  • "Great location!"

I had a good stay as i used mainly as a base. About 20 sec walk to beach which is stunning. Great price wouldn't want to pay more due to some issues with property. Responsive owner when I reported fridge faulty, brought out a counter top fridge same day and replaced with new next day. So was very happy with that. He also brought key to bleed radiators to see if would help with noisy pipes, but didn't resolve it. I was advised that thermostat on radiator would help manage bedroom temp, but it didnt di anything just remained on. Was very hot in bedrooms and cold in lounge, but it us a 1920s property, so bring a jumper. Long standing issues I now see from other reviews: 1. No Internet - was informed after I had messaged it was down when owners checked the website, but this remained all week. 2. Double bed very small and mattress depressed one side but fine for 1. 3. Noisy heating. 4. No seal at base of shower screen so have to mop floor after shower. 5. Watch your toes going into bathroom..I didn't spot the lip twice. But once your aware its fine. 6. Perhaps just some written instructions would be good on what to do with heating, thankfully I knew, but owner did mention so knew there is a problem. 7. General damp smell to property but not surprising with age and location. It had been cleaned well, though still evidence of damp in window sills. Having said all of the above i became quite fond of the bungalow by the end, mainly due to is location.

It Can be a little noisy first thing but,you are in the heart of saundersfoot. The comments about damp /mouldy I disagree completely with, very warm toasty cottage.Yes the boiler drops pressure(perhaps info and instructions could be left by boiler-mine does this at home so I had no problem) . It is a fantastic cottage in a brilliant location with excellent pricing,so much so I've already booked again for next year.I had an amazing week,so thank you. I did have to contact owner once ,due to me being a bit blind about finding thermostat and she was lovely and helpful, thank you also for welcome package, nice little treat.5 stars from me x

  • "Amazing location, you can just about see the sea from the cottage, the beach is literally across the road!"

!! Cutest cottage, bigger than you think!! Had a lovely holiday (we know saundersfoot like the back of our hand!) Originally booked it with our elderly dog in mind, sadly he passed shotlrtly after booking, he'd have loved his stay, as the area is perfect for dogs! Things to be aware of (especially for elderly guests) I'm doing this to be helpful, not nasty, as this place is very nice! The water pressure drops by morning, so there's no hot water (you'd need to call maintenance) there's no individual chairs for elderly to watch TV, the sofas are situated side-on, so may be uncomfortable (there are dining chairs however) the bathroom window is impossible to close & is set way up high, if you're elderly, you simply have no chance of opening it, a you'd need to stand on the bath, not advisable. Its like a ship port hole window!!! Please be very aware of the glass shower screen, as it collides with the sink..really NOT good. Bathroom mirror is set about 5ft 9" high, too high for us, but doubles as a handy cabinet!! (I guess the owners are tall!) I luckily brought a travel mirror! A full length, or half body mirror would be a great addition!!! Shelving is of an absolute minimum, the bathroom has none, except for the edges of the bath. The lip where the bathroom slate floor, meets the hallway floor needs addressing, especially if you shuffle when walking (they've put a ridge on the kitchen floor to address this, but not the bathroom) The cupboards in the double bedroom are unfortunately fitted in a way that they collide, especially the ones to the right side of the bad, so they jam when trying to open the top draw, not a big deal though, but very obviously not right!! The kitchen cupboards are storage for existing equipment, so your storage for food is an open shelf, also set high, so that might bother you, certainly didn't bother us as the kitchen is clean, with no flys or creatures, so not an issue, (I did read it in other reviews, but it didn't bother us). Beds are clean, bright & very comfy, peaceful location by night, lively in the early morning as its on an obvious running route through to Wisemams bridge, which I used it myself, this area is great for running!! The utility room is fab! It has a freezer/washer/dryer which can be so handy, especially as our stay featured some rain!!! Parking permit included! None of the issues are gonna spoil your stay, we had a lovely holiday!! We really like this cottage, we'd certainly books it again & we'd tell others about it too:)

  • "Like previous comments i've read, the property is in need of some refurbishment."

This is the second year we've have stayed at the property and although our overall experience was very good, it could have been better if the following issues, which appear to be longstanding and were the same last time we stayed, had been resolved. 1.The hot water tap on the bathroom sink didn't work. 2. Advertised as having WiFi, ideal for the kids but this doesn't actually work. 3. The hall radiator was leaking. 4. The boiler has a leak, so keeps losing pressure, so the supply of hot water, especially for showering, is not consistent. 5. There is a strong musky smell throughout the cottage. Despite the above, the cottage does have lots of positive features, including its prime location, and so much potential. It's just a pitty it lets itself down with some basic issues that could be easily fixed,

First of all no heating working on arrival, I phoned the Ower, was told what to do, boiler worked for while , phoned few more time and was advised to contact the caretaker, which we did, was then told he'd be there in the following morning, I phoned then on Sunday morning and he arrived within 5 minutes, he showed me what to do with the boiler, which I had to top up the pressure at least 6/7 times a day , I also complained to him about the damp smell that was in the cottage , and the leak on the boiler and the radiator in the hall way, also said about the wardrobe door only had one hinge holding the door on , and the filthy bathroom, he said to phone sykes, also no WiFi, not a very nice stay at all , between damp smell and mould on dinning table legs , nowhere to but our food because no food cupboards, I've also taken photos of these complaints, also double bed is actually 4ft bed not double, which smelt of damp when you moved , 1 sofa also smelt of damp, the sofa by the window was okay because there was a small round electric heater behind it ,

  • "This cottage has so much but potential and the location is absolutely fantastic."

