  • "Sadly for the first time in over 30 years of staying in holiday cottages I am making a very negative response."

The cottage was so unwelcoming, apart from the awful colour it was painted, the tiny garden had large refuse bin & a pathway that had never been swept & windows that looked like they had never been cleaned outside for months. First impressions! Inside I know that it's a listed building but it was so tired looking, the lounge needs a revamp of furniture, curtains & paint job. The kitchen area was fine and there was all we needed. The shower was good and well planned in the small space but it just felt so unloved. Also it's the first cottage we have been in that there wasn't a little welcome pack, which we have always thought a nice touch. We were very lucky with the weather but the back garden was so untidy and bare & not relaxing chairs to sit on, it really spoilt it for us. We actually felt so uncomfortable in it, probably made worse that the property next door was a historical custom house, beautifully kept that everyone stopped to admire it that we left a day early as we felt so uncomfortable in it. To make matters worse when I booked it whish was with a sister company of yours, I somehow ending making the booking for September 2025 by mistake, you couldn't understand how it could have happened because of the days the booking was made but you rearranged it & didn't charge for doing so but it still cost me an extra £80 more than it should have done. So it's a definite no return for us.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay at Rosemary Cottage, I'm also sorry you didn't like the colour it's painted but feel that's a personal preference. The bins like most other houses in Aldeburgh are positioned at the front to allow for refuse collection and the windows are cleaned every 6 weeks but being a seaside town, with salt and seagulls, it's not always easy to keep on top of. The interior of the cottage was painted 18 months in a beautiful Farrow & Ball colour and new curtains and blinds throughout so again I'm sorry you don't' like our taste. I will agree the sofa needs replacing which is happening soon. The garden is well kept but we do have apples and olive leaves dropping and we have a lovely Summer house with cushions etc. We are sorry you didn't feel it wasn't admired as much as the custom house next door but I'm sure you'll agree it's different type of house and unsual architecture with steps which always draws attention from passers by. We took the decision last year not to provide a welcome pack due to it always being left or unwanted due to varying allergies! Property Owner

  • "What a lovely little cottage."

We had such a relaxing stay. And we really enjoyed the garden and summerhouse. Just a couple of minor things to feedback. In the welcome pack it states no use of candles, yet every room had them, so I would suggest removing them as I’m sure this is in fire risk assessment. ( not that we used them :) ). We hope to return very soon. Many Thanks Julie and Shane and Masha the dog

  • "A delightful little cottage in a lovely town."

The cottage was perfect for the two of us along with our dog, in a fantastic location at the end of, but right on, the High Street. The living room is cosy and the kitchen is very well equipped. There is not much hanging space in the bedroom, but the chest of drawers was more than enough for us to store our clothes, and the bed was very comfy. The enclosed back garden was not only a delight for the dog, the patio table and chairs have been perfectly positioned to catch the sun most of the day and the summerhouse was a lovely spot for breakfast. The only comment is that the listing description and the info folder in the property both need updating slightly - the TV does not seem to have a built-in CD/DVD player, and the info folder suggests making use of a vacuum cleaner which we couldn't find. All in all, though, a fabulous stay in delightful cottage to which we would definitely consider returning.

No negatives - only advisory to others - 1) turn front door key to the right (bit counter intuitive) 2) no washing machine we could find so take hand wash if you want to wash clothes 3) we couldnt find a garden tap to hose the dog down - owner maybe able to advise where that is, thankfully we had our muddaddy with us.

  • "A cosy comfortable cottage but needs a little TLC, eg."

Scruffy front garden, summerhouse doors don't close, sink and shower in wetroom slow to drain. (You really do need flipflops as you are standing in water and its slippery). No complimentary tea bags, coffee, milk etc. Very usual, never had this in any cottage we have ever rented. Overall a nice cottage in a very good location.

The cottage itself is well-equipped and also has excellent WiFi connectivity. We would highly recommend and look forward to staying again in the near future.

It’s like a little tardis, there was plenty of room for us and our dog. Beautifully furnished and lovely and clean. We slept like logs on the comfy bed. Thank you - we will be back!

  • "I was very comfortable in this historic and quirky, beautifully decorated cottage."

The ingenious, tiny wetroom bathroom was perfect for 1 or 2 people. A heater thoughtfully provided for the quiet, well-equipped if chilly kitchen and a coffee pod machine as well as jar of instant coffee available for caffeine fixes (no cafetiere). The bed was glorious; firm mattress, plenty of pillows. Great WiFi and an Amazon firestick makes a wide range of TV shows available, which again was thoughtful. All linens and surfaces spotless, as much hot water and heating as I could want. Lovely little garden. Fresh flowers a very thoughtful touch.

  • "In overall need of general maintenance inside & out!"

