  • "Glenfiglas Dam Cottage is in the perfect location, near to some amazing walks and ideal if you have a dog."

The cottage itself has everything you need, the spacious lounge kitchen and wood burning stove are perfect and the baby gate at the top of the stairs was a handy touch! We had a fantastic holiday and while we had a few issues when we first arrived Mae was extremely reactive and was in touch immediately and helped us out very quickly. I'd recommend this for a great getaway from everything and we'd love to return. Also lovely cafes and bakeries in callendar so definitely worth a trip.

  • "We had a lovely holiday."

The cottage felt like a home from home. Great location to explore the Trossachs. Greatly appreciated the welcome pack of fruit and cake. Our 2 dogs had a great time and loved the treats from the neighbours. The 3 drawer freezer was very useful, and it is easy to get online shopping delivered. The bannister on the stairs needs to be repaired and felt unsafe. The TV does have freesat and does have an hdmi port if you want to connect your own DVD player. The WIFI is limited, but you can make online bookings and use WhatsApp although sending photos is almost impossible.

  • "This was our second visit to Glen Finglas and the location was as magical as before."

The cottage is cosy and comfortable, and we particularly appreciated the fact that the heating had been upgraded since our last visit - very useful in a wet couple of weeks! Some of the fittings are a little worn and would benefit from a refresh, but overall it's a lovely place to stay and a perfect setting for walking, cycling or just enjoying the wildlife (red squirrels were frequent visitors).

  • "The cottage is a small semi-detached cottage at the top of a private road leading to the dam."

Because of the remote location there is no mobile phone service and the internet connection seemed somewhat sluggish.Bear this in mind if you depend on these services when on holiday. The parking space at the front of the cottage is very small but you can park up near the dam. The path from the back door was partially blocked by an old water pump and other items of scrap metal which we had to walk around. I really don't see why this should have been left lying around.

  • "What a great place to stay."

It is so beautifully secluded in nature. Had a great time with the family, total 5 people, three children 13, 9 and 8 years. In addition to great walks in the area, it is also a great base to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Fort William, among others. Really super, simple house, but wonderful to relax. From the house you can immediately start walking. In terms of accessories of the house it is well cared for, the necessary is there. Internet connection is not great, but a place like Brig O' Turk or Aberfoyle provides you with a good 4G connection.

Cottage is well maintained and equipped and located (quite remotely) in beautiful surroundings. Previous guests apparently didn’t care too much about properly cleaning pans and utensils before storing them in the kitchen cabinets, but other than that the cottage was very clean. Very friendly and helpful owners who had provided flowers, fruit and pastries as a welcome. We highly recommend this place and will definitely consider returning when visiting Scotland again.

The surroundings are gorgeous and we were lucky with the weather, so we were out every day on the hills or beside the lochs, and the cottage was a cosy and comfortable place to relax after a day's walking or cycling. The owners were helpful and friendly and we really appreciated the flowers and cakes on our arrival.

Thank you for the lovely feedback. We are so glad you had a wonderful time at the cottage and managed to get out in the hills and lochs everyday. Looking forward to welcoming you back again next year! Property Owner

  • "Pros- ideal location for getting out walking."

House has everything you need. Lovely outlook from dining room table. Feels safe to stay there. Cons- bit dated however didn’t spoil stay. Wee bit smelly when we arrived. Could do with fresh Lino on the bathroom. Stair blinds are very dirty. Biggest con for us and this is for anyone bringing their dogs. We had a vision of sitting out in the garden with the dogs just wandering enjoying all the woodland scents- This meant we could not sit outside and enjoy the good weather. One time we left them in the house and sat outside but after 10 mins the lady came out and started pottering about the grass they own right outside the house so the dogs saw her and started barking so we had to go in, so from that respect it did spoil things a bit. I just want dog owners to be aware of that. Overall though we had a really nice week as we just got the dogs out early and spent the day elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed your holiday and the beautiful location. We were sorry to hear you found it difficult not having a fenced garden. Unfortunately due to the rural setting of the house it would be extremely difficult to fence the garden with much of it blending into woodland and also without blocking the stunning views around. The parking spaces are very tight, if you’ve got just one car that’s not a problem, but two are very difficult to manoeuvre in. However you can park a little bit up the road. Some really nice walks right on the doorstep. It was our dogs first holiday away from home and he had a lovely time. I wish I knew there was a freezer as I feed my dog raw but had to switch to something else as the description didn’t say there was a freezer. Other than that we had an amazing stay!

