  • "We loved our stay in the Hayloft."

Alan (the proprietor) is a really friendly man and he made us feel very welcome. He showed us around the accomodation and how to work the heating and hot water system. There is a large area of off-street parking and an outside area for sitting out on a nice day/evening. The accomodation has a two-seater sofa and an armchair, a small but well stocked galley kitchen (which we made use of most evenings) and a dining area all in the main reception room. There is a TV with a wide array of channels including Netflix, Prime and Youtube, as well as wireless internet - which you would need as the village has no/very little mobile network coverage. Thre is also a wood-burner and a large stock of logs, for those chilly evenings (which we didn't use on this visit). The double bedroom is a good size and very comfortable, and the on-suite bathroom is a large size. If you want a getaway location where no-one can get in touch with you, this is the place. The stream that runs along side the property is probably the loudest sound in the village - unless you count the sheep which roam everywhere. If you go out in the evening to the pub in the village, you will need a torch as there are no streetlights and it gets very dark. We have already decided that we plan to stay in the Hayloft again, as there were quite a number of English Heritage sights in the area, that we didn't get a chance to visit this time

  • "We had a lovely stay and didn’t want to leave."

The area is beautiful and the local pub is a hidden gem. We love Yorkshire and are looking to retire there and visit different areas to find our perfect location. Lastingham ticked all the boxes and we are looking forward to visiting again next year. Unfortunately we won’t be staying at The Hayloft as although it was beautiful and has everything you need, I ended up stupidly leaving things behind. I text the owner a couple of times but have had no reply. Really disappointing. I would never leave a bad review and this is a good review, just make sure you don’t leave anything behind

Alan greeted us and showed us the facilities and kindly left us a bottle of wine. Lastingham is a gem, the Church is a must to visit as well as the Blacksmiths Arms a 2 minute walk away from where we were staying. The food was excellent especially the Steak & Ale pie. Already thinking about another visit next year. Thank you for a great holiday hope to see you again. June & Andy

The WiFi wasn't working when we arrived and due to the location there's no phone signal so the WiFi is quite important. Alan sorted it out straight away for us and was a great host. Waking up to hearing the sounds of nature including the little stream next to the loft is something I'm already missing so we will definitely be returning.

  • "The Hayloft (Ref."

1571) Lastingham, North York Moors We stayed at the Hayloft from 1st to 08th September, 2023, It was a very lovely place to stay, but we have mixed feelings about the accommodation!!!! Very similar to a review back in September 2021 {“" The Hayloft " Very friendly reception and helpful owner Very cosy cottage for two, in a good location. If upgrading is considered, a shower unit instead of over the bath, would be more attractive””} Our problem (a couple aged late 60s) with the shower is that it is over a Metal curved bottom Bath, which made it very very awkward to get into and out from!!!! also it was very very awkward to stand on the curved bottom, which made it very very uncomfortable to use, as we both had to support ourselves with a hand on the wall when we moved in the shower. The old Mira shower unit is adequate!!! But could be updated. To use as a bath !! the hot water is so slow it would take a very long time to fill!! Due to the water header tank (header tank combined with the hot water cylinder) is only being about 1 metre above hot water tap!!!!! We did not try to have a bath as we knew it would have taken ages to fill it. Other disappointments were the 2 large Red Cushions that I could smell and see that many other people had used them. And all 5 roof blinds need to be replaced as they are tatted and torn!!! One was held together with Gaffer tape, which I read on another review. Apart from the above we had a lovely week holiday here. Lastingham is a lovely quiet village with a very good pub to eat in, the moors and the surrounding countryside is amazing, Thornton Le Dale is a beautiful village as many of the other villages. It was easy to get to the coast and into York for a day on the park and ride. I found Alan very pleasant to chat too, and with updating the above, he could make the Hayloft totally amazing place to stay in. Many thanks Alan from Martyn and Susan. Ps. A photo of the bathroom would be a good idea on your ad.

  • "The accommodation was lovely and homely."

Some of the blinds had seen better days as they were held together with tape, and others could not be closed fully as they were worn out. The property was great for the two of us. We both had a wonderful stay, the owner was very accommodating.

The village pub is welcoming and the food is excellent. The owner, Alan is friendly and welcoming too. There is secure parking for ones vehicle which is well back from the lane and behind double wooden gates and up a driveway behind the Hayloft itself. The village is quiet and you can only hear the birds singing and the babbling beck when in the private garden. There is a combination oven/microwave which we used a handful of times which took a bit of getting used to but there are instructions in the property for that piece of equipment. On a personal note we could have done with having a firmer mattress. With the excellent weather we were blessed with we couldn't have wished for more for the price that we paid.

The owners made us feel very welcome, and were always on hand should we need anything. We found the property extremely clean and comfortable, and the layout worked very well. Car parking was safe and secure, and we particularly enjoyed having the use of a barbecue, and the outside area with its seating and the stream running by. There is no shortage of places of interest to visit in the area, and we found plenty of tearooms, cafes and pubs with outside seating areas, where we felt safe. The village inn, The Blacksmith's, is excellent in this respect. We would recommend The Hayloft with confidence to anyone who is seeking a get-away-from-it-all break, and we look forward to returning. Barbara and Graham Chappell

Was bigger inside than the photos suggest. Had everything we needed and the host Alan was on hand if we had any questions. The steps up to the property are quite steep so wouldn't be suitable for everyone, but were fine for us. Having a small garden to relax in was a plus point. Not that we spent a great deal of time there as there were lots of places to walk nearby. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking forward to a relaxing holiday in a beautiful holiday let.
