Barclodiad y Gawres
Barclodiad y Gawres, or The Giantess’s Apronful in English, gives a fascinating glimpse into the lives of our ancient ancestors. Within the tomb there are five stones etched with intricate patterns of zigzags and spirals, hinting at the significance of the site for the early inhabitants of Anglesey.
Barclodiad y Gawres is one of only two examples of such megalithic art in the UK, the other being at Bryn Celli Ddu just a few miles away.
The site was thought to be used for burials and rituals due the discovery of undisturbed cremated remains of two people in a side chamber.
Barclodiad y Gawres can only currently be viewed from the exterior.
This ancient gem is a must see when staying in North Wales…
