RSPB Point of Ayr – Dee Estuary
Visiting Wales in the autumn or winter? RSPD Point of Ayr – Dee Estuary is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. At this time of year, thousands of birds roost over high tide.
The reserve is a maze of naturally formed coastal habitats with a sand and shingle beach, dunes and a salt marsh all supporting wildlife at different times of the year – so there’s plenty to see at other times of the year too.
Star species you can expect to see include curlew, oystercatcher, peregrine falcon, pintail and black-tailed godwit. The best way to catch a glimpse of the birds is to simply stroll through the reserve.
Finish your walk with a gentle stroll towards the beach, where you’ll find a whole host of seabirds as well as stunning views.
