  • "St Kilda was a fantastic base for North Uist, with all the other isles easily accessible."

The kitchen and upstairs were great and we spent many an evening watching all the amazing birdlife right from the kitchen table! It should be noted dogs aren’t allowed upstairs, but our two were so exhausted from all the beach runs that the kitchen was their haven for a nap anyway. The spa bath was so welcome after long days of exploring, and even then we could see hen harrier, shorted eared owl, lapwing, geese and even a golden eagle right from the house. Hosta beach is a very short drive away and Balranald reserve IS the back garden - amazing!! Contact with the owner was great and we had a lovely chat with the gardener too. Thank you for a lovely holiday, we hope to be back one day!!

I’m pleased you had a good holiday and got a great Uist experience. Property Owner

  • "We had lovely week staying at St."

Kilda. The location is fantastic for all the best best beaches on North Uist. Hosta beach (just over a mile away) is beautiful, wild and remote! There is lots of wildlife to see in the area-birds and sealife. The cottage is warm, comfortable and homely. it is really well equipped, We were warm and comfortable during some very stormy weather last week. Our kids loved the large upstairs room for star gazing, watching films and boardgames. St. Kilda has clearly been in the owners family for a long time and is well loved. There are no bi-fold doors or designer features but that makes it in this beautiful landscape.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at St Kilda, a perfect base for exploring the area, visiting a number of amazing beaches, and for relaxing in the large dining kitchen or lounge watching the extensive bird life."

Very spacious and well equipped house with great views and a large garden for our dog. The upstairs lounge area was super for relaxing after days out and the spa bath was also much appreciated. A problem with the downstairs shower was rectified quickly by the homeowner.

  • "Extremely disappointed!"

House very run down & hugely overpriced. Every room needs fresh decor, bedding mismatched, faded & bobbling. Hot water temperamental regularly going cold mid shower. Shower head fell from ceiling during our stay. We booked this property because I’m on waiting list for a hip replacement but we had no shower downstairs for 2nd week & the toilet seat was loose. Gas leak in kitchen - pipe had to be replaced by engineer during our stay. Kitchen table/chairs unsteady. One chair collapsed beneath my son. Broken step at back door. Roof guttering down & lying in garden. No drawers in twin room, broken drawers in double room. Spice rack in kitchen dates back to 2011 - average Use by date for spices is 2014. No cupboard space in kitchen. Wine glasses full of dust. Dog hair everywhere including cutlery drawer & upstairs. Metal electricity point in kitchen does not comply with today’s regs. No PAT testing. I have taken photographs of all points mentioned.

Wear and tear on a holiday cottage is to be expected, however a shower head that ramdomly fell off looks like it was broken by the guests. Need I say more.... Property Owner

  • "Great place, beautiful location and fabulous stay."

The space is great and the comfort and set up is excellent. Everything was as described. There are a couple of rings and the lower oven does not work and one of the chairs was damaged but that is more for information. We had a great week.

We grew to love it more and more each day

  • "We had an enjoyable holiday in a lovely area."

The house was fine and almost everything was pretty much as described. The back rings on the cooker didn't light reliably, which was a nuisance since there was a toddler in the house and we'd rather have used the back rings. It was a surprise to find that the heating was operating on a fixed cycle. I understand the reason but if it had been any warmer outside, it would have become uncomfortably hot. The biggest complaint I would make is that the location shown on the map is very misleading. When I booked the house I believed it was in the settlement very close to the beaches. It is in fact much further away, just off the main road and about a 20 minute walk. While I accept that the verbal description makes no claim about being very close to the beach, and I recognise that Google Maps shows the postcode as being in the settlement, I think it is wrong to show a map location that is completely inaccurate. What Three Words location: refreshed.nickname.releasing is where the house actually is.

  • "Good location and great views."

Fishing in the nearby Loch was a nice addition and hearing corn crakes and seeing short eared owls and hen harriers from the house was great. The kids enjoyed the upstairs lounge and the kitchen is very well equipped and bigger than the photos imply. All the equipment worked although the downstairs telly was difficult to fathom. For the price we would have expected the cottage and furniture to be in better condition. Many of the rooms are in need or redecoration with peeling wallpaper and damp patches. The twin room had mould in the draws which got on the clothes .We had a great week but felt it was overpriced for the condition of the property.

The housekeeper extremely kind and helpful when we had a problem.

This feedback is appreciated. We endeavour to make sure your holiday is a holiday and that you have peace-of-mind as regards the standard of cleanliness. The cottage has been upgraded with some new furniture for the 2022 season and we look forward to welcoming you back. • "The cottage was in a lovely location and well equipped."

Unfortunately it wasn’t very clean and considering the current climate when you expect even higher standards it is disappointing to find a filthy oven and having to wash a lot of the mugs, cutlery and plates due to dubious cleanliness. There was also lots of dust, and the mattresses were in need of renewing. I would also expect mattress covers on beds that are used regularly by different people. That said we had a great stay on a beautiful island just probably won’t be returning to that cottage.

We have a new Housekeeper and have replaced all worn items. Property Owner

Great location to go to beaches, go birdwatching, and many of the other things to do on the islands. St. Kilda can be seen from the cottage on clear days and sunsets are great!

St-Kilda is 38 miles West of the Kitchen window. As you know, the beaches are white coral sand, and the Atlantic sunsets are inspirational. Property Owner
