Polruan Blockhouse

By the 1380s the Hundred Years War was turning against the English and so two blockhouses, one at Fowey and one at Polruan, were built. The structures had thick walls, internal gun positions and a small calibre cannon and was linked by a huge metal chain to the blockhouse in Fowey to stop enemy ships coming through.

Today the ruins at Polruan are mostly intact and can be seen by visitors to walking along the harbourside.
