Ewloe Castle, North Wales
Ewloe Castle

Ewloe Castle

Thought to be constructed by Llywelyn the Great of Wales in the 13th century, this castle features a D-shaped stone tower that’s typically Welsh in design. Despite the standard design, Ewloe is unlike most castles in Wales.

Sitting in a hollow, deep in the Wepre Park woodland, Ewloe is one of few castles not built high on a headland or hill. Little is known of the castle’s history and so the story behind its positioning remains a mystery.

Take a walk through the 160-acre Wepre Park where the castle lies around 30 minutes from the carpark. As you approach the castle, you’ll pass a stone-built bridge, a waterfall and red rock amongst plenty of stunning woodland vistas.

Be enchanted by history and nature at Ewloe Castle…
