  • "A fabulous cottage that was very comfortable and well-equipped."

The Wifi was very unreliable but we survived! We will definitely return

Thank you so much for your feedback. I’m afraid it’s a general thing in all the cottages in the area that the Wi-Fi drops out occasionally but on the plus side it does wonders for your board gaming skills :) Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon! Property Owner

  • "With a few tweaks and care the cottage could be improved There was no hand wash in kitchen or bathrooms, no dishwasher tablets, no washing up liquid, -only 1/2inch left in bottle,- no bin liners, chipped crockery, coffee mugs were badly stained."

I soaked them in Steredant tablets before I could use them. the oven, hob and sinks required a good clean, as did the fridge and the broken shelf replaced The shower base was very slippy and nothing to clean it with.. used a small hand towel to stand on when showering. The stairs were very steep and narrow. I was very surprised that there was no smoke alarm, I understood it was a legal requirement in all holiday cottages. No mention of the steps up to the front door, off road parking was mentioned, but it was very tricky parking in the space available. The cottage is not dog friendly, Our JR escaped under the gate on arrival. very steep and rocky path up to small piece of grass available. There was no mention of the steep road up or down to the cottage, very narrow road with cars parked everywhere, Positives.. heating very efficient and comfortable bed. I suggest that the owners and Sykes are honest with us and say exactly what to expect at a holiday cottage. this the first time I have booked with Skyes and I was very disappointed with this cottage. For the amount of money we paid I expect better standards. I have been using holiday cottages for the past 15 years and am normally very happy with the cottages we have used in the past. Thank you.

Thank you for your detailed feedback, although it sounds like your stay was more of an adventure than a relaxing getaway! We genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we’re already rolling up our sleeves to make some changes. First off, apologies for the cleanliness issues and the lack of essentials like hand wash and bin liners. We promise we’re not trying to test anyone’s survival skills, and we’ll make sure future guests aren’t caught short like this again. As for the chipped crockery and stained mugs, we’ll be giving those a swift retirement. Regarding the steep stairs and narrow roads, whilst we can’t flatten hills or widen ancient paths, we’ll do a better job of giving our guests the heads-up. With regards to the rocky path, it’s just following the land’s natural character since the property is on a hill. We’ll make sure this is clear in our descriptions next time. We hear your thoughts about the dog escape; it sounds like your JR is quite the little Houdini! We’ll look into securing the gate better, so no more unplanned adventures. For parking, we understand it was tricky. There is a larger parking space available, as described in the cottage details on Sykes Cottages. It just required a quick phone call, and we could’ve directed you to it. If you ever encounter any issues during your stay, please don’t hesitate to call us. We’re here to help and will do our best to make things right. Thank you again for your feedback. We’re committed to turning these hiccups into improvements for future guests! Property Owner

It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The beds were very comfortable and having 2 lovely bathrooms was a real luxury. There are lots of lovely walks straight from the door so we didn’t even need to use the car very much. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. The owners were quick to respond when we had a minor plumbing problem which was really helpful.

  • "Simply superb holiday cottage located in a surprisingly quiet corner of the village."

Accomodation spotlessly clean with all you require for a break from the norm (although another baking tray would be helpful for some) Heating controllable and certainly adequate for us. If you are a keen walker - there is a fantastic array of footpaths directly from the door. We tried as many as we could fit in - visit every scrap of open access and you won't be disappointed - embrace the mud though as it is everywhere in March. Parking - not suitable for anything bigger than a SWB VW Transporter. It was a tight fit and this wasn't an issue as our van didn't need to move all week. Pubs - if you are a fan of decent beer look no further than the excellent Bay Horse in the village. We tried a few and this was the best by far. A real locals pub - no food that we witnessed on our several visits there. Highly recommended!

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. The baking tray is noted and on its way. If you ever visit again we have recently acquired a bigger parking space which is about 30 yds from the cottage, a little walk I know but handy if you have a large vehicle. I will let Sykes know Property Owner

Everything you need for a great stay including a week’s supply of firewood, most generous! Amazing views from the cottage, especially when covered in snow and great walks on the doorstep too. An easy walk to Haworth which is very quaint with lovely shops and pubs. Great meals and a friendly welcome at The Fleece. Can’t fault Box Tree Cottage , but can’t believe The Lamb and The Dog and Gun do not allow dogs especially as this is perfect dog walking country . Friendly welcome at The Bay Horse in the village which does music and quiz nights. A great stay all round . Thank you Jenny

  • "Our second stay at this lovely property, Box Cottage is set in the perfect location of Oxenhope, with views of the hills from bedroom windows."

In good weather, we used the patio table at the front. (There is no back garden). Excellent dining pub up on the moor a 5 minute drive away, or you can walk to another for a drink just around the corner. 7 mile drive to Hebden Bridge or only 2 to Haworth, the cottage couldn't be better placed in this area. A great local shop just a 10 minute walk away (quite a steep hill on return) or slightly further to see the vintage railway station. At the cottage itself, the beds and bedlinen are superbly comfortable with a real luxury feel. Two bathrooms are a bonus. Wifi was reliable. TV adequate. Sofa not particularly comfortable but armchairs are fine. Our only slight quibble this time was that we needed to quickly buy £10 worth of basic household items for the kitchen as they weren't anywhere to be found, but this may have been an oversight, as it hadn't happened on our previous trip. The local shop has everything you might need, plus a great fresh bakery. We hope to return.

Thank you so much for your informative feedback. Please accept my apologies as of course there should be basic household items in the property. I have spoken to the cleaning company about this and I will reimburse you for your inconvenience. I look forward to welcoming you again to Box Tree at some time in the future. Well presented clean heating was left on really lovely. Loo seats need repairing very wobbly No enclosed garden this property allows dogs it’s not dog friendly. Front garden can’t let you dog out and no back garden at all. Sykes state …. No food to be left, nothing in the dishwasher or fridge so we arrived and all 3 had something in? Disappointing given the long list of what you must do when your there and before you leave. Sadly we had to leave early but highly recommended just don’t take a dog it will ruin your holiday

Thank you for your useful feedback. In response the loo seat has been tightened. During January 2022 chicken wire is being installed along the bottom rungs of the outer fencing to make the front and back outside space more secure for dogs. The wine in the fridge and the Christmas food hamper were left for you as a complementary gift for the festive season Sykes suggest a 'to do' list on leaving to try and minimalise any covid impact but it's not set in stone as we clean thoroughly on check out. Haworth 2 miles; Hebden Bridge 6 miles; Skipton 14 miles.

The small village of Oxenhope lies amid wonderful scenery, and offers the chance to take advantage of the multitude of walks in the area. The village, with its shops, churches and pubs, is home to the terminus for the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, an authentic steam railway brought to prominence in the film The Railway Children, which runs on a regular basis to Haworth and on down to Keighley. The area abounds with popular places to visit; the cobbled streets of Haworth, the Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the Museum of Rail. The market town of Skipton, known as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is a short drive away, and also within reach are elegant Harrogate and vibrant Leeds.