Need some TLC. Main TV outdated with minimal channels. TV in bedroom unusable as no Ariel cable! Garden front & rear unkept. No welcome bottle of wine - something we have always had with every booking for over 20 years now! Owner needs to invest in the property.

Thank you for your feedback, we are regularly investing in the property to ensure its comfortable and enjoyable for or guests. The TV downstairs is something we are planning to upgrade in the very near future, the upstairs TV does not have an aerial connection but it does have a firestick so you can log in and stream movies and shows. I do hope you still enjoyed your time at the cottage and hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "A return visit and we love the new oven/cooker - and new bits in the house - comfy touches."

Lots of cooking, with fresh fish from the market + the huts + meat from the butchers. Do visit the bookshops. Ice cream by the boating pond is a very good thing. Brudenell to Thorpeness and back (nice for a 5k run).

  • "The cottage’s outside appearance is shabby to say the least and is undoubtedly the most run down in the street."

Inside the settee was scruffy and very uncomfortable to sit on. The central heating didn’t come on one evening. The shower didn’t work and I had to call your colleague to arrange for a plumber to come out. He took one look at the shower and said it couldn’t be mended as it was so old. He then found there was an airlock and thankfully it worked. The whole of the shower and toilet area was covered in water as it is a wet room but the water didn’t drain quickly and the floor was very slippery and a risk in terms of falling. There was a set of keys in the back door lock on the outside and so had we not seen them there was a risk of someone accessing the property. The sink in the bathroom has a glass shelf above it which means you can’t rinse your face without hitting the glass. The general state of cleanliness was dirty and uncared for. We got the clear impression that no one cares for this cottage nor the people who rent it. In other cottages we have rented through other agencies there was a welcome bottle of wine but not here. The Welcome file was underneath a guestbook under the television - it should have been out on clear display. The television downstairs was not properly tuned and so the speech was out of sync. The TV in the bedroom did not work as it had no aerial lead. There was nothing in the Welcome pack about the property’s wi fi and password. The shower curtain was mouldy at the bottom a fact pointed out by previous guests but not sorted out. Generally speaking this is a shoddy cottage which is not worth the money we paid. We cut short our stay and went home on the Friday rather than the Saturday. Clearly the owner wants to make money without any investment. We would appreciate some recompense in recognition of this poor rental experience.

Thank you for leaving your feedback following your stay. We are sorry that you were not happy with the property. We take all guest feedback on board and will always take action to rectify anything that requires it. The TV upstairs was not an advertised feature at the time of booking as this was new, we are unable to have an aerial connection for this TV however have supplied a fire stick so you can stream your favourite movies. We removed the shelf in the bathroom as we agreed it was not practical. I do hope that despite your dissatisfaction with the cottage, that you enjoyed your time spent in Aldeburgh and all it has to offer. Property Owner

  • "Why does it state there is parking for one car when there is no parking at all."

Unable to access wi fi, BT state it has been suspended due to unpaid bill, I don't think this is good enough and think others considering renting this cottage should be aware. Although chilly the week I stayed that kitchen is colder than the arctic, surely something could be done other than the electric radiator that makes little or no difference. I would never stay again or recommend the cottage to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am unsure where you may have seen parking for one car, being a cottage on Aldeburgh High Street, this is not the case and we dont advertise parking nor have we, however we are sorry for any confusion. There was a fault on BT's end with the wifi which was out of our control until we were made aware. We added the heater to the kitchen to boost the temperature in there, this usually does the trick. We are sorry to hear you will not be returning but would like to assure you we take guest comfort very seriously and take on board all comments to ensure our guests have a wonderful holiday. • "The front and back doors both leach heat, the front is far worse, but there is a terrible draft from both."

the bathroom sink is impossible to use as there is a glass shelf positioned above it which is far too close to allow access other than to wash your hands, the shower doesn't drain effectively meaning water nearly floods into the kitchen when used, the dishwasher door sticks badly on the kick plate panel underneath it which is causing the front of the dishwasher door to splinter, there is a slat missing from the front gate, it looks to have come lose and has been placed in the front garden space. The front garden space is very untidy, it needs a good clean-up/sweep, the mattress is very hard, and uncomfortable.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The cottage is very old and we like to keep as many features original and in keeping with the property so the doors are wooden, we have since upgraded the curtains at the front and back door to prevent heat escaping and also draft excluders to help this too. We have removed the shelf above the sink as we agree it made it abit tricky so have placed new shelves in the corner. The bathroom is a wetroom so no shower tray is possible but this should not have leaked in to the kitchen, this has not happened since but we will keep an eye so thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate that some like a softer mattress than others, we are sorry this was not to your liking but we do hope to welcome you back in the future so you can see the updates we have made to the cottage. This is our second time in Aldeburgh and loved it. Try the Wentworth for afternoon teas. All 3 pubs vert different and all worth spending time in. Locals seem to prefer The White Hart which is handy for this place!
