Brougham Castle

Brougham Castle

Brougham Castle is situated just a couple of miles outside of Penrith beside the crossing of the River Eamont. Built in the 13th century on the site of a Roman fort, the impressive ruins can be explored today.

The impressive keep still stands along with the double gatehouse and a complex of passages and spiral stairways, giving visitors an insight into life at the castle centuries earlier. From the top of the keep, you can take in panoramic views over the Eden Valley.

Tickets don’t need to be booked in advance, but they are available from the English Heritage website.
