Muncaster Fell

Are you after a beautiful hike that isn’t too strenuous? Come and explore Muncaster Fell!

The peak is a Marylin Hill sitting in the southwestern area of the national park, near Ravenglass. It is relatively small compared to other peaks, standing at 758 feet.

The walk up the hill begins at The Green, a station resting along the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. The path can be found at the end of the platform.

The trail will take you leftward, offering views of Eskdale, Birkby Fell and the Brantrake Crags. You’ll eventually end up hiking through a section of Bankend Wood until you reach Muncaster Head.

Here, the track widens into a forestry track. Follow this to begin the ascent of Muncaster Fell.

Continue along the ridge path until you reach Muncaster Fell’s summit. This part of the walk boasts amazing views of the River Esk, Irish Sea and surrounding countryside!

Take a moment to relish the sights before following one of the multiple paths down towards Eskdale Green. You’ll eventually reach Muncaster Head again; here you can retrace your steps back to the start.

Experience a wonderful hike up this Marilyn hill…
