Hovertravel
Hovertravel is a fantastic foot passenger ferry that takes passengers to Ryde from Southsea. It’s Britain’s only hovercraft company and it first began operation in 1965.
The initial plan for Hovertravel was to have its hovercraft run on a seasonal basis only, in order to provide holiday-goers with a unique summer experience. However, Hovertravel grew in popularity and now runs all year around.
Hovertravel’s hovercraft are able to float along the English Channel by trapping air between the bottom of the craft and the top of the waves. This is controlled by the special ‘hovercraft pilots’, who collectively have over 450 years of engineering and piloting experience.
The journey itself is fairly smooth and offers panoramic views of the ocean, south of England and the Isle of Wight.
The journey lasts approximately 10 minutes. The short time makes Hovertravel ideal for anyone wanting a day trip on the Isle of Wight whilst staying on the south coast and vice versa!
Enjoy a quick trip with seaviews by boarding Hovertravel’s hovercraft…
