Nantclwyd y Dre Historic House and Gardens
Take a trip through the seven ages of Nantclwyd y Dre, the oldest dated timbered townhouse in Wales. The house was originally built in 1435 and has since been added to, modernised, and upgraded by its inhabitants throughout the years.
Originally owned by a 13th-century weaver before becoming a lodge for judges and a girls’ school in the 19th century, Nantclwyd y Dre has been home to many influential people.
In 2007 the building became a museum and was lovingly restored to showcase changing fashions and give an insight into the lives of its former residents. Visitors can observe a colony of Lesser Horseshoe bats in the attic rooms via Bat Cam, participate in a quiz and use interactive media to learn more about the house and its inhabitants.
The gardens, where fruit and vegetables once grew to supply Ruthin Castle, have also been restored and are open to the public.
Be transported back in time with a visit to Nantclwyd y Dre Historic House and Gardens…
