Directions

  1. Following the first footpath signed from Kimmeridge Car Park, turn left onto the lane that leads west and follow the second footpath that crosses the fields, just beyond the hedge after the first signed footpath.
  2. Follow this towards Kimmeridge Coppice, just to the west of Kimmeridge village.
  3. As the path approaches the coppice, bear left, then take the second path on the right, heading past the church and into Kimmeridge.
  4. On the left as you pass the church, you will see a footpath leading uphill to the churchyard.
  5. Taking the footpath through the field, turn right at the top, crossing the stile and onto the road.
  6. From the quarry car park above Kimmeridge, walk a few yards back up the road, turn right before taking the track on the right, which runs above and behind the quarry.
  7. This track will lead you up over Smedmore Hill. Note: Ignore the first spur to the right, which comes to a dead-end just above the quarry.
  8. At the end of the track go through the gate onto the path beyond, carrying on in the same direction to the mound at the end of the ridge.
  9. Once you’ve reached the tumulus, turn back towards the way you came, and go to the stile, now on your left.
  10. Take the steep path from here towards the coast.
  11. Once you reach the waymarker on your right, cross the stile into the field, but stay to your left as you head towards the coast.
  12. Turn left over the next stile and follow the path through the field beyond to the South West Coast Path.
  13. On the Coast Path turn right, head past Rope Lake Head and Clavell’s Hard and on to Cuddle, and Hen’s Cliff.
  14. Go down the steps after the Clavell Tower and at the bottom you will come to Kimmeridge Bay.
  15. Turn right and go past the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve building, then turn left through the car park just afterwards to follow the path as it winds around the bay and emerges back in Kimmeridge Car Park.