The gifts of cake, fruit and flowers provided by the owner were a wonderful surprise on arrival and the welcome booklet was very helpful. Situated on the edge of Glen Finglas Dam the surrounding scenery is stunning and the numerous woodland walks in the area are well worth the effort. The back yard had been dug up.I suspect a problem with the drains, leaving a considerable hole which was covered with a piece of plywood this was very dangerous.

Thank you for your comments. The cottage is set in a magnificent rural setting hence why there is no fenced garden which allows guests to get closer to nature. After previous feedback, we can now confirm that a new water system has been installed. We were pleased with your good scores and glad we 'met expectations' despite the above comments. The first morning we had goldfinches in the bushes outside! We had red squirrels, deer, an array of birds, with sightings of golden and sea eagles. Thiese exceeded my expectations. The cottage itself, though a little dated decor-wise was so comfortable and had everything to make it a perfect holiday. The log burner was perfect for the chilly nights, the kitchen huge and had everything for cooking a large meal from scratch. There's a freezer and washing machine too. The neighbours were lovely and very helpful. I'd definately love to go back to Glen Finglas Reservoir Cottage. A great place to explore the beautiful Trossachs.

Excellent facilities. Many walks of different levels of ability nearby. It’s better to set sat nav to Callander Village and from there to come to the cottage. Only criticism was that they had no brush or mop or hoover to facilitate cleaning of the place before departure. The local neighbour lent a broom. There was not even on roll of toilet paper. Thank goodness we brought some. Thanks for leaving loads of cleaning products and wipes. That was really appreciated.

Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted to hear you had such a lovely stay with us. In regards to the cleaning facilities, we do keep them all in the cupboard in the twin bedroom. We will of course update our welcome pack to explain this going forward. Also we would like to apologise about there being no toilet roll, this was a mistake made by the housekeeper as we do usually leave a couple of rolls and again we are sorry for this. We really do hope to see you again at Glenfinglas Dam Cottage. Regards. Property Owner

The dam and Glenfinglas reservoir are absolutely beautiful, and the location feels tucked away from everyone, yet it is convenient for Callander and lots of walks in the area. The house is comfortable and has everything you need, though the kitchen is maybe a little dated. It was lovely to get a welcome pack for the dog (including a dog towel, which was much needed after the dog's regular swims!). The landlady was helpful and responded quickly to emails. About the location

CALLANDER

Stirling 14 miles, Loch Lomond 30 miles, Perth 37 miles.

The popular tourist town of Callander, in the Stirling region of Scotland, sits on the River Teith and is known as the Gateway to the Highlands. Located on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and surrounded by beautiful scenery, Callander has been a favourite stopping point for tourists on their way to the Highlands for over 150 years. There is evidence of a settlement here reaching as far back as the Neolithic period, and to demonstrate this, a little way east of the town is Scotland’s largest chambered cairn, along with several Iron Age forts to the west. A disciple of Columba of Iona, Saint Kessog preached in this area in the 6th century and there is a knoll, Tom na Chessaig or Hill of Kessog, named in his honour, set near the River Teith. The town today is brimming with shops, bars, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets, providing plenty of amenities. There are many walks and cycle paths around the town as well as the many lochs and hills of the nearby National Park. Callander is within easy reach of Stirling and Perth, and even Glasgow and Edinburgh can be found for a pleasant day trip either by car or train from Stirling.

Please note: No stag or hen parties or similar.
