely walk quiet steep and maybe not ideal for someone with mobility issues. Although only a few miles away from Carmarthen this place feels like its completely excluded from the outside world exactly what we needed. Thanks again Sian and Matt and sorry we took the soap from the kitchen by accident. Claire, Mark and Marley will be back very soon.

Both the back garden and the front Garden was very safe for both our 2 whippets, with lovely views from the back garden and sunny seating area. The beach at LLansteffan is great for the dogs and we enjoyed the visit to the castle with free entrance, dogs included. We found the walk to LLansteffan very steep, we are not regular walkers (just normal dog walks) so it took us at least 40 mins. The facilities are very good and very clean. Sian greeted us on our arrival, they give you plenty of privacy, and there if you need them. The only negative was that the sofa was not very comfy and too low for us. It’s got everything you need for 2 of you, and only 2 miles from the village. The first cottage I’ve been to that actually IS fully secure for dogs. We have a determined jack russell and even through his best efforts he couldn’t escape. He loved the big back garden. The bed is the comfiest I’ve slept in in a long time too. The only critism I have (which the owner probably isn’t even aware of) is the pans have no non stick left, making cooking and cleaning them a bit tricky as everything sticks. Other than that, it was perfect.

Storage space in the bedroom and kitchen is excellent plus the kitchen benefits from having a full sized fridge/freezer, dish washer and everything you require for self catering. The cottage was exactly as we expected and the garden exceeded our expectations. With two labradors with us it meant we could relax when letting them out in the garden as it was not just enclosed, but secure. Having a gated entrance was also a bonus as we didn’t have to put the dogs on leads to get them in and out of the car, this made the holiday so much better for us. The doggy towels were also a bonus as we did have quite a lot of rain. Llansteffan beach was superb for walking, great fish and chips from Florries in the car park. LLansteffan is so handy, and has a lovely beach where we walked our dogs every morning. It is so peaceful, and you can see the ferry going back and forth to Ferryside. May be one comment would be helpful to others is advice to call in at Tescos in Carmarthen before arriving at Llansteffan as the village stores had very little to offer and was not open always.

The cottage is just right. The gardens are good as when it was wet the dogs went in the front garden and when it was dry they run around the long back garden which was great when dry. A five minute drive and we were on the beach local shop the post office you can get by with but only open 8.30am to 2.30pm, a must to remember. We all had a lovely time us two adults and are two dogs, which got on with there two dogs

Very well equipped and everything had been considered. The surroundings were just as described on the website which was what attracted us to booking this cottage. Matt and Sian (the owners) were very helpful without being intrusive. Loved the farm surroundings, excellent view from the garden. Convenient location for places of interest, including the "Farmers Arms" which is a very short walk away, providing good valued food/plenty of choice and friendly staff. Very good value for money, would definitely recommend this to other couples, especially if you have dogs as there are a good choice of walks

  • "Lovely cottage - small but thoughtfully designed, beautifully decorated and very comfortable."

For dog owners there is a large grassed garden fully dog proofed, which also has fantastic views over the estuary. Pub within walking distance serves good meals (dogs allowed in bar) or take away. We found the wi fi and phone reception a bit intermittent but that's our only negative. The owners are lovely - nothing too much trouble - and new laid eggs are great for breakfast! Location: ideal for exploring the Camarthen and Pembroke coasts and inland but you do need to drive back up to the A40 - though the road is good. Locally there are walks around Llan y bri and LlanLlansteffan which is a small but pretty seaside resort with excellent Tea Rooms and great view across the estuary. The estuaries are great for bird watchers.

The property

This delightful, 19th Century solid stone ground floor cottage is situated next to the owners farmhouse and adjacent to a small certified location caravan site in a tranquil 28 acre smallholding on the outskirts of the rural villages of Llansteffan/Llanybri.

With acres of rolling hills and a panoramic uninterrupted coastal views of Laugharne and Caldey Island, Fferm Heol Down Farm was previously an ancient hamlet and is set in peaceful surroundings where you can get back to nature and enjoy slow paced village life. The Den is a luxury self-contained annex, situated in an original part of the farmhouse at Fferm Heol Down Farm.

Contemporary yet full of character, this spacious ground floor cottage has exposed stone walls, wooden beams, complimentary wifi, fully fitted kitchen and a wood burning fire.

The Den also has its own entrance, parking and garden for individuals and couples who want complete isolation from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! From the rear of the property, you can enjoy superb, panoramic far-reaching views of the countryside and in particular landmarks such as Caldey Island and the infamous Dylan Thomas' Boathouse in Laugharne.

At night, the rural location of The Den makes it an ideal location to stargaze and admire the pretty far away lights of Laugharne Town reflecting off the estuary water. The all year round, dog friendly Llansteffan Beach is just a 20 minute walk/5 minute drive, so you can easily enjoy long walks or relax with local fish and chips on the beach.

The Wales Coastal Path can be accessed from Llansteffan Beach or within a 15 minute walk from The Den.

This cottage is ideal for keen walkers and those who enjoy exploring the outdoors with their four legged friends. For those who want to eat out, the nearest pub/restaurant is a 5 minute walk from the cottage and specialises in authentic Thai cuisine.

The village of Llansteffan hosts more pub/restuarants and has a few cafe's, local village shop and two art galleries. Situated in Carmarthen, the heart of West Wales, The Den has an ideal central location to explore the whole of South West Wales including Pembrokeshire and the Gower Peninsula.

Carmarthen is also the oldest Town in Wales and steeped in history.

Arthurian enthusiastists will be aware that Carmarthen is widely known as the birthplace of the legendary wizard, Merlin and there are many things to discover locally.

Carmarthen is just a 20 minute drive from The Den and further boasts a wide selection of shops, restaurants and pubs.

For those who do not wish to drive, The Den is situated on a bus route with daily buses into Carmarthen.
