Belford’s historic Reading Room is home to a small, free museum and resource centre that is operated entirely by volunteers.
Belford, Northumberland
Discover exhibits about the men and women of Belford and how they lived their lives, and you can also sit at a listening post and hear the residents’ memories of their past lives.
The back of the hall houses a library and resource centre where researchers can consult family histories. Also included in the resource area is a screen that allows visitors to explore Belford’s heritage in more detail with interactive elements.
The Reading Room was established in 1854 by the Squire, John Dixon Atkinson Clark, with the goal of developing “good feeling between different members of the community”. The structure was considerably renovated after the First World War as part of a road-widening plan, and it is now the structure you see today.