However, it is in need of some refurbishment. I read the two previous reviews and also contacted Sykes who assured me owner was informed of reviews and issues. As it was ideal for us we went ahead and in fact enjoyed our time. But - the hot water tap didn’t work. Mentioned in review of Oct 22! I did speak to Caretaker who told me plumber was waiting for a part. - since Oct 22?? I don’t think so. Also no WiFi . Again told BT engineer called the previous Friday and although we actually saw an engineer 500 yds down the road nothing was fixed. The hall radiator was leaking and the boiler keeps losing pressure so no hot water or heating unless you re pressure it! Again these two things were mentioned in previous review of Oct 22! It’s a shame as bedrooms/bedding was immaculate and bathroom very modern but the floors needed a good clean. I did note that the cottage is listed for sale on Rightmove since last Oct so maybe that is a reason why it has been left. It’s such a shame as I said it could be such a lovely place. I wouldn’t want to pay the prices charged in the next few months for this cottage though unless the essentials were put right.

We opened the windows had to put the heating on ourselves. We hoped this would help. This problem plus the pipes banging all night let this lovely ideally located cottage down. Positives ideally located for coastal path walkers and Disabled as it is a bungalow. Anyone who has a disability can jet off to Amroth on the beach call in at wisemans. Safe for dogs you can open door and leave dog. Owners you have a gem hope you can sort the issues including the grill and hot tap. We had an amazing week including the morning swims.

The heating was OFF and there were NO instructions as to how we might change this, it was rectified by mid-morning on MONDAY by simply turning the tap on the boiler to top up the pressure. (We could have done this ourselves had there been information). The radiator in the passageway was leaking, the TV we couldn't get to work properly, the bed in the main bedroom was at best a large SINGLE, there was NO HOT WATER to the wash basin, the window in the bathroom wouldn't shut and the cabinet mirror was 5'8"above the floor. THERE WAS BLACK MOULD THROUGH-OUT THE HOUSE and it STANK. Checking previous reviews, NOTHING here is NEW. Interestingly they have now been DELETED.

The property smelt of mould as soon as you opened the door, there were cobwebs everywhere, and not fresh ones, every time you used the tap there was an horrendous noise from air trapped in the pipes, the radiator was leaking in the hall, there was public hair at the base of the toilet, the bathroom smelt of stale pee, the tap in the bathroom was constantly on, whenever you put the shower on the noise from the trapped air was horrendous, the bathroom window wouldn't close and there was still soap left on the window sil from the previous tennant, the handles were broken on the cupboard door and the coffee table, sleeping in the main bedroom your feet were hanging over the edge, after a few days we'd had enough so left 3 days early,

  • "Unfortunately we found the cottage very tired and dirty with a strong smell of damp issues that contaminated all clothing."

Extreme trouble sleeping due to being unaware of heating tubes that were switched on and very hot, hidden behind furniture and beds. Black mould all over bathroom and most skirting. Loud water pressure noises from boiler. Serious electrical issues with the amount of plugs in two extension leads then into a single wall socket. The kitchen window was screwed shut so no ventilation there. The double bed, is actually a queen size at 4ft wide. Good location and looks fair from the outside but there are many many faults.

We were very disappointed to read this review after receiving no concerns from the guest during their stay and many lovely reviews from other previous guests. During two conversations there was no mention of any of the above concerns. We explained that it was Sykes' pricing structure and obviously with the climate things had increased during the last two years. If the guest was not happy with the increase in price he could of chosen an alternative property. The cottage was built in the 1900s and is an old railway mans cottage, it is cleaned thoroughly and checked afterwards every week and the cleanliness has never been an issue. The week that these guests stayed was at during the height of this summers heatwave and they were more than welcome to have turned the little heaters off, no query was made about this during the week. Fans were available on request. The heating tubes are checked, managed and tested and are not hot to the touch at all - they are in no way hidden but are not placed in the 'middle' of the room for obvious reasons. The same goes for the plugs you refer to in the lounge. Property Owner

There's no fan in the bathroom and no functioning heated towel rail, leaving it all wet. There needs to be a folder with instructions on use of heating, oven, microwave, TV etc as found elsewhere. Beach access is more accurately stated as 200 yards, with the excellent Coppet hall beach about 300 yards away.

  • "The cottage is ideally situated along the strand just past the dog groomers on the left hand side."

There was a lovely surprise of a welcome pack when we opened the door and stepped into the kitchen. However, we found some issues with the property once we had got settled. The first one was the temperature gauge on the cooker came off in your hand, it was reported and a gentleman did come to have a look but it was not fixed during our stay. The second one was the WIFI did not work, again this was reported and fixed by lunchtime the following day. The shower door does not have a rubber seal at the bottom so the water goes all over the floor if you are not careful, we had to put an extra towel down next to the bathmat. Also, the bathroom cabinet has been placed to high so unless you are 5'11 and over you will not be able to see into the mirror. Also, there were lamps that were there to be used but no power points to plug them into. And finally there was an unusual aroma within the property which can only be described as a musty damp smell, that made its way into our clothes, bags and any food that had to be left out on the side, i.e packets and cereal boxes as there is no cupboard to put them in. We have had difficulty in getting rid of the smell in some of our belongings. All in all we did not enjoy our stay in Smugglers Cottage and we certainly feel like we didn't get value for money.
