Mercer Art Gallery
Mercer Art Gallery rests within the 200-year-old Harrogate Promenade Rooms. You can find the lovely gallery near the Royal Pump Room Museum and the Valley Gardens.
It opened its doors to the public in 1991 and is actually named after Sidney Agnew Mercer. The artist lived in Yorkshire for most of his live and his sons donated £50,000 towards the gallery’s construction.
Many 19th and 20th-century masterpieces can be seen on a tour of the gallery. Famous names, such as William Powell Frith and Atkinson Grimshaw have their work on Mercer Art Gallery’s walls.
The Harrogate Open Exhibition also takes place here, where anybody can submit pieces of art. Sculptures, photographs, paintings and drawings from the public get displayed here.
Other temporary exhibitions take place here, too, so you can look forward to seeing something new on each visit! Mercer Art Gallery also offers a range of events, including artists giving talks about their work.
